1.Describe a song that you’re interested in.
I think music is an integral part of the existence of humans. The reason why I
said “human” is because, even evolutionarily, music is quite intriguing.
However, one does not need to know the scientific perspective to understand
why music is so deeply ingrained in our minds.
The primary and fascinating aspect of sound, rhythm and melody is how it
captivates our attention and enchants us in its swing.
I am an avid music listener, and I like to listen to everything from Pop, Jazz, and
Rock to classical symphonies.
I have an advantage too because, having been brought up in India since
childhood, I have had the taste of both Indian and International music.
However, if I would have to single down a piece of music that has always moved
me like no other, I would say it is “Agar Tum Saath Ho”.
It is a song from a movie called Tamasha which revolves around a curious case
of two people who go on and off in love with each other.
There are reasons why I love this song so much. Firstly, there are very few songs
that could compete with it in terms of its melody.
Secondly, the song’s lyrics are all about the intensity of love.
The confluence of beautiful mercurial music and deeply curated words make this
song the one to which I always go, when in need of emotional stimulation.
I don’t know whether I would like any other song so much in the future, but with
music, one can never know.
As I transform ahead in my life, perhaps a song will come, that would become
more meaningful to me.

2.Describe a street market in your city
- Where is it
- What can you buy there
- What is it famous for?
Or (It could also be asked in the past tense)
Street Markets are one of the many things which everyone and anyone can go
to and magically find everything and anything there. From a toddler to the
elderly, people can be seen walking around the street markets.
The authentic and pure items on display around the street, just add to the
beautiful experiences that one can have there.
One of the other pros of a street market that gives us, human beings, the highest
sense of happiness is the deals and offs which one can easily get at a street
market.
Living in a country so full of diversity such as India, there are millions of street
markets around the country where people, travel distances, to see.
I have spent most of my teenage years going from one street market to another
around the union territory, Chandigarh and Mohali.
Choosing one from these markets feels like a dilemma.
But the market of phase 3b2 located in Mohali manages to be on the top of my
list, which would be best to describe a street market in my city.
We can buy items ranging from delicious street food to Alley Sole clothes. Sweet
Melodies such as Katani sweets, Classic 44, Milkshakes, and everything that a
human can think about
when they want something sweet. And as big of a Sweet Tooth as I am, one day
wouldn’t go by that I wasn’t at phase 3b2 and eating the little sweet melodies
that it had to offer.
Indian street food which is made there never fails to make my mouth wet.
It has every fragrance of every type of food in the whole country and even
western food.

The sales and shopping stores around there have the best deals and offers on
them. Every afternoon, every store is populous with so many people just looking
for their product.
Evening over 3b2 is a congregation, from kids to adults here, are just eating,
hanging out in their vehicles and living their lives to the fullest.
The fact that it brings people together is the reason for its popularity.
It brought my friends and me closer than ever and made millions of
unforgettable memories here.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do you like shopping online or going out for shopping?
I do a mix of both. Sometimes I shop online if I get a good deal. Many sites such
as Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal have good discounts.
2. What is the difference between shopping with friends and shopping alone?
It’s fun to go shopping with friends. You can discuss things and take each other’s
advice. When I go with my parents, they cannot guide me about the clothes,
which are in trend.
3. What are the disadvantages of shopping in a big mall?
In big malls, nobody guides you about any product. You have to use your own
judgement. Secondly, you cannot get things on credit, which a small shopkeeper
in your town would give you if he knows you. Another disadvantage is that
mostly big malls are outside in the suburbs, and so it is only possible to go by
your car.
4. Why do people like to buy branded products?
Brands are popular because they provide quality, good after sale service, and
also provide status.
5. In your opinion are big discounts real or just an advertisement?
Big discounts are real in the case of branded products, but in most cases, they
are just an eyewash.
Sometimes, outdated or defective pieces are sold by giving big discounts.

3.Describe an argument two of your friends had
- When it happened
- What it was about
- How it was solved
- How you felt about it?
Every type of human social relationship which we make in our lifetime has a
downfall at one point or another.
Relationships, friendships, sibling relationships, and every social relationship
that one can think of have a rough patch sometime.
Even our relationship with our parents is hard for the duration of a few years of
our lives.
Romantic kinship and friendships can even end rather than finding a solution to
our problems within the relationship, which I hope doesn’t happen even in the
worst situations until it is a toxic romance or a toxic friendship.
I have been a witness to an argument between two of my close friends, and it
was one of the most uncomfortable parts of my camaraderie with them.
So, during the covid pandemic, in the year 2020, I joined a new school in 12th
grade and made friends with these two girls, one after the other.
Later, I got to know that they were actually from the same school previously and
had sort of bad blood among them.
Their names are Anshika and Saumya.
Anshika’s best friends from kindergarten had a bad relationship with Saumya,
which, of course, led to her having a weird and awkward rapport with her.
Saumya tried to act like them because she just wanted people to like her as
much as they liked Anshika and her best friend.
It was awkward for me to maintain my friendship with both of them as one
would talk about the other and vice versa.
Once during a typical day, Anshika came and started talking to me. Saumya
joined us later.

The situation had an air of discomfort. However, they both were talking through
me rather than with each other.
It took only one remark from one to the other to shift the conversation into a
full-blown argument.
They started expressing their discontent with each other, drawing out
references from the past.
It looked like they were going to have a fight, but their argument seemed to
morph into a discussion. Soon, they were smiling, poking fun at each other, and
it seemed the differences were resolved for good.
I was filled with joy when I observed this. Personally, it had a pretty big impact
on me as I could not do anything when they would bitch about each other, but I
am glad that because of a mutual friend such as myself, they were able to solve
their grudges and hang out with each other again.
I guess it does not take long for an argument to conclude in agreement if people
are just willing to do so.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do you think arguments are important?
Yes, arguments are definitely important because they make us know about the
other side of the issues. Arguments happen when we are adamant about
something but at the same time, we fail to understand the other side. When we
argue we learn about what others think?
2. What do family members generally argue about?
I think arguments happened over small issues like what should be made for
dinner or what movie should be watched to big issues like how children should
be raised, how should money be spent, marriage decisions, and so on. In case,
there is a family business there may also be arguments on how the business
should be run. In the end, family members can argue over anything and
everything.
3. Is it easier for you to have arguments with your friends or your family
members?
I think it’s easier for me to have arguments with friends because after having the
argument I get the time and space to think about the issue. So, after thinking
-8-

about it I generally apologise if I think I am wrong or I just apologise for arguing
even if I feel I am right.
This ends the issue. On the other hand, with family, I don’t get the space. So,
sometimes the arguments continue for days.
4. Do you think people should change the way they think when they have
arguments?
I think arguments happen because of two main reasons. Firstly, people are
unable to control their emotions and they say things they wouldn’t normally.
Secondly, they happen because people have very strong opinions about
something. So, I think instead of proving oneself right, people should definitely
try to listen to other’s point of view in arguments.
5. If two people argue, do you think a third person should be involved in the
settlement?
Yes, I think a third person can bring in the much-needed objectivity because the
people involved in the argument become emotional about the issue. Sometimes
a third person’s involvement can bring a quick resolution, otherwise arguments
can go on for days.
6. Why do you think people are stubborn and unwilling to change?
I think people are egoistic and they feel that they will lose if they listen to the
other person.
Moreover, they come to believe or practice something because of their past
experiences and that’s why they are emotionally involved with the issue.
7. Do you think you are stubborn?
Yes, I think it’s one of my big drawbacks. I have very strong opinions about
certain things and that’s why I am stubborn. However, I am trying to change this
part about me and listen more to others.
8. Will you be willing to change?
Yes, as I said before I am trying to change but it is harder done than said. It would
take time but it is definitely possible.

4.Describe a natural talent you want to improve like sports music
- What it is?
- When you discovered
- How you want to improve it
- And how you feel about it?
Natural Talent, according to the oxford dictionary, is a natural ability to do
something well and have great artistic abilities. Every person has one or the
other natural talent, which they know about, or is still hidden and waiting, for
them to recognize.
The sad thing is most people have natural talents but are discouraged to follow
their dreams by the manipulative societal norms and made to believe that their
natural talents are not worth it.
It is just heart-wrenching to see people living their entire lives without being able
to do whatever makes them happy.
But I am glad that the upcoming generation has the freedom to choose their
path and shape their life in whatever form they want.
I have the natural ability to be good at playing the guitar, and I believe this is my
natural talent.
I recognized it at a very young age when the instrument made me curious about
the kinds of tones it would make, and this curiosity led me to play it for the first
time at the age of five.
My mom was my first and the only audience back then, and she was shocked at
the fact that I could play at a better level as compared to a normal five-year-old.
This fact encouraged her to put me in an academy when I got a bit older.
Since then, I have been taking regular classes and practising a minimum of about
8 hours weekly to enhance my skills.
The school music teacher and my academy have been my constant supporters
in shaping my talent into a flawless and pure artistic ability.
I have participated in and have won several competitions in the domain of music
at the school and academy district levels.

This ability makes me feel special and also opens up a career path that I will
always have if I decide to turn my passion into a profession.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do you think artists with talents should focus on their talents?
I honestly think that artists with talents should focus on it only if they are
passionate about it because If we are not passionate about something then we
are not able to sustain our interest in the particular activity for long. For
example, the son or daughter of a famous musician might have innate talent
towards music but if they do not have any interest in music they will never
become successful musicians.
2. Is it possible for us to know the children who are 3 or 4 years old will become
musicians or painters when they grow up?
I do not think it is possible to predict what a child will grow up to be in the future
at such a young age. Children at the age of 3 or 4 are very curious and show their
interest in almost everything as they are discovering the world around them. It
would be very difficult to identify that they will become an artist in the future or
not, even if the child has some innate talent, as most of the parents do not pay
much serious attention to what their child is doing.
3. Do you think parents feel guilty for putting too much pressure on their
children?
Well, I believe parents do not feel much guilty for putting their children under
pressure because they think that they are preparing their children for the
challenges that the real world would bring in the future. Parents have the idea
that putting their children under pressure will motivate them to push
themselves harder and achieve the impossible in life.
4. Why people like to watch talent shows?
Honestly, I am not a big fan of talent shows but I think the primary reason why
people love watching
them is entertainment. The talent shows are full of entertainment which is
based on reality as compared to the fictional dramas. People are able to relate
a lot with these reality-based shows and also, they drive a lot of inspiration from
such shows. The talent shows sometimes also show the struggling stories of the
artists which a lot of people love to watch.

5. Do you think it is more interesting to watch famous peoples or ordinary
people's show?
Well, I have a mixed opinion for this question as both the categories teach us
different things. From famous people, we get to know the story behind their
struggles, hard work, and how they became successful, which is very motivating
but then sometimes I feel that famous people are pretentious and one never
gets to know how they are in real life. On the other hand, ordinary people offer
us the real side of humanity to which everyone is able to relate in many different
ways, be it emotionally or how people actually live. Since many people are able
to relate with this so they find ordinary people more interesting.

5.Describe a law on environmental protection
- What it is
- How you first learned about it
- Who benefits from it
- And explain how you feel about this law
I suppose no logical forum would deny or argue against the case of
environmental protection.
Environment and climate are the two things that need to be in a state of
equilibrium.
If not, it will affect the biodiversity including our own species, in unfathomable
ways.
I think this makes the protection of the environment paramount because failing
to do so might even lead to the extinction of our species.
We can see many selfish enterprises roll their eyes when someone talks about
ecological impact.
Millions of trees are cut down in the name of urbanization and progress. Apart
from these, there is also a mafia who smuggle vital environmental properties
and poachers who hunt rare wild animals just for fun.
I think, hardly any person would be dismissive about handling these issues.
Personally, I have high sensitivity toward the environment, and I was so pleased
to find that there is a vital body that contributes to the protection of nature in
my country.
I was recently browsing the articles related to the recent environmental
degradation in my country.
In one of the articles, I found that in 2010, the Government of India launched
the National Green Tribunal Act.
It was formed with a special objective and that was to deal with the cases of
environmental protection in the most effective and speedy manner.
The act has helped immensely because it is a dedicated green court that
exercises its power against those who damage our ecology.
- 13 -

I think anybody who is concerned about nature or faces personal or proprietorial
ecological damage will immensely benefit due to the laws enforced by this court.
Environmentally friendly bodies certainly should have more confidence to move
to the court with environmental litigation. This can also instil fear in those who
do not think twice before damaging any natural place.
In my opinion, such efforts send a clear signal that my country is concerned
about its natural balance, and I feel proud about it.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do you think this law is acceptable to the people?
Yes, I think this law has been accepted well by the people of India. There is
growing awareness about the environmental issues and Indians too are making
their efforts to save and preserve the environment.
2. Is there any situation wherein people may disobey the law?
Yes, there are situations when people disobey the/this law. The main reasons
for such laws not being followed by the people are personal profits/benefits and
the convenience that they may have to give up.
3. Do people like being a police officer in your country?
Yes, many people in my country like being a police officer. Every year there are
several people who take the tests to become a police officer. The competition
that exists for such exams is a clear indicator that many people strive to become
police officers and serve their country.
4. What qualities should a police officer possess?
A police officer should possess many qualities. He/she should be physically fit
and active and should have a passion to serve the people and the Nation. Some
other qualities are honesty, eagerness to search for the truth and bring justice
to people, some skills like martial arts or other such combat skills to fight the
criminals, courage, fearlessness, determination, and many more such qualities.
5.Why some people prefer to be a lawyer?
Some people prefer to be a lawyer because they want to ensure that everyone
receives justice and is treated fairly by the law. They may have a desire to fight
for others’ rights and ensure that everyone gets a fair chance to justify their

actions. Some people choose this profession because of the prospects of earning
money and fame.
6. Should people be penalized when they use mobile phones while driving?
These days vehicles are well equipped with a system wherein you can connect
via Bluetooth to your mobile and you can be handsfree and still use your mobile
but if a driver is talking or texting on the phone while driving, he should be
heavily penalized.
7. Is kindness the most important quality of a police officer?
No, kindness is certainly not the best quality of a Police Officer. A Police officer
has to be honest, straightforward, and very curious while performing his duty.
Unfortunately, we cannot afford to be very kind as the criminals may take
advantage of the situation.
8. Do you think both men and women can be police officers?
These days we are living in an egalitarian society so gender bias doesn't hold
ground in any profession. Every man and every woman are worthy of any
profession. So, both and men and women are equally capable of serving in the
police department.
9. Do you think the police officers are paid too much?
I think in the Western world police officers are paid well in accordance to their
duties but in the developing countries their salaries do not match the work they
do, they deserve better salaries. But I do not agree that they are paid too much
because they face too many dangers of life and limb while performing their
services.
10. Do all Indian people obey the law?
Human psychology is the same everywhere in the world when the citizens know
that they are going to be caught, penalized, put behind the bars, they will obey
the law. A law well implemented is well obeyed. I think Indian people know they
can find loopholes to save themselves, so they do not obey the law. I have come
across very honest Indians and very dishonest people from other nations so the
system that has to get strict.

