CALA COMPONENT B

DURATION : 2 weeks
COMPETENCES/SKILLS:
BACKGROUND/CONTEXT:
It has been observed that many learners in the school's neighbourhood often absent themselves from school due to malaria related illnesses.
THE CALA :This CALA consists of two parts A and B giving total marks of 40marks. Learners are required to do both.
PART A:
1. Identify the malaria vector. Study the stages in the life cycle of the malaria vector. (5)
2. Scout and identify the existing breeding places for the malaria vector within the school and its neighbourhood. (5)
PART B:
1. Write a short report on your findings using the information you gathered in part A. In your report name the vector for the malaria
parasite.Draw and label the stages in the life cycle of the vector.(15)
2. You are also required to do presentation of your data findings to the School Health Master on the types and number of the malaria vector
breeding places you identified. Make an interpretation of the data. Conclude by making recommendations on how to handle the breeding
places. Your report will be useful to the School Health Master for him to be able to convince the Community Health Worker to act. Your
heading for the report must be: REPORT ON FINDINGS ON TOPIC (20marks)
CALA TIPS:
This CALA assumes that you know what a disease vector is. The CALA also assumes you know that the malaria vector breeds in stagnant water.
It is also assumed that you have the skills for data collection and presentation and touse ICT.
