Narrative Report

Lighting has a great impact on daily life and can be used for illumination, entertainment, work, or safety. There are different types of lighting including natural lighting, task lighting, and architectural lighting. Lighting design is important in creating atmosphere and is based on adapting lighting to user needs and well-being. A good lighting design provides illumination as well as visual stimulation through accentuating features and adding layers of brightness, drama, and depth.

NARRATIVE REPORT

(Understanding about Importance of Lighting)

By: ANTHONY EVAN G. OBONG

Lighting is the use of light to illuminate an area. Lighting has a great impact on
our daily life, it can be used for entertainment, work or even for safety purposes. There
are many different types of lighting such as natural lighting, task lighting and
architectural lighting.
Natural light is the most common type of lighting found in our everyday
environment. Natural light is defined by its ability to pass through air and transparent
objects without causing any visible reflection or shadowing objects from view. The
wavelength of light that reaches your eyes determines whether you feel alert or sleepy,
so having the right amount of light in an area can have a significant impact on your
health.
 Lighting Source (John Mark Daz’s Report)
Lighting is the creation and manipulation of light. It is used to illuminate an area,
create a mood, or simply to make things look better. Lighting can be defined as the
effect that light has on an object. The way in which light affects objects depends on its
color, intensity, and wavelength.
Lighting can be divided into three categories: ambient lighting, general lighting, and
special effects lighting. Ambient lighting includes natural sunlight or other forms of
natural illumination such as moonlight or firelight. General lighting includes artificial
sources such as incandescent lights or fluorescent lights but excludes ambient.
 Fluorescent Lamp (Sherly Sabetchana’s Report)
Fluorescent lamps are a type of light bulb that was invented in the early 1930s. They
were created to replace the incandescent light bulbs that had been around for many
years. Incandescent bulbs produce heat when they burn, which causes them to give off
a lot of light, but fluorescent lamps don’t produce any heat at all. This makes them much
more efficient and saves you money on your electric bill each month.
Fluorescent lamps have many different shapes and sizes, but they all contain one
thing in common: an evacuated glass tube filled with mercury vapor.
 Incandescent Lamp (Neil Lentejas Report)
Incandescent lamps are the most common type of light bulb in use today. They were
first invented by Joseph Swan in 1878 and were originally called ‘Swan’s incandescent
lamp’. The incandescent lamp was a very simple design, it consisted of a tungsten
filament, an evacuated glass bulb filled with oil, and a carbon rod which provided the
heat to ignite the tungsten filament.
 Lighting Design (Angelo Manaloto’s Report)
Lighting design is the art and science of designing the lighting in a room to create an
atmosphere or mood. Lighting can be defined as “the effect that light has on objects”
(Lighting Design, 2019). Lighting plays a crucial role in any environment, whether it is
for decoration or functional purposes. It can help create a more pleasant and welcoming
atmosphere, but it can also have an adverse effect on people’s perception of their
surroundings.
Lighting design in architecture and design is based on adapting the lighting to the
needs and well-being of the users, and precisely for this reason it must generate an
emotional response. For this to be possible, it is necessary not only a previous study of
the project, but also a detailed planning to achieve the perfect result.
In this sense, knowing the needs of the people who will inhabit the facilities is key to
achieving lighting that combines wellbeing, luminosity and harmony.
 Detailed Lighting Design Procedure (Carl Kevin Castillo’s Report)

Lighting Design creates visual stimulation – we’re always drawn to the brightest
point in a room, so we use artificial light to accentuate specific features in the space. In
a kitchen, these might be flowers on a kitchen island or dining table which we’ll
highlight. We will also bring focus to the room’s edges to broaden the perspective. We
may add subtle light to vertical surfaces such as cupboards using perimeter lights,
which will create reflected light off those surfaces.

Getting the functional task lighting right, to prepare a meal, make a drink, or simply
see what’s inside the cupboards, is vital, too. Diffuse light is used for general warmth. A
well-designed varied artificial lighting scheme will add brightness, moments of drama,
layers and depth.