6.Describe a live sports match that you have watched
- What it was
- When you watched it
- What it was like
- And how you felt about it
I believe one does not need to elaborate on how much people love sports. It’s a
fascinating
human phenomenon altogether because it has the capability of consistently
creating jaw-
dropping moments for millions of people, and remarkably, at the same moment.
Millions or
perhaps hundreds of millions had their excitement surge when they saw
Maradona’s goal of
the century or when India’s cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni sealed
the 2011
world cup final with an emphatic six.
I am an avid cricket fan. I think Cricket is a religion, and I am its most devoted
pupil.
I often go to the stadiums to watch live cricket matches. The most thrilling
match, that I have ever witnessed, was way back in 2014, when I had my first
live experience of any big sporting event.
It was a test match where Australia was touring India, and both the teams
seemed equally matched.
The match was held in Mohali, and I can clearly recollect that I saw thousands
of faces coloured with Indian flags on their skins and Indian flag in their hands.
However, I also saw a few Australian Clans supporting their team with rigour and
passion.
I went there with my friends. Combined we were 8, and we did not leave a single
chance to shout at the highest pitch of our voices.

It was also an instance when Shikhar Dhawan, a prolific Indian cricketer debuted
with a mammoth score of more than 180 runs hitting the
fastest century by a debutant. It is difficult to elaborate on how passionate I felt.
I still feel
goosebumps reminiscing how thousands erupted in unison chanting the
performance of the
Indian team. I guess only a few moments in your life can make you feel patriotic,
and,
remarkably, sports can do that.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do you prefer to watch live sports or watch it on TV?
I prefer watching sports on the TV. I think the Televisions have improved so
much over the recent times that the experience is the same as watching it live.
Moreover, the luxury of sitting in the comfort of one’s house cannot be
matched.
2. Why do some people like to watch live sports?
I think watching sports live is much more about spending quality time with
friends and family. People go there to break the monotony of everyday life and
do something different. For some, it is also about the possibility of meeting or
getting an autograph from their favourite sportsperson.
3. What kind of sports do Indian people like to watch?
Indians are crazy about many sports like hockey, football, but I think nothing can
come close to the popularity of cricket. I think nearly everyone watches cricket
and many plays it also. In fact, many Indians in foreign countries also play cricket
even though the game isn’t popular there.
4. Do you think competition is good for students?
Certainly, I think competition makes us students work harder. Life without
competition would be very boring. Moreover, the growing population means
that competition is only going to increase in the future, so it better for students
to learn to handle competition from early childhood.

7.Describe a plan in your life that is not related to work or study
- What it is about
- Why you made this plan
- What you need to do first
- And explain how you would feel if it is successful
I think that from an early age when we are put in a 15-year long system of
education, we are taught that the only goals which are important in our lives are
either academic or related to our careers.
But one thing which is outside of this definition of “important goals” is actually
those which make us different from others. Our personal life goals are the ones
that make us who we are.
The empathetic side of our personality is highlighted through our personal goals.
I also believe that every person has a particular goal through which that person
seeks to integrate good values into his or her life.
Personally, my life goal besides school and work is to give an orphan a good life.
I deeply feel that the children who are left alone due to an unfortunate accident
or left by their parents should be taken care of.
And if every couple decides, to at least adopt one child, and make it one of their
own, many of the little cute angels will have a happy and loved life.
With this belief in my thinking system, I have made a plan to adopt an orphan
after getting married.
Even if I don’t get married in the foreseen years, I will be a single mom to an
adopted kid, and it wouldn’t be a problem for me after setting my own life
straight.
It is not as clear as it should be in my life goal, but even vaguely, it gives a sense
of happiness just thinking about it.
Giving a child a lovely home and doing my part in society will fulfil me as a person
in one way.
I am firm that it will be successful in the future as I really want to do it.
The success in this part of my life will give me inner peace which can’t be
described even with a million words.

Follow-Up Questions
1. Do you think it is important for a person to have a career plan?
Yes, it is very important for a person to have a career plan. A career plan gives a
person something to look forward to. He can then plan his education according
to that career plan. Without a plan, any work seems meaningless. So, it is very
important to have a plan. Sometimes, a person may change his plan midway,
but all the same without a plan taking any step ahead is impossible.
2. How do most people plan their future education and their future career?
Most people plan their future education and career by talking to their parents,
teachers, career counsellors and by consulting some people who are already in
the same career.
3. Do you think it’s important to include the factor of one’s salary in a career
plan?
Yes, salary is a very important factor in a career plan. It is generally seen that in
the early stages of one’s life, money is needed for everything. One cannot go for
a career, which doesn’t pay well in the early stages. Later on, in life, one can go
for a career, which one loves even if it doesn’t pay well.
4. Do you think planning is important or is it a waste of time?
Planning is very important. It is definitely not a waste of time. If things are done
without planning, then it wastes a lot of time because most of the effort may go
in the wrong direction and prove futile.
5. What kinds of personal plans should people make for themselves?
People should make plans about their studies, about their careers, their
finances, about their married life, about places they want to visit, and about
their retirement.
6. In general, how do people make plans?
People make plans according to their situation, by consulting their elders and
also by realizing their own interests and hobbies.
7. For a person with children, what influence does this have on their personal
plans for the future?
- 20 -
For Paid Online Classes, WhatsApp on +91-7347081010.
When a person has children, all his personal plans take a backseat, and the
upbringing of the child comes first. All the personal plans become flexible and
revolve around the needs of the family and children. I think this flexibility has a
charm of its own.
8. Should parents set goals for children?
Parents are the best people to set goals for the children. They can help their
children in setting goals. They know the temperament of their child and so it is
all right if they set goals for them, but at the same time, they should keep in
mind the aptitude of the child and set realistic goals for him/her.
9. When do young children start to set goals for themselves?
Children start to set goals for themselves after completing senior secondary
when they have to decide which college to join. But these goals are mainly in
consultation with their parents. Once they start earning, they start setting goals
independently.

8.Describe a piece of local news that people are interested in
You should say
- What it was about
- Where you saw/heard it
- Who was involved
- And explain why people were interested in it
There is no denying that news affects us. It stimulates our interests and often
initiates discussions and conversations among people.
Recently, I came across a newsfeed that though at first instance seemed totally
irrelevant to me, sparked quite a bit of talk among the people of my area.
It featured a man who first appeared anonymous to people owing to the
pathetic state that he was in.
He barely had clothes on him. The ones that were there seemed rotten. His
physique deteriorated to such a state that there was hardly any muscle left on
him.
One could get the feeling that he was a walking piece of skin on a skeleton.
His hairs were long, and his beard was way too shabby for him to maintain.
Some people found this man outside a compound one morning. He seemed to
succumb to death.
However, the people rushed him to the hospital. It did not seem apparent until
a few of the people recognised that he was once a famous television celebrity
from the region.
Featuring in many local television shows and stage performances, he was quite
a popular figure almost two decades before.
However, for many years his whereabouts were not known to anybody, and
people slowly forgot about his existence.
The actor Dileep Rathod was unknown to me too. I had never known about his
existence before I got to know from the people about him.
That is why his mention brought my attention quickly to the newsfeed that I
ignored. I read it and realised how famous he was back then.

When this feeble man, who once was the heartthrob of many, was identified,
several of his old fans tried to visit the hospital. Realising that there was none
dear to him in his proximity, people really felt sorry for him.
Many even went to meet him, taking food and fruits with them.
There were discussions in many households as the news spread like wildfire
through WhatsApp and Facebook.
For me, the news seemed more humbling than shocking. I pondered over it that
day and strongly felt that there are mysterious ways in which life can treat us.
It is better to always respect what you have got and preserve what is important
because who knows when you would have nothing with you.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do people read newspaper where you live?
Yes, people in my city love to read the newspaper. In fact, there are so many
people in my society who read almost 2-3 newspapers every day. I guess the
reason behind it is that the literacy rate in my city is one of the highest in my
country. So, the educated people love to read newspaper so that they have
some content to discuss with their colleagues or neighbours. Also, there is a
newspaper publishing company in my city which is also the largest selling English
daily in North India.
2. Do people prefer local or international news?
I think there are lot of factors which decide whether a person would read local
or international news. For example, because of Covid everyone is equally
interested in both international as well as local news. People know about the
development of vaccine and they also want to know about the number of Covid
cases in their city. At the same time, if we leave Covid aside, then we can say
that small businessmen or people from weak economic backgrounds are mostly
interested in local news whereas those who are working for multi-national
companies are more interested in international news.
3. Do you think it’s important to have a national identity?
Yes, I think it’s very important to have a national identity because it encourages
people to understand the country they live in and work for the betterment of
their country. Also, for countries which have gained independence, it helps the

people to realize the sacrifices made by their ancestors and it teaches them to
uphold those values.
4. How can people develop their national identity?
I think there are many ways in which people could develop their national
identity. The first and easiest way would be to wear the traditional attires of
their country. Secondly, they can wear pins of their flags or hoist the national
flags outside their country. In my country the government has installed huge
National flags in majority of the city centres and also they have established a law
according to which our national anthem is played in the movie theatre before
the screening of any movie.

9.Describe an occasion when many people were smiling
- When it happened
- Who you were with
- What happened
- And explain why many people were smiling
Smile is such a simple word but can bring an enormous amount of happiness to
one’s life within seconds.
I believe that we all have at least experienced the feeling of blissfulness when
everyone around us is happy and smiling broadly.
The whole situation gives off such positive energy that you are mesmerized by
it, and it stays with you forever.
Even after so many years, whenever you sit around the same group of people
again, you bring that moment up just to feel those same feelings again, as it did
when it took place.
For me, an occasion when every single person within my eyesight was smiling,
was Diwali, the year before the last. It started quite badly, with all of us
preparing nothing for the festival.
We were a lot behind the schedule because everyone had their own overly
packed work routines.
They had to finish their work quickly so that we could have a good Diwali.
The whole morning till evening was hectic.
At the last minute, we had to travel distances to collect the items required for
the evening celebrations as the items were not available anywhere nearby.
Handling kitchen items and then making dishes for the evening proved to be
very tedious.
And at the end, finally, we were able to set up the Diyas, which are small burning
lamps and lights around the house with almost every member in the household
working.
But finally, we all came together and sat in the backyard of our house where our
father, following the tradition of night celebrations in our house, was setting up
the barbeque, and my mother was helping him graciously.

If I talk from personal experience, I couldn’t agree more. My mother gets a lot
of compliments about her infectious smile and she is one of the friendliest
people I know. I think people find it easier to approach or talk to people who
smile and thus they seem more friendly for sure.
8. Do people smile more when they are younger or older?
I think smile has nothing to do with age. Both young and old people like to smile.
I think young people may be more honest about their happiness when they smile
and it might not be the case with older people as they are certainly better at
masking their true feelings.

