1. OUTLINE
1.1 Outline
This device display and output true heading, magnetic heading, variation and deviation. True
heading is calculated with magnetic heading, variation and deviation.
For correction of variation, two functions are provided. One function is for automatically correcting
variation based upon position information and UTC information from the GPS Receiver (OP-
TION). The other function is for allowing the operator to manually enter and set correction data.
For correction of deviation, a function is provided for allowing the operator to manually enter and
set correction data.

This key applies setting values, move between screens,
check occurrence of failures, and stop the buzzer.
DOWN, UP keys
These keys select displays
and setting values.
MODE key
This key moves to the display
setup menu from the Normal
mode, and back to the Normal
mode from the any screens.
FAIL LED This LED blinks or lights when an error has occurred.
When the key is pressed with an error occurring, blinking of the LED stops and the

FAIL LED is not operation key. If you push strong, it maybe cause malfunction.
Do not pick Buzzer hole with a needle.

The screen hierarchy is broadly classified into four modes: Normal mode, Main Menu mode,
Selection mode, and Setup mode.

Automatic setting
To set “AUTO”, variation is automatically corrected using
the GPS signal.
To move to the Normal mode, press the MODE key.

To set “MAN”, the screen moves to manual correction entry.

Correction Example 1
The true heading is calculated as follows when the magnetic direction is 218.2°, deviation is 002.6° W’ly and vari-
ation is 004.7° E’ly:
True heading = magnetic direction + deviation + variation
=218.2 + (-002.6) +(+004.7)
=220.3
Accordingly, the true heading in this case becomes 220.3°.
When you press the key, the device judges the password.

Note
Pay sufficient attention when performing this correction. The pass-
word for this correction is “43”.
If the screen moves to “ALIGNMENT”, turn off the system using ALIGNMENT
switch on the INTERCONNECT UNIT. Present data are kept in the
memory.

Alignment correction is required only in specific instances, for
example, when the sensor is replaced on the rigging or spare
compass. Normally, there is no need to make this setting.

5. TROUBLESHOOTING
This section describes the details of errors displayed in the error information display, probable
causes and remedies.
Note
Errors relating to input signal from the GPS receiver are not detected in the following instances:
When setting the device with a GPS receiver not connected in the system specifications
When variation correction is set to manual correction entry even when a GPS receiver is
connected
Check the system specifications and setups.
