Job Analysis :
Job Analysis is the procedure by which the facts with respect to each jobs are systematically discovered
and noted. It is a process of studying and collecting information pertaining to the operations and job
responsibility. Scope of Job Analysis is of two types 1) Job description 2) Job Specification.
Job description provides information about nature and characteristic of jobs, whereas Job specification
is related to jobholders characteristics like, qualification , experience, skill etc.
Job Analysis is a basically a process of data collection . it covers following seven basic area

Job Enlargement :
It is a job design method wherein there is an increase of number of tasks associated with a certain job.
The scope of duty and responsibility is increased while job enlargement takes place. The increase of
scope is quantitative in nature and not qualitative and at the same level.
Job enlargement is horizontal expansion as scope of job is being increased and variety of tasks are
allotted to the job holder instead being given more authority in decision making.
For example A auto electrician who is specialized and did regular repair of electrical problems in car is
allotted air conditioning repair jobs also. This will help to increase his interest , further increase
efficiency also.
Importance of Job Enlargement :
Reduce monotone, boredom and fatigue and make them more satisfying and fulfilling for the
employees.
Increased Work flexibility : There will be additional manpower in the organization for same
type of job due to job enlargement and supervisor would have more flexibility in crisis situation.
No skills training required : Since the individual are performing the same task in the past, there
is no need for training for new skills. However people and time management interventions are
required. The job thus more motivation for the one performing it.
Job Enrichment :
It is the process of adding more duties and responsibilities , authority and freedom to do job. It is a
vertical expansion of a job.
It gives more responsibility, challenges , and more opportunity to grow and contributes one’s idea to the
organization’s success. It must posses certain core job dimensions like , skill variety , task significance,
task identity , autonomy , and feedback.
For example production manager is now authorized to sign bills of the contractor which was earlier
enrooted through General Manager only.
Learn New skill : As responsibility increases the employee come across new tasks, it is inevitable
that he will learn new skills.
Reduce Boredom : Job enrichment adds variety of duties which will reduce the workplace
boredom.
Receive Recognition : Employees strength and weakness can in identified with the job
enrichment. An employee who excels with a great depth of task may gain recognition, which can
lead to company awards and incentives, or even promotion within the company.
Motivation : Employee is provided more authority with responsibility , also freedom to take
decision , so he will be more motivated than earlier.