10.Describe a company where you live that employs a lot of people
- What it does
- How many people it employs
- What kind of people work there
- How you feel about it
Companies are vital organs of the economical ecosystem.
They pump up the oxygen in a society in terms of the opportunities they give for
people to earn their bread, along with generating value for economical
sustenance.
There is a business enterprise in the city where I live which is perhaps one of the
biggest corporations in my country.
It is a financial company and goes by the name of Lawson and Tuchel.
Lawson and Tuchel has been extending its financial expertise to many
companies for decades.
It is one of the leading firms in its domain and has been paramount in the
flourishing of several big business enterprises in my country. Recently, with the
entrepreneurial culture which has instilled life into the Indian economy, the
growth of Lawson and Tuchel has also become tremendously high.
It has been known to have a rigorous working culture and it aspires to employ
people of very high calibre. It has a high standard of requirements and often its
staff come from prestigious Business schools in India. That means that it hires
the brightest minds in the country.
There are about 10000 employees on the campus that I have been mentioning
as it is the headquarters of the western division that this company has in my
country.
My city has seen significant growth and prosperity in the last 3-4 decades and
Lawson and Tuchel has been a major player in this growth.
The people who work there have certainly raised the living standard of my city.
There were many companies that sought the same path as Lawson and Tuchel
and established their presence in my city. Consequently, my city is on the road
to becoming one of the paramount financial hubs of my country.

Follow-Up Questions
1. Is it easy to find a job in India?
No, definitely not easy. India is a diverse country and has a population of more
than 120 crores. Obviously, there is a lot of competition in getting jobs.
2. What should the government do if there is unemployment?
The government should encourage self-employment and also set up cottage
industries, so that more and more people can be employed. MNCs should also
be encouraged, so that the problem of unemployment can be mitigated.
3. Is a high salary important?
Yes, a high salary is very important. Money is of course the most important
motivation to work. But sometimes, it is OK to get a job one loves, even if the
salary is a bit less.
4. Is it ok to do a job you like with a low salary?
If I have to choose a job with a slightly high salary, but I don't like it, then I
wouldn't do it and choose the job of my liking. However, if the difference in pay
is very high, then I would go for that job even if I don't like it much.
5. Are there many big companies in your country?
Yes, there are. India is a fast-developing country. There are many Indian
companies, which are very big such as Tata, Mahindra, Godrej, Reliance, Onida,
and so on. There are also many multinational giants which have opened
branches in India, such as Samsung, LG, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and so on.
6. How can a small company grow big?
Small companies can do so in many ways. They can work hard, employ skilled
workers, focus on quality, and employ good marketing strategies.
7. Should big companies donate more to charities?
Yes, they should. I believe that anyone who has enough should help the needy
on humanitarian grounds. Many big companies help NGOs and NPOs. This is a
win-win situation for both. When they get publicity for their charity work, they
are getting advertisement for free.

No, they should not. Law should be the same for all – big as well as small

be equally serious for all law offenders.

11.Describe a quiet place you like to spend your time in
- Where it is
- How you knew it
- How often you go there
- What you do there
- And explain why you like the place
I feel like everybody has their own quiet and happy place somewhere on this
planet, where they go through a series of different emotions, which ultimately
ends with them having a feeling like they are on cloud nine.
For me, my quiet place brings peace to my mind, no matter what sensation I am
going through.
It is a small place on the second story of my grandmother’s house. Though, the
second story is mostly used as a storage place now. But this specific corner by
the balcony of the room is calming.
Though the first word which comes to mind while describing the place is dusty,
the view from that corner is just magical.
Secondly, the silence just adds up to the soothing experience one can have
there.
Finding this place is a whole new story in itself. I was ten when I discovered my
little calming place.
It was the time of winter and we were travelling back to our hometown to visit
my grandparents for the winter vacation.
The second story at that time was in the process of being converted into storage.
Hence, it was taken good care of and was less dusty as compared to now.
Reaching there, I saw many of my old toys, which were dear to me when I was
younger, being placed in the room with the balcony, having my quiet spot.
I remember playing there by myself for hours and then looking outside the
balcony and enjoying the view.
After that, I started coming here whenever I would visit my grandparents.
Usually, I just sit and admire the view here in the spring season as the trees have

beautiful coloured flowers, and even in autumn, the falling orange leaves also
bring a smile to my face.
At first, I was attracted to this place because of the nostalgia of childhood
memories, but slowly, it started giving me the ‘alone time’ I never knew before
that I needed for self-growth.
It helped me introspect and build me as a human being.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Is it hard to find quiet places in cities?
Yes, it’s very hard to find quiet places in cities nowadays because of increasing
urbanization and cars on the street. I think that’s one of the major reasons
people go on vacations. Unfortunately, tourist spots are even more crowded.
2. Why is it quieter in the countryside?
The main reason is the lack of traffic and industries in cities. Moreover, there is
a lot of greenery which absorbs noise rather than reflecting it.
3. Why do people go to quiet places?
I think the main reason is so that can think peacefully and concentrate on their
work. Noise is distracting and it also reduces our efficiency.
5. Compared with young people, do old people prefer to live in quiet places?
I think both the old and young prefer quiet places but young people cannot enjoy
the luxury of living in quiet places like the countryside as they cannot get good
jobs there.

Some people do not like quiet places because they want fun and frolic all around
them. They want activity and noise all around them.
5. Do you know other quiet places?
There are many quiet places in the countryside. Many of my friends live in
villages. Whenever I go to their homes, there is no noise of traffic, and you can
hear the chirping of the birds and the rustling of leaves, which is very soothing
to the ears.

12.Describe a time when you helped a friend
- When it was
- How you helped him/her
- Why you helped him/her
- And how you felt about it
I think that friendship is one of the relationships where we can decide with
whom we want to be friends and with whom we don’t. In friendship a person
goes through several emotions.
As friends, we tend to care for each other. We tend to help each other out in
bad situations or just as a small favour.
A similar story is what I want to share right now.
It was about 4 years ago when one of my close friends, and I were in 10th grade.
She was going through this phase where she did not want to talk to anyone
about her problems, and it affected everything in her life.
Her grades went down drastically, and the teachers were quite hard on her. She
went through many traumatising things that year, and people were judgmental,
as I believe everyone would have experienced in their high school time.
And our group at that time just excluded her in many ways. But I made sure I
was there for her at that time.
Sometimes, I think this is what inspired me to pursue psychology ahead in the
future. I even talked with her parents regarding the issues, which she was not
able to express at that time. And I feel our friendship blossomed after that, and
at present as well, she is one of my best friends, and we hang out from time to
time.
There is no particular reason as to why I decided not to leave her side while she
was being hard to be around. In my opinion, it is just something which good
friends do for each other.
Being there for each other. And this experience made me feel better as a person.
It helped me choose a career path after high school and even gave me a sense
of security that she will do the same thing for me in the future if I ever happen
to go through a dark phase.

Follow-Up Questions
1. How do people usually help each other?
People help each other in many ways. For example, people help tourists by
telling them about directions. People also help each other financially by loaning
some money during tough times. In student life, intelligent students help others
with their homework or studies during after school hours.
2. How is online help different from real-life help?
The main way people can help others online is by bringing attention of others to
their ordeal. For example, many people got hold of oxygen during covid
pandemic by raising SOS calls on the internet.
People can also donate money to charities online, which can use them on the
ground. I think the biggest difference is that we cannot directly help others
online except if we transfer them money.
However, the advantage is that people can help others online wherever they are
located and they are not restricted by their geographical boundaries.
3. Should schools be responsible for teaching students how to cooperate?
I think both schools and parents should be responsible for teaching children
about cooperation. However, the increasing competition in schools is sadly
having an opposite effect and many students are facing issues in working along
with others in their adult life.
4. What are the differences between help from friends and help from family?
I think the main difference is that in case of help from friends we feel more
obligated to return it sooner or later, whereas in the cases of family we don’t
feel that need. We take help from family for granted, which is both a good thing
and a bad thing.
5. Do you like helping others?
Yes, I do. I love helping others. I have realised it gives a lot of mental satisfaction
and happiness.
6. Should parents teach helping others to their children?
Yes, of course. Parents are responsible for bringing their children into this world,
and so it is their duty to make their children into responsible citizens of the

future. Parents don't have to do anything special to accomplish this. They just
have to lead by example. Children will automatically follow their footsteps. If all
citizens are helpful and nice, then the whole world would become a nice place
to live in.
7. Do you think nowadays people do more good work as compared to the past?
I don't think so. Life in the past was simpler and slower. People helped each
other a lot. Now, everyone is in the rat race of money and materialism. No one
has the time to help others.
8. Will you help others in the future?
Yes, definitely. I believe that we must do unto others as we want them to do
unto us. If I will help others, only then I can expect help from others when I need
it.
9. How do you encourage children to help others?
Nothing special is needed. Children are good observers and copy what their
elders are doing. All you have to do is help others and they will automatically
follow.

13.Describe a leisure activity near/on the sea that you want to try
- What it is
- What you need to prepare
- How easy or difficult it is
- And explain why you want to try it
As a water enthusiast, I always go to a water body during my leisure time to
improve my skills and just to have fun for some moments out of this occupied
life of mine.
It gives time for personal growth as a human being with interests and hobbies
rather than being subjected to textual growth.
Though I know most of the fun activities that can be performed around the sea,
there is one which I am very keen to learn and add to my bucket of abilities.
Surfing has always been fascinating to me since I was a young child. As a kid, my
family made monthly trips to the beach.
My siblings and I had a fair share of many beautiful and joyous memories there.
We learnt so many facts about the water that we started bragging about it at
middle school.
My older brother has been a fast learner compared to me. Hence, he knows how
to surf and look cool while doing so.
This was one of the first motivations which pushed me to actually learn the art
of surfing. Secondly, I believe it will give me a sense of achievement in my
personal goal of learning more about water activities.
Lastly, as there is so much competition among my siblings, I don’t want to lose
against them. In the process of learning to surf, there are many things that I need
to prepare.
The foremost being, giving time to the whole journey of learning and patience
being the second most important.
I believe it will not be very hard for me to learn surfing as I already have most of
the skills, which are its prerequisites. This fact or belief that I have makes me
even more eager to learn it as soon as possible.

1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of vacations on the seaside?
Seaside vacations offer many benefits. However, the main advantage is the
beautiful sights and the chance to try on some water sports. On the other hand,
people can get heat strokes and bad tans if they spend too much time in the sun.
Additionally, there may be accidents like drowning etc.
2. Why do children like the sea better than adults?
I think it would be wrong to consider that adults don’t like the sea. For children,
I it’s mostly about water sports. Children love doing water sports. Children can
have fun and play around in the water without getting hurt.
3. What types of job positions can be found on or near the sea?
People can find jobs like swimming instructors, lifeguards, fishing etc. Moreover,
people can also find work at seaside restaurants as there are many sea food
restaurants on the seashore. Finally, seaside locations are very popular tourist
destination so there are many hotels in their vicinity. So, these locations can
provide jobs in the hospitality industry.

14.Describe a time when you shared something with others (or another
person)
- What you shared?
- Who you shared with?
- Why you shared it?
- And explain how you felt about sharing it?
It is widely believed that sharing is caring, but one thing which we are not told
by any quote is that sharing is not merely restricted to objects or food.
Sharing our experiences and secrets also counts. Nowadays, sharing has become
more of a psychological topic.
It is described as something which we do in a therapy session, in a safe space, or
within a support group.
With the increasing anxieties and insecurities in the world, I sometimes feel that
it is an appropriate description.
I believe it is easier for us to share our hard parts of life with a friend rather than
with anyone else in our circle.
One of the reasons is being of a similar age which makes us believe they can
relate to it more than anyone else.
For instance, personally, in my teen years, there were many things that I wanted
to let out of my mind, but it was harder than I believed it to be.
My closest friend of eight years, Simran, made it easier for me to express myself.
I would share everything and anything with her whenever I felt like I wanted to
talk about something.
One of these things was my insecurity about the way I looked.
Many teens go through it because of non-realistic societal images of a perfect
body.
Simran made me feel better and so light-minded even with a small conversation
that I would have with her.
I think that is the foremost reason why I feel comfortable while sharing anything
with her.

As a person, after sharing my concerns about the way I looked and the way my

Follow-Up Questions
1. Do you like to share?
Yes, I love to share. In fact, I shared my meals with all my friends at school. I also
used to share my notes with my friends and classmates. It was a habit.
2. What are the consequences if children don’t like to share?
I think it might be difficult for children to make new friends if they are hesitant
to share. When children grow up, they might face even bigger problems. For
example, when they are working in a company and they are asked to share their
responsibilities with others. If they fail to do so, they might even lose their jobs.
3. How do you feel about sharing accommodations with others on campus?
I am open to sharing a house with others but I am not open to sharing my room.
Also, in the case of house, it would depend upon the person I have to share the
accommodation with. I would love to share accommodation with people with
the same mindset.
4. How could parents and teachers teach young children to share?
I think parents could do this by actually making children share responsibilities
and things at home. For example, young children should be made to share a
room. Teachers can give group assignments and encourage children to work
together. When they work together and depend upon each other, they would
automatically learn to share.
5. Do people in your country (or, you) prefer to share public transport or do

from their hometown.
7. Do you think there are any advantages to sharing your home with other
(non-family) people?

there are conflicts, it can be a bad experience. Advantages are that the expenses
can be shared. So, it becomes cheaper.

