1) In the beginning, there was only water and sky, ruled by the gods Languit and Tubigan. 2) Their grandchildren Daga, Bulan, Aldao, and Bitoon attacked Languit's kingdom after Daga gained control of the winds and became arrogant. 3) Languit struck the brothers with lightning, transforming their bodies - Bulan became the moon, Aldao the sun, and Daga the earth. He also struck Bitoon and her body broke into pieces.

BICOL ORIGIN MYTH: THE CREATION OF THE WORLD

Thousands and thousands of year ago, there was a time when yhe space occupied by the universe was
vacant. The moon, the sun, the stars, and the earth were conspicuous by their absence. Only the vast
expanse of water and the sky above it could be seen. The kingdom of the sky was under the ruler of the
great god Languit, while the water was under the sovereignty of Tubigan

Bitoon: what a beautiful day, just what I love.

Bulan: Father is making sure that the wind is at its right amount for us to feel this kind of gentle wind.

Bitoon: Of course, that’s Father! He’s the best of all, but of course Mom is also the best! No can replace
them.

(Entry of Daga and Bulan)

Bitoon: Why are you such in hurry? Did something happen?

Bulan: catch your breathe first.

Daga: Father… He is…

Aldao: F-father… he is not breathing

That day they held a funeral for their father, what’s more worst their mother also died, making it more
difficult for them. After their death, Dagan, Bulan, Aldao, and BItoon, left under the care of their
grandparents, namely Languit and Tubigan, furthermore Daga succeded in control of winds, after all that
he became arrogant and ambitous, desiring to gain more power, he induce his brothers to attack the
kingdom of Languit

Daga: What did you say?! I’m the eldest here, so do as I command you to do.

Aldao: But brother! He is our grandparent, we can’t do that to him!

Bulan: He’s right, we can’t do that to him!

Daga: are you disobeying me?! Don’t even forget for a second that I’m incontrol of the wind and I’m the
one who succeded after our father!

Bulan and Aldao were constrained to join him in his plot, preparation were made and when everything
was ready they set out on their expedition and begun to attack the gates of the sky, failing to open the
gates, Daga Let loose the winds in all directions so that the gate was destroyed and the brothers
succeded in gaining entrance. But they were met byt the enraged Laguit who set out three bolts of
lightning after them. All of them were struck by lightning. The copper body of Bulan melted into a ball;
so also was thw golden body of Aldao. Daga’s body fell into the sea and became what is now the earth

Bitoon: Where are they---

Languit: you’re that traitors grandchild.

Upon meeting the enraged god Languit, Bitoon was also struck by another bolt of lightning which broke
her body into many pieces.

(Languit and Tubigan confrontation)

Languit: you did all this! You attack my kingdom using our grandchildren!

Tubigan: Languit?...

Languit: how can you do this to me! To my kingdom!

Tubigan: I can’t understand what you’re saying, an attacked? And what about our grandchildren?

Languit: So that’s your plan? Act like nothing happened? What a coward you are!

Tubigan: I had no knowledge about the attack you are talking about! I was asleep far down into the sea!

They fought and Tubigan succeded in pacifying Languit and soon after regretted and wept over the loss
of their grandchildren. Since they could not revive them, they gave each body a light.

Tubigan then planted a seed which grew into a bamboo tree. From one of its branches came a man and
a woman, who became the first parents of human race, three child were born to them. One called
Maisog who invented a fish trap.

One day he caught such a very big and grostesque looking whale that he thought was a god.

Maisog: Go, and worship this big and majestic looking thing!

The people gathered and begun to pray; but no sooner they had begun, the gods from the sky appeared

Languit: I command you to throw that and worship no one other than me.

But Maisog was not afraid and defied the gods. Languit the king of the sky, struck Maisog with lightning
and stunned him. Then he scattered the people over the earth as a punishment. This way the earth was
peopled.

Maisog’s body was blackened by the lightning and all his descendant are black. But Maisog’s son was
carried to the north and became the parent of the white people. His other grandchildren were brought
to the south where the sun was hot and it scorched their bodies so that all their people were brown
color. The other people were carried to the east where they had to feed on clay due to scarcity of food.
Because of this diet, their descendants were of yellow color.

In this way the earth came into being.
