In exercise of the po\\ers confened by section 63(c) of the Building


Ordinance, 1991 [Cap. S/. the Yang di-Perlua Negeri has made the fbllowing Order:

Citation and commencement


1. This Order may be cited as the Government Buildings (Exemption)
Order, 2Bl7 , and shall be deemed to have come into force on the 1st dav of
October. 1994.

Interpretation
2. in this Order-

"Director" means the Director of Public Works, Sarawak and shall


include his Deputy or any person duly authorized by him in writing to perform
the functions and duties conferred upon him by this Order;

"Government" means the Government of the Federation or the State of


Sarawak and includes any body corporate established under any state lar,r,in
force in Sarawak:

"local authority" has the same meaning assigned to that expression under
the Building Ordinance, 1994 fCap. 8J (hereinafter referred to as the
"Ordinance").

Government buildings
3. ( 1)buildings of or belonging to the
A11 btrilding works or
Govemment are exempted from submission of plans and drawings under the
BLrilding By-laws contained in the Fourth Schedule of the Ordinance:

Pror ided that

(o)
the plans and drawings of such building works or buildings are
designed partially or wholly by the Public Works Department, Sarau,ak and
approved by the Director (hereinafter refbrred to as the "Department").

(b) the supervision of the building works and all works associated
thereto is undertaken by the Director or by the local authority; and

(c)
a Cerlificate of Completion shall be issued by the Director upon
completion of the building works or buildings and shall be deemed as a
certifi cate of' fi tncss lor occupation.

(2)
The Department shall send a copy of the Certificate of Completion
together with a set of the plans and drau,ings. r.vithin thirty days after the issuance of
the Certillcate. to the Iocal authority having jurisdiction over the area r.rhere the
bLrilding r.rorks or buildings are located.

(3) Notwi Order 3(l).the Depaflment shall beI required to submit


building plans in ith the requirernents of Parl VI and Part VII of the
Buiiding by-laws.