15.Describe a time you got lost in a place you didn’t know about
- When did it happen
- Who was with you
- What did you do
- How you felt about it
I categorize myself as a person who is not even fairly good at navigation and
routes.
If it wasn’t for the internet and google maps, I would have never been to travel
alone anywhere even in my own local district.
In order to avoid a situation of being completely lost, I generally travel with my
friends or family. In that way, I don’t have to take any stress about the different
and confusing routes and can come back home safely.
But as an adult, it is not always possible to do that. You have to do certain
travelling alone as a part of your job or to run some errands.
There was a time when I had to travel to the branch of my office in Panchkula
which is near Mohali with some data and had to stay there for a few days.
One of my colleagues and I travelled to the branch together. I think it was in
April of 2019.
The climate was hot and the car ride was comfortable, as it was a company car
which was driven by my colleague and she took care of the routes. The first few
days there were lovely.
The staff in that branch were sweet. They considered our opinions, gave us
permission to view their work and listened to our suggestions.
Even the living facility was great. But on a particular day, my colleague had to go
to the branch early as she had some assigned work.
I was left behind to come back later. In between, on the way from my hotel to
the office which was only a few minutes away, I got lost.
I didn’t know where to go or what to do. It was a panic situation.

I was able to call my colleague and she came to pick me up from the very little
information which I could provide her about the place.
This expression was like a nightmare for me. But it also made me realize that it
is important for one to know the local routes.
Since then, I have been trying to memorize the local routes of my area and make
sure I don’t only rely on my phone for that.

Often, quite early in life when we have unbounded hopes with ourselves

Anyways, we had always planned to live in the same town doing something
together.
It was our dream to stay connected, work on something together and keep
creating the moments to make our friendship last forever.
However, grand plans often turn out to be fantasies of childhood.
Simon and I took different academic paths. He took commerce in education
whereas I did Software Engineering, and consequently, I got a very amazing job
opportunity through campus placement.
It was in the US, which is currently the hub of Computer engineering-related
pursuits.
Simon, on the other hand, had great plans that we would have an
entrepreneurial journey together.
I had to reveal to him that I wanted to pursue this alternate route because it
promised a plethora of opportunities for me.
During one of our hangouts, I showed him my offer letter. To be honest, my
heart was literally pounding as I did not want him to get hurt, or for that matter,
be really angry at me.
Simon opened the letter, and to my amazement, his face lit with happiness as
soon as it became apparent to him what it curtailed.

He stood up and hugged me tight, congratulating me the way friends do, by
abusing me in all friendliness and then patting my back.
Frankly, I was not sure whether I was pleased with his joy or relieved that he was
not mad.
I guess it did not even matter what I thought because he just wanted me to
throw a party then.
I guess when it comes to true friendships, the scope of understanding stretches
far beyond the case of any other relationship because the values of friendship
are based fundamentally on acceptance.
I can say this with confidence because my friend accepted a truth
wholeheartedly, which was clearly hard for him to accept.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do you think we should tell truth at all times?
I don’t think telling the truth at all times is a wise choice. I think if the truth does
nothing but hurt a person, I think we should avoid telling the truth.
2. How do you know when others are telling the truth?
I think it is easy to tell how others are telling the truth from their facial
expressions. For example, people start sweating or avoiding eye contact when
they are lying. However, this might also be sweating due to other reasons and
thus it is not easy to determine if people are indeed lying or just physically
uncomfortable.
3. Do you think it is important to win the game or follow the rules?
I think the victory would feel hollow if people do not follow the rules. It would
not feel that the victory was deserved. So, although the outcome is important,
following the rules is even more important.
4. Sometimes people should tell lies. Do you agree?
Yes, I believe that if the truth serves no purpose but only hurts other people’s
feelings, we should avoid telling the truth. For example, telling a person just
before a party that they don’t look good in the dress would just make them
uncomfortable and reduce their confidence.

17.Describe a skill that you can teach other people
- What it is
- How you learnt it
- How can you teach others this skill
- How do you feel about this skill
I think we can accept this as a fundamental truth that what separates humans
from any other organism is the ability to learn new skills.
It is this wide variation and variety in skills that enables humankind to pursue
various domains of professions from a doctor, an engineer and a scientist to an
accountant or even an actor.
I have always been a person who looks forward to building new skills and
enhancing them over time.
However, it is my strong belief that no other skill is as important as being able
to communicate precisely and flawlessly.
In my case, if I remember correctly, having an affinity for communication was
innate.
I have always liked to present the most accurate description of ideas that come
to my mind.
I guess a person has to be dedicated relentlessly to practising communication
skills, regardless of the situation.
Though, it took a toll sometimes when I had to communicate for a long duration.
It drained me often to translate my abstract thoughts into clearly designed
words.
But it also paid me tremendously in long run.
The other reason for my strong ability to put forth my ideas is that I have been
a very good listener, since my childhood.
I would take words, phrases, sentences and even intonations from everywhere,
be it a sports commentary, a debate or even a dialogue from a movie.

Fortunately, we are designed to adapt to language even in our old age, which
makes it possible for anybody to be a good communicator or conversationalist
if they just adhere to these principles lifelong.
To teach this skill, firstly, I would address and make them aware that succumbing
to anxiety is the biggest hurdle they will face.
I will make them practice stopping and thinking before they utter what is in their
head. It will be equally important for the learners to analyse their language, time
and again, and incorporate the improvements.
Lastly, to sharpen a skill, one has to repeat, and for the same reason, I would
make them speak as much as they can, as accurately as they can.
The more they speak, the better they will become.
I am sure, it is indisputable to argue against nurturing good communication
skills, and surely, it is one of those skills which can be cultivated at any age.
These things suggest that people should, at least, try once to sharpen their
erudition skills.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Should teachers be funny when they teach?
Yes, I think teachers should employ the use of humor while teaching. It lightens
the class atmosphere and improves the relationship between students and
teachers. In other words, students feel comfortable discussing their doubts and
problems with the teachers. However, teachers must learn when to be strict,
otherwise, it can impact the discipline in the classroom.
2. What qualities should teachers have?
Firstly, I think the most important skill that teachers should have is good
communication skills. They need to understand how to teach in simple words.
Secondly, they should be good observers. They need to be able to pick up the
fears and anxieties students have. Only then they can build their confidence.
Finally, teaching is about patience. Teachers need to be ready to explain the
concepts again and again if their students are facing any difficulty.
3. Which do you think are more important practical skills or academic skills?
Practical skills and academic skills have their own importance. I think it depends
upon the person’s profession. If a person wants to be a teacher, a lawyer, or

anything in academics, they need to be an expert in academics. However, in
other fields like business, communication skills etcetera, are more important.
4. Which age group is the best age for learning?
I am a strong believer in the fact that there is no age for learning. We can learn
anything at any age. And actually, I believe that we should keep learning new
skills as it keeps the mind sharp and active.

18.Describe a time when you needed to use your imagination
- When it was
- When you needed to use imagination
- How difficult or easy it was
- And explain how you felt about it
Imagination is perhaps one of the most paradoxical abilities or faculties of the
human mind.
It is paradoxical because everybody knows what imagination is but it is not
something that everybody can do effectively.
I never considered or pondered my imagination skills. There never was a need,
until once I had to write my first essay for the IELTS exam.
This topic has given me an opportunity to reminisce about that particular
instance, which I am going to elaborate on here.
It was my first attempt at one of the practice tests at a coaching centre that I
joined to crack the IETLS exam.
The task was to write an essay of about 250 words which could be stretched
more.
I had written essays in school but this was a very peculiar case and the language
had to be good.
The topic which I got was about the implications of Artificial Intelligence in our
future which frankly was not the sort of topic which intrigued me.
Hence, the difficulty of the test became two-fold because firstly, writing is never
easy and secondly the topic seemed alien to me.
Still, giving up was not the option and I started thinking really hard about the
results – both good and bad, of using technologies like Artificial Intelligence.
My primary thought was about what I knew about this technology and I started
recollecting every instance that I heard or saw something about it.
Soon, ideas started presenting themselves to me and I quickly formed
reasonable chains of reasons why we will use it and the effects that will manifest
because of such uses.
- 49 -

I tried to incorporate various perspectives, pondering both good and bad
consequences when such a powerful technology will engulf our lives in major
areas.
Soon, the act of thinking or imagining which seemed so rusty at first became
fluid.
Remarkably, the turmoil that the first few words were soon compensated by the
flow which I attained in the rest of the essay.
Now, in hindsight, I can appreciate how imagination stimulates the brain.
It is an activity that though tough to inhabit, is equally enjoyable because of its
intellectual satisfaction.
I guess, in every person, there is a faculty of intellectuality which when stressed
upon makes one feel internally satisfied.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do you think adults can have lots of imagination?
I don’t think imagination depends upon age. Both children and adults can
imagine things. The only thing is that children are not restricted by real-world
knowledge in their imagination. So, children can sometimes imagine completely
impossible things.
2. Do you think imagination is necessary for scientists?
I think all scientific discoveries are about looking at something from a new or
different perspective. So, imagination is certainly important for scientists. Many
would have seen an apple fall from a tree before Newton, but he was the first
one to relate it to a force.
3. What kind of jobs need imagination?
I think the biggest field with needs imagination is science. Then, another field in
which I think is being a fantasy author. A fantasy author basically puts down his
imagination on a piece of paper. I think some of the famous fantasy authors like
Tolkien or JK Rowling are some of the people with an endless imagination.
4. What subjects are helpful for people’s imagination?
I think literature can be very helpful to develop imagination. I remember reading
Alice in Wonderland was so exciting. It was my first time reading a fantasy novel

and I just couldn’t put it down. After reading each chapter, I used to think about

19.Describe a special hotel you stayed in
- Where it is
- What it is like (IELTS)
- Why you went there
- And how you felt about it
Travelling is a novel experience, whether it is done for professional purposes,
leisure or even exploration.
However, one has to stop somewhere, find a shelter, and seek a comfortable
abode, and that’s where the hotel comes into the picture.
Though in a real sense it is not mandatory to stay in a hotel, even a small room
can act as a dwelling, though owing to the facilities that we have today, staying
in hotels often becomes a memorable experience.
Once in one such journey, when I first visited the beautiful Hill station of Shimla,
I stayed in a very beautiful, comfortable and quite cosy hotel.
I would not call it a lavish hotel cause it did not belong to the category where
the upper echelons of society stay.
It was more humbling yet aesthetically beautiful.
It went by the name of “The comfort Inn” and was situated just on the upper
road of the famous mall road in Shimla.
The spot where this accommodation was situated was a peculiar one.
Firstly, because it offered one of the most breath-taking views of the Shimla
Valley.
Through one of the windows, one could gaze, without noticing the flow of time,
at the serene gradients of the mountains covered with pine trees.
Secondly, it was not very far away from the mall road and other access roads of
Shimla, which made it a convenient spot, which was the primary reason I
selected it.
Apart from the location, the structure and aesthetics of the hotel building were
beautiful.

The walls emanated a look of antiquity, and the roof was slanted as every other
building in Shimla does.
I was really happy with the way they welcomed us in the small though beautifully
decorated lobby.
The lobby was not flashy but gracefully lit and decorated with minimum art
pieces mainly carved out of wood.
When I entered my room, the interior was not loud and over-expressive but
subtle and peaceful.
The staff were courteous and adhered to my requests with the most gracious
responses.
I realized that a major reason for that trip to be memorable was the hotel, for it
made my stay comfortable, peaceful and joyful.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do the ratings of people influence their choice?
Yes, I think most people look at hotel ratings before making a reservation. I
believe it is very difficult to judge how the stay experience would be just by
looking at the hotel and room pictures.
2. How do people reserve rooms?
I think people make reservations through internet websites like Goair, Ibibo,
Trivago, Oyo etcetera. Some people also make reservations through the
telephone.
3. What influences people’s choice of hotels?
I think many factors influence people’s choices. The two main factors are the
price of the rooms and the amenities available like air conditioning, TV, locker
and so on. Internet ratings and reviews are also a major consideration
nowadays.
4. What’s the difference between hotels in your country and hotels abroad?
I don’t think there is any particular difference in hotels. Today, there are hotels
from chains like Taj, Hilton, Marriot all over the world. The design may vary
depending upon the location for example beaches, hillsides etcetera. But as
India has all these types of locations, nearly all types of hotels are available here.

20.Describe a person who wears unusual clothes
- Who is he
- How do you know him
- What kind of clothes he wears
- Why do you consider that his clothing choices are weird
It is quite obvious that the clothes people wear reflect their character and their
personality.
I mean, these are the things which we just say, but they are so true.
As far as my preference is concerned, I have always liked elegant clothes which
express and exuberate a sense of grace.
However, there are few people whose attire literally baffles me.
Sometimes, it just surprises me whereas, on the other occasions, the look just
seems abhorrent.
In recent days, a person who is known to carry one of the most unusual clothes
is the actor Ranveer Singh.
Ranveer Singh is one of the most established actors in Bollywood.
Apart from his acting prowess, he is known to dress in the most expressive
clothes possible.
He wears flashy clothes full of vibrant colours.
The shapes of his attires are uncommon and usually draw the attention of
everybody around him.
He is rarely seen in a shirt, blazer or jeans.
He often carries tailor-made apparel, which according to him, reflects his
personality.
At one of the award shows, he wore a peculiar designer wear, that closely
resembled a skirt.
His clothes are full of abstract curves unfolding into vivid patterns and
conjugated by glossy material.

