1.5. Installation Overlay

Enable Shared Folders in the “Virtual Machine Settings” of your VM, to have access from within the VM to
the location where you have downloaded the Overlay package (see §1.3).
Navigate from the Network “Shared Folders” or any drive-mapping that you have configured for it inside the
VM to the Overlay package download directory. The installation of the overlay is done in 3 steps (as a reboot
is required between the steps).
Remarks:
• In case you are re-using a VM where a previous version of the R&D Suite or Opcenter RDL
Overlay was already deployed, you will need to remove the old Overlay first by double-
clicking the Remove_Old_RnDSuite_OpcenterRDL_Overlays.bat and confirm to run it.
• After each reboot, a screen similar to the one below, may appear, telling the there is no
Overlay installed (yet). Please ignore this during execution of the Overlay installation steps.
You can simply close these windows.

Double-click on 1_InstallOpcenterRDL_Prerequisites.bat and confirm to run it.

- During the first few minutes of this installation step, the .NET Framework setup may popup some
confirmation dialogues that require your interaction.
Accept by marking the checkbox for the End User Agreement and click the Install button;
The setup may also ask to automatically close some programs for updating files. Click the
Yes button.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE Opcenter RDL 2204 Demo Overlay

You can start a new Opcenter RDL browser session now.

Use the Chrome shortcut “Welcome - Opcenter RDL” on the VM Desktop
Or
Browse with the Chrome browser to the URL https://siemensdc/OpcenterRDnL

At first connection to the Opcenter RDL application, you will need to authenticate with valid user. (E.g. user
“siemens” with password “pass@word1”)

Subsequently, the Opcenter RDL webpage will appear, and Chrome will probably propose to save the
password for the user “siemens”. It is advised at this stage to click the [Never] button, because it will make
switching between different users during the Demo scenario, more difficult.

Tip
Chrome allows to define multiple “Profiles” by using the “Manage people” option behind the small
button at the top right corner of the Chrome browser (see below screenshot). You could
for example add additional persons (profiles) for each of the users that play a role in the Demo
scenario. In that case you can save the password for each of the users siemens, siemens2, etc. in their
own Chrome profile environment. Once you have configured multiple Chrome profiles, you can
switch to a different user using that same icon at the top right corner.

Clicking the [Home] button will display the full Homepage, and a second dialogue for providing user
credentials will popup, because the Reporting shortcuts displayed in the Launchpad have a separate
connection that needs authentication. Also here, you can to authenticate with any valid user. (Usually the
same as in the previous logon. E.g. user “siemens” with password “pass@word1”)

1.8. Known issues

1.8.1. Planned Effective Date (PED) maintainer
During the execution of the Overlay scripts, a Windows Scheduled Task will be setup to run the R&D Suite
“Planned Effective Date (PED) maintainer” at 2:00 AM every day.
Because the first execution may have been triggered while there was no Opcenter RDL license installed yet,
and because later on, the demo machine may not be running at the time this “PED Maintainer” task is
scheduled, the Planned Effecive Dates may not have been updated as required. To address these potential
issues, we recommend to execute the following manual step.
Go to https://siemensdc/DemoDashboard and click the Trigger PED button

1.8.2. Java script error message

During execution of the demo scenarios, it may happen that you encounter a Java script error (log4javascript
popup). This was also observed during validation testing of previous demo Overlay versions. Unfortunately,
the circumstances for this error are not clear and could not be reproduced. Nevertheless, we did not discover
any functional impact, and we expect that it should not prevent you from continuing the demo scenario.

1.8.3. “No server license is available!” message

After startup of the Demo VM, it may happen that you get the error message “No server license is available!”
when accessing the application with the browser, while you did correctly install the required licenses. The
reason for this may be that the IIS Web application components were activated before the License Server was
able to get and make the licenses available.
In such case, start an “elevated” (Run as Administrator) Microsoft Windows command prompt (cmd), enter
iisreset followed by the <Return> key.
After this and refresh of your browser session, the error message should disappear, and you should get access
to the application.
