Festivals are delightful events for the Filipinos, we are all feast-loving people. We love to
celebrate almost every aspect of our existence – from birth to death. We have birthday celebrations,
wakes for the dead , marriage feasts, and others. Philippine festivals are famous for their colourful,
artistic costumes, masks and props. Some of it geared towards cultural preservation and tourism such
as the Panagbenga in Baguio City, Ati-Atihan in Aklan, Binirayan in Antique, Dinagyang in Iloilo,
Kadayawan in Davao, Maskara in Bacolod, Kasadyaan in Tacloban, Moriones in Marinduque, Sorteo
in Carmona, Cavite, Lechon in Batangas, Boling-boling in Catanauan, Quezon, Kakanindayog and
Wagayway in Imus, Lubi-lubi in Negros, Coramlan in Alaminos, Bangus in Pangasinan, and thousands
of others. Each festival is unique. Flowers and ornamentals dominate the Panagbenga, kipping in the
Pahiyas, colors and paints in Maskara, Ati-atihan and Sinulog. No matter what type of festival is
celebrated, the important element is that the community is united in these festivals.

Sunday of January. Also known as “Queen of festivals in the Philippines”
___________5. An annual festival in Davao. Its name derives from the friendly greeting "Madayaw",
from the Dabawenyo word meaning good, valuable, superior or beautiful.
___________6. This annual festival, which is similar to Brazil's Rio Carnival, literally translates to
“many faces,” and is celebrated every October in Bacolod.
___________7. A Lenten festival held annually on Holy Week on the island of Marinduque,
Philippines.
___________8. A cultural-religious celebration in Tacloban based on the body-painting traditions
of the ancient tattooed "pintados" warriors.
___________9. A local festival held annually In Angono, Philippines, where hundreds of giant
papier-mâché puppets are paraded, representing the common people's mockery
of the bad hacienda (land) owners of the past during Spanish colonial rule.
___________10. It is an annual cultural and religious festival held on the third Sunday of January
in Cebu City, and on the fourth Sunday of January in Carmen, Cebu, and is the
centre of the Santo Niño Catholic celebrations in the Philippines.