I think, his preference for clothes is based on the way he wishes to express
himself.
He is full of energy and vibrance, which he thinks is what represents him.
He, therefore, deems it necessary to wear colours and clothes, which exuberate
his dynamic personality.
Personally, though his clothes are eccentric, they do carry an appeal, and they
do not appear irritating to me personally.
I would never wear the clothes he wears, but perhaps, I understand why he
wears them.
4. Do you think people are (or should be) honest all the time when they speak
to others?
5. Do you think telling lies is impolite? OR Are there any times when it might be
polite to tell a lie?
Follow-Up Questions
1. Where do Indians normally buy clothes?
Indians buy clothes from a variety of places. I think for fancy clothes people
normally shop at malls or branded shops like Zara and for day-to-day or basically
casual wear, people go to the street markets. Recently, many people have also
started buying clothes online.
2. The difference between men's and women's choices of clothes?
I think the first difference is in the shades. Men go for slightly darker and somber
shades like blue, brown, and grey, while women go for brighter colors like pink,
yellow, red, etc. Another difference is that most men prioritize comfort over
fashion, while it is vice versa in the case of women.
3. Do clothes affect people's mood?
Yes, certainly. When people feel they look good in something, they feel more
confident and this, in turn, makes them more social and talkative. The comfort
level also matters. If people feel they are uncomfortable in something, it also
affects their mood negatively.
4. What do people consider when buying clothes?

21.Describe a perfect job you would like to have in the future
You should say:
- What it is?
- How you knew it?
- What it is like?
- And explain why you think it is perfect?
I think being in a profession, for most, is a matter of earning bread. It is often
not possible for an
individual to find his passion and then start earning.
Naturally, that makes the proportion of people who work in the sector which
they truly love quite small? With time, I have also realized a particular profession
or a domain of work, to which I would like to contribute, during the later stages
of my life.
Here, I am really pleased to elaborate on the same.
Recently, before the COVID appeared, I had visited my ancestral roots in Kerala,
a beautiful state, popularly known as God’s Own Country.
I got stuck there in the rural area, and that was the first time in years, that I
found some time to appreciate the beauty of nature.
My ancestral family did farming and intrigued by the practices that people
employed there, I too experimented with a few farming practices.
To be honest, it was so pleasing to see the trajectory of the growth of plants.
I would find myself constantly visiting the location where I sowed seeds to see if
there was any sprout or not.
When it did, it made me happy, and further, I sought to have vegetables grown
on the plants.
Each day was exciting because there was something to look forward to.
I realized farming to be humbling and innately satisfying.
When I returned to my city, engaging in the daily chores and hustle-bustle of life
in a metro. I started to feel the difference.
- 57 -
For Paid Online Classes, WhatsApp on +91-7347081010.
When you farm, life appears slow to you, and hence you find more time to
appreciate life.
On the contrary, city life is fast and often raises your stress level.
Seeing the trend and the demand for organic and exotic foods, farming, if done
in a well-engineered manner, has even an economic scope today.
Realising how more people, when rising to the upper echelons of the economic
strata, would lean towards a more nutritious diet, I suppose farming has
definitely economic promises.
Considering this, I have this desire, that after I attain long financial stability, I
would be tempted to shift to a village and immerse myself in farming practices
which I think would be the most desirable profession for me.

Yes, being rich is a good thing. Rich people can help others. They can also
satisfy/fulfil all their needs.
4. Do you think people should save for the future?
Yes, people should save for the future. The future is uncertain. There should
always be some saving for the rainy days.
5. What makes a person choose a job apart from the pay it offers?
Many factors help a person choose a job. The first is money, and the second is
job satisfaction. Then there are chances of promotion. Good relations with the

22.Describe a time when you encouraged someone to do someone to do
something that he/she didn’t want to do
- You should say
- Who he or she is
- What you encouraged him/her to do
- How he/she reacted
- And explain why you encouraged him/her
I think forcing somebody to do something should not be a preference but a
necessity.
I personally do not like to indulge in exerting pressure on anybody.
I like people to form their own decisions and act accordingly.
However, sometimes, often out of the care for the people one loves, one has to
resort to forceful practices.
I would like to tell you about an instance when I had to force one of my friends
to do something which he totally resisted.
It happened about two years back when one of my best friends went through a
traumatizing break-up.
Love can be punishing sometimes, especially when love fails one’s hopes. I think
the same happened to my friend, who in the aftermath of a serious breakup,
went literally into a stage of depression.
At first, I just tried to be there for him, listening to his stories.
His daily degradation could be seen clearly, as his sleep cycle became messy, he
stopped taking a keen interest in work and even avoided meeting many of our
common friends.
As things progressed, I was confident he would fall prey to depressive episodes.
Realising this potential danger, I went to his house one day and reprimanded his
behaviour. I openly critiqued not his condition but his response.
I realized that he needed a change, and an outdoor adventure could nudge him
to recollect his thoughts and bring forth positivity in his life.

I had already booked tickets and a complete trekking tour for him, which I
thought would provide him with isolation, and an opportunity to gel with his
fellow trekkers.
Unsurprisingly, he resisted and gave myriad reasons to disapprove my idea.
I, however, did not leave my ground and kept on pressing him toward this
initiative.
I was the only one who had been there with him all along.
So, even though fuelled with frustration, he knew I meant his well-being.
I asked him to not have any apprehension regarding my plans and give it a try.
He finally agreed after an hour-long confrontation and did everything that I
asked him to.
I would like to clearly state that the plan worked out. He returned, a man with
hope, though he still needed a drastic change.
He still says that he needed that nudge, and that event has strengthened our
friendship.
I am glad that I was able to do the right thing.
Follow-Up Questions
1. How could leaders encourage their employees?
There are many ways by which leaders and managers can encourage employees
like leading through example, incentives and appreciation. I think each
individual is wired differently. So, while one method may work for some people,
it may not work for another person.
2. When should parents encourage their children?
I think parents should always encourage their children. But children need
encouragement especially if they are afraid of failing or trying out something
new. Parents should tell them that success is secondary and trying is a much
bigger achievement.
3. What kind of encouragement should parents give?
I think parents can encourage their children in many ways. If children are afraid
of embarrassment, parents can do the same thing in front of children first.

23.Describe a decision made by others/someone that you disagreed with
You should say:
- What the decision was
- How was it made
- What you disagreed with
- And explain why you disagreed with it
Sometimes a person has to go against a strong opinion if the situation really
demands it.
I usually avoid any sort of conflict; however, I vividly remember an instance
when I had to defy someone’s decision because I felt the decision to be not
conducive to the situation.
I once went on a trekking tour with four of my friends.
We had joined a trekking group just because we wished to have some guidance.
The group, which we joined, was in the third year of their trekking the same trek.
The trek, which goes by the name of Kheer-ganga, in Himachal Pradesh, was
exhilarating and adventurous.
It was a 12km long trek uphill which we had already done the previous day, and
now it was time to go downhill.
When we were mid trek, unfortunately, one of my friend’s leg slipped, and
perhaps her ligament got torn.
We were not sure about what exactly happened but she was in excruciating
pain.
What made matter worse was the snowfall which started falling on the peak and
then descended as rain onto the track, which went downhill.
Our pace slowed down to about one-fourth of what we had expected, and we
feared that we might not make the full journey and get stuck in one of the
villages that come in between.
As I had feared, when we reached the village, fearing the sun would go down in
an hour, the leader of our group suggested we stay in the village while everyone
else needed to get down.
- 62 -
For Paid Online Classes, WhatsApp on +91-7347081010.
When I assessed the situation, I was sure that the village might get clad in the
snow by night and perhaps very cold for my friend to bear the pain, at a place
where medical facilities might not be available.
I knew we had to get down.
I objected to the advice of the leader to which he replied that we were slowing
down their descend.
At that point, I talked to my friends and convinced them that we could make it
down to the start if we tried together.
It was our responsibility to take care of our friend, and staying there did not
make things any better.
They all agreed.
We were early to leave the village, fearing our slow pace, while the other team,
though left late, went passed us quite quickly.
The leader did not have any objection to my decision.
On the contrary, he appreciated it.
While he was passing by me, he expressed that he just wanted the better of
many out of a single person.
I could understand it, as it was a leader’s decision. However, it would have left
my friend in a cold village amidst a facility ridden place, which I was never going
to allow to happen.
With proper co-ordination, we travelled quite late into the night, contrary to
what people prefer there.
However, it was not unsafe because we had already passed the forest and were
into a more open area.
Finally, we were able to make it and to all my friend’s relief we found a doctor
soon to get my friend treated.

decision makes sense, and also whether it feels right. A good decision requires
a good insight into what all the outcomes of that decision could be. It needs

2. How can people improve their decision-making skills?
With experience, the decision-making skills automatically improve. People are
just having to keep in mind, what all outcomes could be, and also be ready to
face the consequences, whatever they are.
3. How do you think computers will change the way people make decisions?
Computers can change the way people make decisions, as now through
computers, people can post their dilemmas in many forums and take advise
from other people who have faced similar situations.
4. Do parents in India allow their children to make important decisions about
the future?
No, parents in India generally like to make important decisions about the future
of their children. They like to have their say when their child has to choose
his/her future career, and also when he/she has to choose his/her life partner.
5. Do you think that parents should make important decisions for their
children?
I think parents should have a healthy discussion with their children when they
have to make an important decision, and then let the child have the final say.

24.Describe a time when you felt bored
- You should say:
- When it was
- Who you were with
- What you were doing
- Why you felt bored
As humans, we need some sort of stimulation. It binds our attention and hooks
us to something, keeping us away from the fact that time can be excruciatingly
difficult to pass sometimes.
Today, I am going to speak about an instance where I found myself totally bland
and bored for a considerable amount of time.
It was when I visited the beautiful hill station of Shimla. I used to live in the green
city, Chandigarh, those days.
Shimla is only a four-hour drive from Chandigarh, so out of a desire to see the
beautiful mist-clad mountains during the monsoon, I had gone there.
After a good two-day trip, I was halfway on my route to return. Suddenly, I saw
from a distance this long snake-like coiled traffic line.
Soon my car became one of the links in that chain.
I waited for about 15 minutes, but the car ahead of me did not move an inch.
Even though it was not visible, it did not take a long time to realise that the
curving traffic line must be stretching miles ahead perhaps, owing to a landslide.
I was sitting alone in the car.
The first few minutes were okay.
I played nice music and surfed my mobile, trying to see the updates on various
social media sites.
However, after about half an hour, it started itching to move out of the car.
But it was tricky as the traffic could move anytime.
I attempted to shift my attention towards episodes of a thriller series that I was
watching those days.
But to my dismay, after just one hour, I was back to being bored.

When I was left with nothing that could engage my attention, it started taking a
toll on me.
I did not want to sit in the same spot, so I got out of the car and stood on the
side of the road in the hope of enjoying the mountains.
But it was getting dark, and the view of the mountains was fading quickly.
The evening though good, was becoming hard to pass by.
Soon it became dark, and I felt bored again.
Surprisingly, I started feeling melancholic, and I knew I had to do something.
At that moment the traffic started moving, and I quickly got back to my car,
started the engine and started moving.
I still wonder what would have happened if I had stayed there for longer.
Follow-Up Questions
1. When do people feel bored?
Most of the time people feel bored when there is no change in their routine and
they are doing the same thing over and over again. Boredom happens due to
monotony in life. Sometimes, it may also depend on an individual’s mood or if a
person does not find interest in the things, he/she is doing.
2. What can people do when they feel bored?
People can do a lot of things when they are bored. They can watch a good movie,
listen to some nice music or go for a walk. They can also talk to their loved one’s
or may be play a game with them. Basically, they should try to do something
different than usual.
3. Do people get bored about daily routines?
Definitely yes, I think it is the leading cause for boredom. There are numerous
examples when people get bored because of daily routines. For instance, I
cannot eat homecooked food for more than 5 days in a row, it makes me feel
like that life is dull and there is no fun. Similarly, the weekend brings a nice
change from the boring monotony of weekdays.
4. Is it easier for younger people to feel bored than for the old?

I believe so, it could be due to the fact that old people are more experienced
and patient as compared to young ones. They have seen most of the things in
life so they do not have high expectations, whereas the young ones, especially
today’s generation is always looking for something to feed their mind. They
easily become bored if they don’t get something new.

25.Describe the time when you had to sing a song or a poem in front of public
- Where were you
- What did you sing
- How did you feel
I deeply appreciate people who can speak on stage fearlessly.
Stage fright is a real thing and especially when one is asked to perform on stage.
I too was forced into this spot once during a friend’s wedding reception about
which I am happy to speak today.
One of my best friends just had gotten married, and I, with many of my friends,
was attending his marriage celebration.
It was a festive atmosphere, where many of my old friends had gathered.
We were joking around, reminiscing our childhood and meeting new people too.
Soon, my friend asked for everybody’s attention, and out of the blue, announced
that I had to sing in front of the whole crowd on the stage.
I was baffled because even though I hum or sometimes sing at home, I never
sang to an audience, even at family gatherings or small get-togethers of friends.
I looked at him with a mixed expression of anger and helplessness.
He smiled at me and just waved his hand, gesturing me to take the stage.
To my surprise, everybody hearing my name started cheering it encouraging me
to do it.
I somehow gathered the courage to go to the stage and took the mic from my
friend, silently cursing him a word or two, to which he laughed as friends always
do.
Even though it was my first experience, I did not feel nervous.
I was just confused about which song to choose.
At that particular moment, I remembered one of my favourite songs, which got
released just two years back in a Hindi film.
The song was melodious, slow and suited my voice.
I did not think much and went ahead, starting with the chorus and then moving
to the main stanzas.

