Reporting Fauvism

Fauvism was an early 20th century art movement characterized by vibrant, non-naturalistic colors and spontaneous brushwork. It emerged in 1905 following the Salon d'Automne exhibition in Paris where works by Matisse, Derain, and other artists caused outrage with their radical use of color. Though brief, lasting from 1905 to 1908, Fauvism had a significant influence on modern art by freeing color from descriptive purposes and allowing it to exist independently.
