 As a fresher, I knew very little about data science but at the end of the program, I was
well-versed with all the industry-relevant tools and topics. It was the ideal and the
best way to learn data science. All the concepts were taught during this program with
hands-on training on topics like text mining, Hadoop, SQL etc. All the Faculty were

My resume was shortlisted by three companies- Monexo, Saksoft, and Merit. After a
f2f interview, I got a call from Saksoft for a case study test at their office followed by a
rapid-fire round. The data set that was given in the case study round was similar to
the classroom project that we did. So, I could do it very well. I got this offer even
before completing the program.

 The fact that I was able to bag an offer from a company of choice even before the

 When I told my family that I wanted to take up this program, they had no idea about it.
They knew about the IT courses like Java, so I explained to them the field and
opportunities in it and they supported me after that to pursue the course.

Pugazhendi I feel that the program had covered almost all the topics that were asked during the
Fresher interviews. The peer group was really good, we used to sit and discuss things. As we
had people from different backgrounds, it helped us to exchange what we knew and
learn together. Faculty were too good and they made it very simple for us to
understand the concepts. We had many companies coming in and we were groomed

 There was a lot of hands-on learning and for someone like me who is completely new
to programming, it was a kick start to learn all the new tools, especially python.

A lot of overviews were given about the field at the beginning of the program. I
Soumya became familiar with all the aspects of data science and got an idea of the various
Sundararaman machine learning algorithms. When you have an idea of everything, you can figure
Fresher out what you are good at and what can you improve on. Being averse to computer
science, it was challenging for me to sit and do programming but I learnt after a fair
amount of practice.

We had good support from the Great Learning team in terms of placement grooming
and career support. Mr Srijit Ghatak, who was my career mentor, really helped me to

 Initially, it was very hard for me to adjust to the syllabus as I was not at all familiar with
Coding or programming. The first week of the course started with Python, which was
a new thing for me. Here, I would like to mention that the teaching faculty boosted my
confidence by mentioning that “It is not rocket science and is easy to learn”. After the
Yeknath Merwade EDA session, I felt self-motivated and realised that irrespective of any branch, one
can achieve success in their ventures. Slowly things started to fall in place. I was in

regular sync with sessions, and the regular exams and quizzes kept us in constant
touch of the topics. In the end, everything was good and great.

I got to sit on campus drive of 7 companies and got shortlisted in all of them. Apart
from this, the CV reviews and Mock Interviews helped me develop confidence and

Overall it was a nice experience as I got good friends and faculty with whom I

 I did an MBA with Finance as my specialization and while working with HDFC, I
enrolled myself in Financial Risk Course with IIM Kashipur. Though I had good
knowledge in Finance Domain, I had no understanding of Coding or Data Science. I
felt the need to upskill and checked for the courses. While searching I found high
Pushpendra Singh recommendations for GL. So I left my job in Jaipur and moved to Bangalore to pursue
Nathawat a full-time program in Data Science Engineering with Great Learning. Since I was
Assistant Manager from a non-programming background, initially it was a bit difficult to follow the
specific modules. But later with the help of faculty, I could cope up with the subjects
and it became easier to understand and manage. The faculty was very helpful in
providing material and guidance, especially in my lacuna. They took extra effort in
organizing classes over those areas during the weekends. Since I was very new to
Data Science, I had to improvise a lot in terms of my CV & Interview performance.
The Career assistance provided by GL helped me prepare an impressive CV & mock
interviews prepped me to crack interviews. I got to interview with 3 companies;
Programmer Analyst Kinara Capital, Credi India, and Cognizant. I cleared the interview with CTS which
involved 3 rounds; 2 in Technical of 45 minutes duration each and 1 HR round of
interview on the same day. The technical interviews involved testing my knowledge of
Machine learning. I got the job confirmation on the same day.

 I wanted to learn more about data science outside of my college, but I took up a job
with Accenture because I was advised that it would look good on my resume. I
worked there for 9 months, and it was a monotonous job because it felt like I was
doing technical support, even though I was supposed to be an Application
Sounthiriya S S Development Associate. Great Lakes is a renowned institute in Chennai, and they

 Initially, I found it difficult because I had very less prior exposure to programming. But
as the sessions progressed, it became easier because of classroom training,
rigorous practice, take-home lab exercises, and support from the colleagues. As the
batch progressed, new tools were introduced by the faculty in a manner which

 The most daunting task is to quit a job and try to transition into a field which requires a
different level of skills altogether. Initially, when I joined GL, I had no idea of what to
expect but along the program, I began to understand that each topic covered in class
acts as a foundation and a lot of self-study and preparation is required to understand

and sessions were very insightful. I come from a programming background so
understanding the logical flow wasn’t as difficult but since I was not involved in any
Graduate coding for 2 years, keeping up with fresh graduates and people with programming
Development Program experience was quite a challenge. One of the best things about the program was the
kind of peers I got to interact with. Everyone had a new approach to understand the
problem. I will be grateful for their support and being one of the reasons for me to get
better.

We were assigned mini-projects and case studies that helped understand the problem
and its practical implementation. In the case of the Capstone project, we had ample
time not just for implementation but also to do the groundwork on the domain that was
Data Scientist assigned. This came in handy during interviews as I was able to explain the real
reasons why data was behaving in such a fashion during the given time.