I did not intend to sing the full song, but it was surprising to see the people
smiling at me. I realized they were not mocking me but enjoying my song, which
motivated me to continue.
As soon as I finished the song, a huge round of applause followed.
A few people even stood, and my close friends whistled and shouted.
I was overwhelmed at such a response and later thanked my friend for giving
me such a wonderful opportunity.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do teenagers and adults enjoy the same kind of songs?
It depends on the personal taste. Generally speaking, teenagers like songs with
fast beats and adults like songs with good lyrics and soft music.
2. What are the factors that make people like a song?
A song should have good lyrics, a good composition, a pleasing voice and a good
video to be liked by people.
3. On which occasions do people in your country sing together?
In my country, people sing together on birthday parties, marriages,
anniversaries and national holidays like the Independence Day and so on.
4. Which kinds of songs are suitable for children? Why?
I think folk songs are very suitable for children because they keep children
connected to them
culture and traditions. As it is, today’s children are following the global culture
and so, they
need to be kept in touch with the traditional culture. Folk songs are a good way
to connect
with our culture.
5. Do you often (like to) sing?
Yes, I like to sing, but as my singing abilities are not pretty good so I sing only in
the bathroom or when I am alone.

26.Describe a piece of international news that you have recently heard
- What the news was about
- Where and when you heard it
- What you were doing when you heard it
- Explain how you feel about this news
The rise of the internet has narrowed the cross-country boundaries. The
addition of smartphones
later has added portability to the internet making the news even more readily
available.
International news often is very dynamic in nature because of the cross-country
aspects that it contains and hence often turns out to be intriguing.
However, I never imagined that a piece of news could plunge me into deep
thought and consideration.
Recently, I experienced this phenomenon when I heard about the Russia-
Ukraine War.
I guess nobody would have believed that the world would find itself amidst a
major war outbreak just two months back.
However, when Russia finally invaded Ukraine, it shocked the whole world as
it was the first major war in Europe after the second world war.
One fine morning, while having breakfast, I was reading the news. The tensions
had been rising a
few days before between the two countries. Scrolling the pages, I saw a news
feed declaring the start of the war.
Immediately I switched to YouTube to see the latest happenings. To my surprise,
it had finally occurred.
To be very honest, if we keep the political dynamics or the geopolitical issues
aside, war is never good, not only for the two countries involved but also for
every other country that is directly or indirectly connected to those countries.
It saddened me that even with so much knowledge and awareness about the
bloodshed in history, we still have not developed lasting peace.
- 70 -
For Paid Online Classes, WhatsApp on +91-7347081010.
There is no doubt that a war is economically taxing and emotionally
traumatizing.
The wounds after a war do not heal so quickly.
It is foolish then for countries to not look for diplomatic means to solve
geopolitical issues.
Moreover, as a direct consequence of war, the expenditure on defence
increases in individual countries, thereby shifting a huge amount of money from
the sectors such as health care and education.
More than deciding who is right or who is wrong, I was concerned about these
damages. Being in the 21st century requires every citizen of the world to be
sensitive toward anything which destroys the general wellbeing of any country,
and I felt the same about this event.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Do people communicate more when they talk face to face?
I think yes. People do communicate more when they face to face. It easier and
much less time consuming to have a verbal conversation than a written one.
Thus, conversation do tend to stretch out when talking face to face.
2.What do young people have conversations about?
Young people have conversations about different topics like sports, movies,
celebrities, fashion, technology, business and education opportunities.
Personally, I love talking about cricket and the latest technological gadgets with
my friends.
3. Do people converse more or less than the past?
I think today we are busier than the past. So, we have less time for
conversations. Also, our hobbies have changed from social to individual and
thus, in effect, we have less opportunities for conversations. For example, today
we stream TV shows on OTT platforms like Netflix alone instead of watching TV
together with family.
4. Do you think we need to be good at communication at the workplace?
Yes, I think it is absolutely necessary to communicate clearly at the workplace.
If people don’t get their message across clearly, it can lead confusions and
misunderstanding and it can lead to big losses for the companies. Also,

27.Describe an interesting conversation that you had
- Who you had it with
- Where did you have it
- What was the conversation and why did you have it
The most simple and effective way in which we acquire knowledge is simply by
having conversations.
I like to conversate a lot. I like when I talk to somebody about something that I
am unaware of. It helps me to narrow down the knowledge gap that I have, and
it also, in a way, creates an effective bond of communication. Often, I find some
conversations so intriguing that I am just left baffled,
fascinated or excited like a kid. One of such conversations happened quite
recently, which has grabbed my attention since then.
My cousin is studying Computer Science, and he is quite aware of the
technological developments that are happening nowadays.
We met several days ago, at my house when he stayed over for a few days.
One day we were sitting, and I just asked about the latest tech developments.
Our conversation hopped from one topic to another and finally reached the
concept of Metaverse.
I was aware of the word “Metaverse”, as just a few days ago, it featured in one
or two newsfeeds on my mobile.
I did not pay much attention to it. However, when my cousin explained to me
what Metaverse actually was, I was just thrilled to know more about it.
From what I understood, Metaverse is a platform of augmented reality, in other
words, a social media platform where people can meet, interact and do several
other kinds of stuff virtually through their virtual reality sets.
The concept raised my excitement because it just makes distance irrelevant.
Though, seeing the avatars that my cousin showed me, I was not much excited
and thought why would anybody like to talk to a figure like that.
But my cousin further explained the pace at which digital or virtual face
technologies are progressing.
- 73 -
For Paid Online Classes, WhatsApp on +91-7347081010.
Through a few quite advanced platforms it was apparent that the animated
figures that now seem so cartoonish may soon turn into beautiful virtual avatars
similar to what we see in animated movies.
I was instantly drawn to so many consequences of it. The way we now get
attracted to people could change completely.
Also, people might get disconnected from the real world to a large extent.
What if people find the reality too boring to spend time in. Such questions
started rushing into my mind.
Moreover, the possibility of revenue generation did not even pass my mind only
until later.
Then it hit me that the marketing industry could also witness a complete
transformation.
As there can be infinite layers of screens in a single portal.
After talking about Metaverse for about an hour, my head was so full of ideas
that I decided to think about these things first and then move to any other ideas
later.
It was indeed a fascinating conversation.

28.Describe a computer/phone game you enjoy playing since your childhood
What the game is about
When you started playing it
How often you play this game
Why you enjoy playing it
I think, since the mobile came, the way people play games has completely
changed.
I am unapologetically a game nerd, though I like very few games.
I play different games from first-person shooter games to story games.
But there is one game that has always been on my mobile.
It made me fall in love with the games and still has not lost my interest.
It goes by the name of – “Subway Surfer”. It all started when I was sitting with
my cousins.
At that time mobile phones were evolving fast, but not as much as now, of
course.
One of my cousins was totally immersed in his screen. Curiously I asked him, and
he showed me the screen while still playing.
I saw a boy on a surfboard, dodging trains that were coming his way.
There were three tracks, and at one particular time, the boy had the option of
switching to at least one unoccupied track.
The game graphics were eye catchy and really vibrant.
The game had the dexterity to catch the attention of a 4-year-old kid and a 55-
year-old woman too. On top of that, it was a game in which one could post a
high score as a challenge which raised the excitement even more.
My cousin scored quite well in it and asked me if I could beat his score. I took
the challenge on, and the game, in just a few minutes, was already addictive.
Being seasoned and more experienced in the game, I could not top his score.
However, the game stuck with me.
It is the only game from which I have never taken a break. Whenever I am bored
or just have a few minutes to spare, I often open it and play it.

I think perhaps what appeals to me about the game is its ability to consistently
engage.
Also, the fact that it is not a game where there is any stage, one could go on and
on, or one could also stop anywhere one wants.
Hence, I think this has made this game so engaging for me personally. Let us see
if I ever uninstall it or not. (a small laugh).
Follow-Up Questions
1. What is the impact of teen addiction to games?
I think there are both positive and negative impacts of video games on
teenagers. The positive part is that it helps them to relax and take out the stress
from their studies. Also, to some extent, it aids in the development of creative
or problem-solving skills. On the contrary, gaming is easily addictive and too
much of it can be detrimental for their health and education. Finally, the violent
content in some games could promote violent behaviour amongst children.
2. Should parents or teachers take necessary action to prevent children from
playing games?
I do not think that parents should stop children from playing computer games,
but I believe that it is important for them to supervise the gaming habits of their
children. They should monitor the number of hours and type of games being
played by the children. If the child is getting addicted to gaming then they should
counsel him/her.
3. What do you think are the benefits of playing games?
Like I mentioned before, gaming helps in a lot of ways. First of all, it helps in the
development of logical reasoning when children try to solve the challenges in
different levels of the game. Secondly, it promotes creativity amongst children
as most of the games are based on imaginary concepts and the characters in
these games are able to do things that would be otherwise impossible in the real
world. So, I think it kind of helps in developing out-of-the-box thinking.
4. Why games have been popular amongst teenagers in recent years?
I think there are multiple reasons why gaming culture has become more popular
of late. The biggest reason would definitely be the easy access to free games on
mobile devices. Earlier, in order to enjoy gaming, people had to buy expensive
gaming consoles and the quality of the games was also not that good. But,

29.Describe your favourite weather
- What kind of weather it is
- When this weather usually occurs
- What you usually do during this weather
- Explain how this weather affects you
- And explain why you like this type of weather.
It is no secret that weather affects one’s mood.
Being in India, I experience three major seasons, and quite frankly, I have a
strong opinion regarding all of them.
It is plain and simple, as far as summer is concerned.
I hate it. Summer is hot and frustrating. It becomes a hell to travel, and I see
angry faces everywhere.
The winter, on the other hand, is ‘Cool’ (Pun intended) however, it does not
inspire me to rise out of the bed and appreciate the weather.
This leaves monsoon – my favourite season.
The weather of breezes, green leaves and dark clouds.
For some, the monsoon appears to be dark and spoils their plans. I, on the
contrary, relish it like anything.
I like to get drenched completely, and do not mind going for a smooth ride in
the rain.
Whenever the dark clouds come and promise a healthy spray, I just go to my
terrace and enjoy what the rains express to me.
I also like the fact that the monsoon makes everything green.
During that season I can see the green lush grass everywhere, which fills me with
joy and happiness.
I think we should have greener in the world; I mean living green in the form of
trees and leaves.
This makes the monsoon and the rain it brings special for me.

1. Do you often pay attention to the weather forecast? (Why? /Why not?)
Yes, I pay attention to the weather forecast on a regular basis. The reason is I
travel a lot and it becomes necessary to know about the weather to be prepared
in advance. Also, climate change has made the weather unpredictable. It
sometimes rains even in the dry season as such knowing the weather on a day-
to-day basis has become a necessity.
2. How does the weather (or, the weather forecast) affect what activities
people do?
People prefer to stay indoors on hot sunny days or rainy days and go out for
picnics on pleasant days. Also, there are things we like to eat in certain weather
– for example, fritters on rainy days, ice creams on warm days, etc. It also affects
the clothing patterns. People wear light-coloured loose cotton dresses in
summers and dark warm clothes in cold weather.
3. (Similar to above) How does the weather affect people’s daily lives?
4. Why do some people dislike some kinds of weather?
I think it’s because the weather can limit people’s activities. If the weather
restricts people from enjoying their favourite activity, it can make them dislike
that weather. My friend hates rainy days because he likes to play cricket and he
can’t do that because of the rain.
5. Do people wear different clothes in different types of weather (or, different
seasons)?
(Same as 2)
6. Does the weather have an effect on the economy?
Yes, the weather affects our economy. For example, due to milder winters, a lot
of people from cold northern countries visit us during that time. Thus, it
promotes tourism. Also, certain weather like hot sunny days boosts the earning
of local ice cream vendors. Similarly, winters boost the jackets and sweaters
industry.
7. (Similar but different) (In your country), are there any differences in
economic activity in the different seasons?

industry gets a boost in the winter season. Similarly, farming is also dependent

30.Describe something important that has been kept in your family for a long
time.
You should say
- What is it?
- When your family had it?
- How your family got it?
- And explain why it is important for your family
Perhaps, everybody has the habit of keeping stuff that they really like, love or
feel has a meaning in their life.
In my family, the prized possession is an old motor scooter which was my dad’s
first two- wheeler.
I feel nostalgic and quite pleased to speak about it today.
At one time, our house did not have any sort of vehicle. The conveyance was
usually public transport or by foot.
My dad used a bus to get to his office.
I was a kid back then and had not attended school yet, and my mother, who
usually looked after household work, often used to go to the market on foot,
taking me with her.
Once when I was going with her, I saw my neighbour getting his two-wheeler
out, as he was about to go somewhere.
Intrigued, I asked my mother why we did not have a scooter. She smiled and
replied that we would have it someday.
To my surprise, just a few days later, I saw my father returning from his office
on a brand new LML Vespa scooter which was one of the best ones on the
market.
I was elated in an instant as he revealed it was ours. Years later, it was revealed,
as a backstory, that my father bought the two- wheeler after hearing from my
mother about my question. Nevertheless, the scooter became our everything.
We used it to go to every place possible from market, office, festival
celebrations, relatives and even school when I eventually started attending it.

