CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

The majority of us are impress by how technologically proficient today's youth is.Most Filipino
children as young as eleven code their apps or start social movements on Tiktok, which astounds
and astounds us. But we can't help but believe that the younger Pinoy generations are missing out on
many of the Filipino childhood experiences that we still value, because of the change in society the
people who belong in it also change, in the past, children were on the street or in the plaza playing
“,tagu-taguan, tumbang preso, habolan, bahay-bahayan, baril-barilan” and so on, now there are
almost no children to see on the street and plaza playing, because they are practically spending most
of their time on their phones or laptops playing video games, watching videos and whatsoever.

Here are some of the best Filipino games we enjoyed playing as children that we treasure and
remember:

Tagu-taguan-

I have many memories of this game but the funniest memory I have here is when one of my friends
cried because he couldn't get out of being a bet, because my other friends and I are exchanging
clothes so we don't get caught and if we get caught he will say the other person’s name, or, we will
be hiding behind him while he is counting, so the game will start again, so if you become a bet, don't
expect to be replaced by others.

Patintero-

For those who don't know, patintero is a game made up of six boxes, three on the left and three on
the right. The rules in this game are simple, you just have to go to the other side of the box and come
back without being caught by the other team. When I was a kid I have a friend who was small and
thin, everytime we played patintero my other friends and I were having a hard time catching him,
because we couldn't reach him no matter what we did, and he also moved so fast, so it was really
hard to catch him, we only caught him when he slipped and he didn't stood up immediately.

tumbang preso-

Back then every afternoon we go to the covered court not to play basketball but to play tumbang
preso, whenever we play with the kids that are younger and smaller than us we let them chased us
and make fun of them, because we knew they couldn't catch us, but when we play with the older and
taller guys, we will not hit the can for fear that we might become their target and be the next bet, and
sometimes we will throw our slipper near the “manuhan” or far away from the can so we don't
become a bet.

There is no denying that the youth of those days were fun even if there were no gadgets. The youth
of those days were creative when it comes to games, because even with simple things, they could
think of other ways to make it fun to play with. For others it was just a piece of trash, but for us back
then that piece of trash brings joy to our faces.We don't need expensive things for us to be happy, we
just need creativity and imagination so that simple and useless things can be fun and enjoyable.