Now, we have a car and two modern scooters but still, my father looks after that
old, vintage, LML Vespa.
On a particular Sunday morning, my dad would be near it, washing and cleaning
it.
Surprisingly it has become a medium to go back to my childhood and have
nostalgic discussions.
That is why I think it is not a mere vehicle for conveyance, but a souvenir, our
family’s souvenir.
It has breath-taking views and fresh air.
You could easily like a place to kick back and relax.
In fact, I have strongly recommended this place to many friends.
It’s definitely worth visiting.
Follow-Up Questions
1. Which do you think are better, old things or new things?
Well, it is very difficult to answer this question. In some ways old things are
better, such as jewellery of the old times has better designs, some of which
cannot be replicated now. As far as the technological gadgets are concerned,
new things are far better than the old ones.
2. As well as family photographs, what are some other things that people keep
in their family for a long time?
Apart from family photographs, some people keep the old jewellery for a long
time. Some people like to collect old coins, a hobby called numismatics.
3. In your culture, what sorts of things do people often pass down from
generation to generation? (Why?)
In my culture people pass down Jewellery from generation to generation. Some
articles of clothing are also passed from generation to generation.

my great grandmother. Now I take this stole on special functions in the family
and every time I receive compliments.

Special days have a lot of importance in a person’s life.
A person could gain happiness by celebrating these kinds of days a special day
may be marriage, birthday party, a farewell party or any other function.
It adds to the happiness of a person’s life.
Today I would like to talk about a special day that I celebrated with my friends
when I was doing B.tech from Amity University, Noida.
It was the last year of our course.
My birthday was on November 12th and our exams were scheduled for Feb.
So, it was the last month of our study and after that, we have to come back to
our home.
So, all my friends decided to celebrate my birthday.
I decided to celebrate my birthday in Friction because it was a beautiful place to
visit.
We were all 7 friends.
When we entered the bar, there were beautiful lighting and music all-around of
different varieties.
There was an artificial flower that presents a scenic view of nature.
After wandering in the bar for some time, I cut the cake and we all enjoyed the
delicious cake, my friends brought some starters and drank some beverages and
I thanked them for it.
We also ordered some food for dinner because, on my birthday, there was a
discount on all food.

- What it is?
- When do you do it?

- How does it help you concentrate?
Concentration is needed when you are working on an important project.
Focus can take things to another level.
While noise can affect work.
Creative work, artistic work, painting, photography, architecture, and high-level
designing work needs a lot of concentration.
Doctors, teachers, trainers, and music composers also need to concentrate
when they are performing important tasks.
Modern people going to forget the importance of concentration, consistency,
dedication, and ford work.
But all these things are necessary to become a successful person, so the need of
the time is that a person should learn how to become concentrate, consistent,
dedicated, and hard worker.
One thing which became famous among the people of the world to achieve all
these things is meditation.
Here I am going to talk about a thing that helps me in my work.
The first thing I need when I am working in silence.
It helps me to focus and do my work so I prefer to work alone when there is no
one around me.
This disconnects me from the outer world and distracts me.
For my entertainment, I prefer to listen to light classical music. This helps me
keep working for long hours with full attention.
I do this activity when I am working on a creative design.
In this silence, I can dive into my thoughts and come up with marvellous ideas.
Music helps me stay connected to art and inspires me to think uniquely.

I always prefer to listen to light instrumental music without any lyrics.
This keeps me entertained and enhances my work.
Especially I don't feel alone when I am working with music.
I have read about great artists who practiced this kind of exercise and they got

When I joined my college/ from that time I started doing this activity and did all

I also keep reading about various other ways in the media but this works.

Describe an experience about moving to a new school or house
- Why did you change your school/college?
- When was it?
- Was that helpful?
- What were the consequences after that?
There is no denying that change is the only thing that is permanent in this world.
Being humans, we have this uncanny knack for trying to resist change.
However hard we try; it makes inroads in our lives.
I had such a situation in my 6th standard, where I had to change my school.
From the countryside, we had moved to the heart of the city. Due to that, I
changed school.
The reason for this change was the transfer of my father.
He used to work with a bank, and due to his immense contribution to the bank's
growth, he got promoted to the rank of the bank manager.
And he was given the charge of a new branch opening up in the city, when my
father had told me about this, I went into a state of depression.
The main reason for the sadness was my friend circle, I had too many friends in
the school, and I used to share good camaraderie with them.
However, I didn’t have any option but to leave the school.
When I joined my new school, I remained upset for one week. However, after
some days, I started liking my new school, and I made new friends.
I started enjoying my stint because I managed to expand my social circle.
On the one hand, I was in touch with my old school friends through social media,
and on the other hand, I made new friends in my new school.
Moreover, the infrastructure and the facilities in the new school were better
than in the old school.

35. Describe a person you follow on social media
You should say:
- Who he/she is
- How do you know him/her
- What he/she posts on social media
- And explain why you follow him/her on social media
In the technological era, people not only watch their favourite stars but also
follow them on different platforms of social media such as Instagram, Facebook,
etc.
This helps people to follow the latest trends set by these stars and also helps the
celebrities to influence the mass audience.
I follow several people on social media but the person I like the most is Dr.
Hakeem Oluseyi who is an astrophysicist and a TV personality.
I follow him on Instagram and Twitter as well as on other platforms, and there
are several reasons behind this.
Firstly, being a science student, I like watching TV shows and documentaries
related to science.
Hakeem Olyseyi is one such presenter of science-related shows such as You Have
Been Warned, etc.
His anchoring and explaining skills of several phenomena of astrophysics
encouraged me to study more and more about astrophysics.
I started following him a few years ago.
I, once, e-mailed him about my interest in science and how much I liked his
show.
After 1 or two days I got his reply stating just like a great scientist helped him to
achieve his goal, he is also ready to help the candidates having extraordinary
potential.
He, then, guided me and told me to complete my studies and contact him again.
His humbleness, modesty, simpleness, honesty, and kindness attracted me to
him.

I follow all of his posts and tweets and even listen to his live lectures. Moreover,
as he lends a helping hand to emerging scientists, he is becoming popular among
physicists.
He influences a lot of people and also writes books on astrophysics from a
beginner's point of view up to an advanced level.
I look forward to following him in the future, too, and becoming able to influence
others.

36. Describe an introverted person whom you know.
You should say:
- Who the person is?
- How well do you know him/her?
- What makes him/her introverted?
- And explain how you feel about this person?
Although I have many buddies who are extroverts, my bosom friend is an
introvert.
He is my friend and neighbour, Andrew.
Being childhood friends, we have strong bonding and he can express himself in
front of me.
We do our academic work and projects together.
Since childhood, we have played together and celebrated all the festivals with
each other.
Our parents are family friends.
I have suggested many things.
I motivate him to make friends.
Make him watch motivational videos.
I even talk about different shades of personality.
I want him to take part and do some volunteer work in the community so he
gets the opportunity to make conversation with others.
I have made enough efforts to make him like me and to an extent, I have
succeeded but I am not successful at changing him.
We are all-weather friends, and we provide each other with unabated support,
whether it is a purple patch or lean patch going on in our lives.
Moreover, we know each other's strengths and weaknesses, and due to this
reason, we usually spend our weekends together so that we can improve
ourselves by taking feedback from each other.

He is an introvert because he has this uncanny knack for spending his free time
in solitude.
According to him, when he talks to people for a long time, he loses his willpower,
and his performance at his work and his study declines.
Moreover, he remains busy throughout the day, and he researches new topics
in his field of study.
His habit of doing tasks with determination, dedication, and discipline leaves less
time at his disposal to interact with others.
I feel good about him because his introverted nature helps him handle conflicts
adroitly. Because he never indulges in unnecessary discussions and arguments.
Moreover, the career he has opted for doesn't require him to interact with
clients.
Therefore, his introverted nature is not affecting his work performance.
His central focus always remains on his work, and there is no denying this
conviction that his introverted nature would lead his career towards an
impressive growth trajectory.

37. Describe a difficult decision that you once made.

Difficult decisions and challenges are part of life and at various levels, we have
to face them with dignity.
The most difficult thing you do late on becomes your strength and makes you
rock solid.
Those who step back from difficulty cannot lead a successful life and face
setbacks.
Whatever difficulty comes in our path we should fight and come out like a
lightning knight.
Here I am going to talk about the most difficult decision I made regarding my
health and It was about my weight loss.
I used to live a completely sedentary lifestyle which included eating fast foods
and ready-to-eat meals.
And playing video games due to less movement and physical exercise I became
obese and my weight reached above a hundred and I started facing difficulties
in my health.
This was good advice from health experts I started the first sign of my difficulty
and with taking the necessary steps.
I made this decision when I consulted My family doctor.
He advised me to live an active lifestyle and eat a balanced diet regularly and he
also gave me a strict health regime to follow. Food is a weakness and to stay
away from my favourite dishes is near impossible for me.
But for the sake of my health, I agreed to do whatever is needed.
I was advised to do swimming and regular physical exercise which was difficult
in the beginning.

this decision with the advice of my friends and relatives.
It was a very different decision as I needed to follow a diet plan and strict regime

Before I had difficulty walling and after I was running my bones and muse
became stronger.
I was feeling confident again and even started taking part in outdoor games.

- How this person became famous

Most start-up enthusiasts like me grow up idolizing business tycoons and
entrepreneurs such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, Elon Musk,
Ambani, etc.
But here I would like to talk about Sir Ratan tata - the present Chairman Emeritus
of Tata Sons, the Philanthropist, and son of Jamshedji Tata.
Born in the Tata family, he understood the work ethic and importance of hard
work early in life.
He never took his wealth for granted and still works actively at the age of 75.
Sir Ratan Tata dedicated his life to the betterment of society and took the Tata
Group of Companies to new heights.
Last year, I had an opportunity to meet him under my company's community
outreach program.
Then, out of curiosity, I started reading his biography.
He is the most humble and down-to-earth human being I have ever met.
Mr. Tata was the chairman of major Tata companies, including Tata Motors, Tata
Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Power, Tata Global Beverages, Tata
Chemicals, Indian Hotels, and Tata Teleservices.
He is also associated with various organizations in India and overseas.
Mr. Tata is on the international advisory boards of Mitsubishi Corporation

Richest

39. Describe a course that impressed you a lot
You should say:
- What the course was about
- Where you took the course
- What you did do during the course
- And explain why it impressed you a lot
Learning is essential to our existence. Just like food nourishes our bodies,
knowledge nourishes our minds.
So today, I would love to describe an impressive course that I took last year.
The course was about Personality Development.
It aims to raise a basic awareness about the significance of soft skills in
professional and interpersonal communications and facilitate the all-around
development of personality.
I had been an introvert and had trouble communicating with people.
That’s why I decided to join the course to improve my personality.
I took an online course offered by the University of California.
Sessions were conducted on 'Skype' thrice a week – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and
Saturdays.
The course started with a basic introduction to personality. It then went deeper
into various theories of personality development, the stages of self-
development, and the main influences on personality.
To master the art of expressing my thoughts and feelings, I had to deliver a
presentation in every session.
I also met a lot of industry experts during the course to know how they nurtured
their personalities.
By the time I completed the course I found myself happier and
more content than ever.
It impressed me because the professors had perspicacious wisdom and earthy
humor.

There had been interactive sessions that were demonstrated through personal
examples.
The course also offered thousands of networking opportunities.
I was an individual with a pessimist attitude who finds a problem in every
situation.
Now rather than cribbing and criticizing people around, I analyse the whole
situation and try to find an appropriate solution.
This impressive course has taught me to look at the brighter sides of life and face
even the worst situations with a smile.
In the end, I would say that there is no substitute for hard work when it comes
to improving your life skills.
The sooner we understand it, the better for us.
We should think about how to draw a road map, join a course, and work towards
our goal every day.

40. Describe a city that you think is very interesting
You should say:
Where it is
What it is famous for
How do you know this city?
And explain why you think it is very interesting
The world is full of beautiful and interesting cities.
Most cities are famous for their attractive culture.
Thank you for choosing this interesting topic for me because I love to learn and
talk about interesting places around the world.
One such tremendously interesting place, in my humble opinion, is New York
City.
Now, please don't get me wrong as I have nothing against London, Paris, Tokyo,
or Rio de Janeiro, but I have always struggled to understand why people would
prefer these cities over New York City.
To me, New York City undoubtedly is the “capital” of this world since there is
just something for everybody here.
Of course, I must admit that I have visited this city only once for a week, but
after learning so much about it from my visit and my friends (living there), TV
programs, movies, newspapers and travel magazines, I think that I know a lot
more about this city than the people who live in there.
Now, you are probably thinking I am just bluffing here, but I am not! For
example, I know it is famous for "the statue of liberty" standing tall in the
Hudson River, which had arrived as a gift from France!
By the way, this city, home to 80 million people, is also famous for some of the
world’s tallest Skyscrapers, and the world’s largest gold reserve.
Besides, the incredibly fast pace of this place, the buzzing traffic, the hustle and
bustle of the people from all over the world, the 24-hour life, and the creative
spirit are also some of the things which make this city famous as well.

But, apart from all these things, what makes this city even more interesting to
me is that it is undoubtedly the most linguistically diverse city in the world where
800 languages are spoken.
In other words, there isn't even a single country in this world whose citizens
don't live in this mega city or haven't lived here at some point in time since its
birth of it!
Besides, the positive vibe and energy it creates among its citizens, no matter
where they come from, transcends all kinds of national and cultural barriers.

41. Describe an activity that you usually do that wastes your time
- What it is
- When you usually do it
- Why do you do it
- And explain why you think it wastes your time.
Well, life has become extremely fast and busy, and people often complain that
they are short on time, yet we waste a lot of time intentionally or
unintentionally.
Here I would like to talk about an activity that I do regularly, and it wastes my
hours easily.
The fact is that I am quite active on social media, which is more like a weed these
days.
It is a more practical way to remain in touch with friends and relatives as it saves
a lot of time and energy when compared to meeting others personally. But
sometimes, I feel I waste too much time on this.
Firstly, I have a huge network of friends who are active on different apps like
Whatsapp, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, and others, and for their sake, I always
have to remain active on these platforms.
In addition, people sometimes share posts unduly and always expect others to
comment, and a few of my friends are so obsessed that they get angry with me
if I don't comment in time.
Similarly, every second day is someone’s birthday, and I have to spare time to
wish them.
Moreover, these platforms are bombarded with extremely tempting
advertisements, and once I get on these sites to check anything, I end up wasting
a lot of time.
I feel very bad because now I am kind of addicted to using these platforms.
I can utilize this time more productively than I waste here unduly.
So, this is an activity that I do regularly, which wastes a lot of my time of mine.

42. Describe someone you like to spend time with
You should say:
- Who this person is
- How do you know him/her
- What you usually do together
- And explain why you like to spend time with him/her
Irrespective of our age, gender, or relationship, we all have our favourite
people with whom we enjoy spending our time.
So, once again, it’s my adoring mom with whom I try to spend time as possible,
even though she can’t always make herself accessible to me due to her
household duties.
As for me, I love spending my time with my mother the gentle and caring
woman who was required to carry me almost for ten months in her womb and
raised me for nearly 21 years to help me grow into a proper girl by having to
endure all kinds of pain and agony.
When she does have time for me, however, we do things together like watch
funny TV programs or bake new kinds of cakes using our recipes.
We also go to the supermarket together on occasion, which is one of my
favorite parts to do on weekends, to buy some fruits and vegetables.
By the manner, we get to do these things on most weekends and during other
holiday seasons because that’s when I don’t have to be concerned about going
to school or doing schoolwork.
And, when it comes to my studies, she is so invested in my education that she
sits with me on occasion to observe what I study!
Now, if you ask why I enjoy spending time with my dear mother, I will tell you
that she makes me feel very safe and appreciated, even when I make mistakes.
I enjoy spending time with her because she tries to teach me a lot about life’s
“realities”, as to whether she has a response to everything, no matter how
difficult life or circumstances become.

I love traveling and always visit new places whenever I have time.
I have visited many places. Some are famous for their history and culture, while
others are famous for their fascinating architecture.
Today I would like to talk about a recently visited location on the south side of
India.
Last year I went to Karnataka during the summer vacation.
Visited Mysore Palace. Also known as Amba Vilas Palace.
Royal Palace (house) in Mysore, Karnataka, India.
The place is in the centre of Mysore, facing east Chamundi Hills.
One college teacher is from Karnataka. She told me about the beauty of the
place, so I went there.
In addition, Mysore Palace is one of India’s most famous tourist attractions after
the Taj Mahal, with more than 6 million visitors annually.
The architectural style of the palace dome, commonly referred to as the Indian
spiral, is a mixture of Hindu, Mughal, Rajput, and Gothic styles.
A three-story stone building with a marble dome and a 145-foot five-story
tower.
The palace is surrounded by a large garden.
The roof artwork is great. The artists had worked perfectly.
I was surprised at the beauty of the place.
I suggested my friends visit the palace.

You should Say:
- When and where it happened
- How long you were in the traffic jam
- What you did do while waiting
- And explain how you felt when you were in that traffic jam.
Today we see everyday dreams to have a vehicle and the population is

Commuting for work, leisure, and education is becoming common and private
vehicles are used in huge amounts.
This situation creates stress on the road and people end up in traffic jams.
Here, I am going to talk about a situation when I got stuck in a traffic jam.
Getting stuck in traffic is a common phenomenon and it happens now and then.
People get stuck every day but when one gets stuck in an emergency kind of
situation then it affects them.
I got stuck recently when I needed to reach for an exam and I was late by 20 min
near the crossing where there was a huge traffic jam.
I was already on time from my home but due to election and VIP movements in
the city there were too many diversions so this created lot of traffic on my route
and I was stuck for nearly an hour.
I did nothing but wait and tried to call my friends and get information about
alternate routes and one of my friends helped guide me with an alternative way
to the exam centre.
I got irritated and then I started to listen to music and I tried to keep my mind
stress free so I can sit fresh in the exam and give my best.
It was a very irritating experience.
Everybody was just honking and making unnecessary noise and some vehicles
were emitting bad smoke which made breathing difficult for 10 min.
Thankfully a police officer came and managed the traffic and everyone felt a
sense of relief.

India is blessed with multiple rivers to nourish its lands. India is a land of
countless rivers, lakes, and beaches which plays a part and parcel in nurturing it.
Today, I would like to speak about one very important river flowing in India and
that is the river Ganga, which people sometimes also called the Ganges.
It is considered a divine river and treated similarly to a Goddess amongst the
Hindus.
It has significant myths associated with Hindu culture.
It is said that by taking a dip into the river's water one can get relieved of the
sins they have committed in the past.
Its water is available throughout the year making the plains of India one of the
most fertile flood plains in the world.
Not only the plains but also the bank of the river is highly fertile and people
harvest golden crops.
The water of the River Ganga is widely used for agricultural purposes.
Ganga had been a huge help in the tremendous prosperity and economic
progress of India.
All these features made this river bliss for India and its countrymen.

Life is filled with numerous desired as well as sudden events.
People are to form different habits in different parts of their lives and life
changes are inevitable.
Here, I am going to talk about a significant change that happened in my life.
I was quite idle and highly inactive and liked to sit idly always.
I did not take many things seriously and this made me weak in academics and
extracurricular activities.
My parents and friends and friends always wanted me to be a punctual person.
Now my idleness has been removed.
Last year during my final semester I did not take my academics seriously and
kept playing video games and hanging out with friends.
And this resulted in a low academic score.
My tuition teacher told me I have a good memory and other academic skills.
I just need to be punctual in my academics and extracurricular activities.
I took his advice seriously and stopped all bad habits and started studying.
As I begin an active lifestyle my health and academic score improved.
I also scored excellent bands in my IELTS exam.
This was a very positive change as it made me realize what opportunities I have
in the future.
I got admission to a reputed University in Canada and my parents and friends
appreciated my work and change.
Know I realize the time I have wasted but now I have a firm determination to
become a successful person in my life.

- What it is
- Where it is grown
- Why is it important to your country?
My country has predominantly been an agricultural country even though, in
recent times, industrialization has made its way in many parts.
So, it is fair to say that I am more than familiar with a few crops that are grown
in my country, and paddy/rice is one of them.
Talking about rice, this particular crop is pretty popular throughout the whole
continent of Asia where the majority of its people eat rice as their main food.
By the way, rice is regarded as the first cultivated crop in Asia.
Rice is the principal food in India and a large number of people eat rice as their
everyday meal.
In terms of products, India holds the second position in the world.
Preserved rice grains were found in India around 3000 B.C.
Apart from Asian countries, rice is also grown to some extent in Africa, the
Caribbean and Latin American countries, Australia and Europe.
Rice cultivation is well-suited to countries and regions with low labour costs and
high rainfall, as it is labour-intensive to cultivate and requires ample water.
However, rice can be grown practically anywhere, even on a steep hill or
mountain area with the use of water-controlling terrace systems.
But, before anything, one needs proper seedling of suitable varieties of rice,
which suit the environment, to cultivate rice.

Once the seedlings are grown at a certain height, they are then planted on the
soil after preparing it by ploughing and harrowing it properly.
Anyway, I like everything about this particular crop because it has lots of usage.
Needless to say, when rice is grown, its green look renders the landscape of my
country so beautiful that one just would keep looking at it while the wind moves
them gently.
Besides, they look stunningly beautiful when the paddy sheaf becomes gold and
ready for harvesting.
Well, this crop is very important for my country because it meets the demand
for the main food and carbohydrate for millions of the population of my country.
Besides, still, the majority of the population of my country is dependent on this
crop for their livelihood and economic needs.
Finally, rice is an important crop in my country also because its straw is
predominantly used as a feed for livestock all over my country.

Childhood is a phase where people get beguiled and fascinated by a lot of things
and getting awed by a person, specifically, adults, is one of the most common
matters.
One person that I was very impressed with was Mr. Ankur, as he had all the
virtues a gentle and nobleman should have.
He was very ethical and he used to inspire all of us kids back then.
He was our class teacher in class three and was our Mathematics teacher in class
fourth and fifth consecutively.
One quality from an academic purview that used to strike awe in all of us was
his ability and nimbleness while performing mathematics calculations.
He was extremely diligent in his field of studies and left no stone unturned in
teaching us in the best possible way.
To this date, I remember all of his basics and formulae classes with tips and tricks
so vividly as though it’s a matter of a few weeks ago.
Apart from being an adept teacher, he used to be one person whom all of the
students used to rush to get their childhood quandary and conundrums
resolved.
The bonding he had with us was more profound than any other teacher at our
school.
Moreover, his equations with other teachers and staff of our school were yet
another commendable thing about him.
Not only did he treat everyone so respectfully, but he also ensured that we
respect everyone regardless of one’s position and stature in society.

He was indeed a virtuous and righteous human being and though he left our
school once we were promoted to mid-school, he will always have a special
position in my heart.

49. Describe a thing you cannot live without (not mobile or computer)
You should say
What it is?
How long have you had it for?
Why you cannot live without it?
Explain how you felt when you were without it?
Science and technology have made us over-dependent on things.
We all have a few things or commodities in our lives, which are considered to be
indispensable to our daily lives.
That might be a pet for someone, a bike for a mountaineer, look for a celebrity
star, or a balanced diet for the health-conscious person.
It is really difficult to think of living in their absence.
Similarly, I am hooked on my book.
It is a book titled 'Who moved cheese' written by Dr. Spencer Johnson and
published by Penguin books.
The book revolves around some amazing ways to deal with change in your work
and your work and personal life.
I have had this book for about 3 years now.
The thing was gifted to me by my dearest friend and well-wisher, Shardul.
The idea behind giving me the novel was to motivate me and give me some hope
during the period of maths.
I had kept the book at my study desk ever since.
I considered the book my lucky charm.
Whatever I have achieved in recent years, I owe it to that novel.
Each time I read a few lines; I develop a positive attitude towards life.
So, it is valuable for me as an individual.
I felt lost and hopeless when someone took this book away from me.
I was running low on motivation and disinterested in my work.

Therefore, my work efficiency felt the impact of living without it.
In the end, I would just tell you that books are friends who never leave your side.
This saying is very true as ‘who moved my cheese’ has always been there for me.

50. Describe a difficult thing you did
You should say
- What it was?
- How did you complete it?
- Why it was difficult?
- And how do you feel about doing it?
Well, I have done many things in my life that I found rather difficult at first but
once I got into them, they were as easy as pie.
So today, I would love to describe one such real-life story when I conquered my
fear.
The thing that I would like to talk about is Swimming!
All my life I was apprehensive about diving into the water, but recently I realized
that swimming is an important like-skill that I should learn.
I also thought it would be good exercise and help me become physically
stronger.
My initial training experience was indeed scary; however, I did complete the
course…. Thanks to my wonderful mentor.
On the 1st day, after I put up my bathing suit in the locker room, I stood timidly
by the side of the pool waiting for the teacher and another student to show up.
Sooner than I imagined, however, things began to feel “right” and
the trembling was gone.
The teacher had me put on brightly coloured water wings to help me stay afloat
and that's how I learned to swim.
Things were not quite that easy for me! Whenever I had close contact with
water, my aquaphobia kicked in.
I heard a lot of traumatic stories in my childhood like – My uncle nearly drowned
as a child in a badly supervised swimming lesson; my mother told me she had
been dangled over a bridge once.
These experiences made Swimming even more difficult for me.

And after learning it…I was as happy as Larry. The most soothing part was that
now nobody would dare to call me a nervous adult.
I was confident and felt like floating on the water is more comforting than ever.
In the end, I just have to say that, learning to swim was not easy for me it was a
herculean task, but in the end, my persistence paid off.
Not only did I learn how to swim, but I also learned to never say never.
Now, whenever I am faced with a difficult thing I stand like a rock.
