ESSAY - PROM EXPERIENCE

Reading & Writing - Activity #3

Name: Andrei Ryan L. Reyes
Grade: 11 - St. Ignatius

If I were to describe my JS Prom experience, I would simply say

that it was a very special, entertaining, and an unforgettable evening. I
had a lot of fun together with my friends during that night and we had a
blast. Back then when I was still in my junior year, I was looking forward
to prom since I would be given the chance to attend it the following year,
that was until pandemic occurred. Now that I am in my senior year, I now
finally have the privilege to attend this once in a lifetime event, so I made
it worthwhile.

Right about after the new year was celebrated, we already started
making plans for the upcoming event so that my family is ready for the
expenses needed. A week before the promenade took place, we rented a
suit which was somewhat alike to my partner’s gown. The suit was a
velvet red coat together with a matching blazer and a pair of pants, and
just the thought of me in this neat attire immediately raced my heart to
excitement because it would be considered as my first ever JS Prom
experience.

On the day of the event, it took me and my partner nearly two

hours to get ready. And when we arrived at the venue, I was mesmerized
at how the place was decorated. It is as if we were in a different place at
that moment and as we walked down the hallway, my classmates greeted
us and instantly took pictures for each other, for memories of course. As
we were about to gather for the entrance, my heart raced promptly. I was
nervous but at the same time excited. At that moment I was feeling
butterflies in my stomach with many thoughts running through my mind.
As the event started, I saw many fair ladies and handsome gentlemen all
dressed fancy and formal, some were elegant, some were unique, some
were neat, and some were extravagant and came fully prepared as if we
were about to celebrate their debut.

Finally, the highlight of the night has finally come. We can finally
show our cotillion that we practiced to perfection and show off our
talents in dancing. After that, there were many intermissions from the
teachers and students. I was very entertained and kept on cheering and
laughing with my seatmates, almost as if I didn’t want the night to end.

And in the middle of the entertainment, a lovely song played and

just before I knew it, couples and partners were standing up and dancing
in the middle. So I stood up and asked one of my classmates to dance
with me and they kindly accepted. We kept switching partners and
danced with almost all of the girls in my class until a breakdance song
was played. We partied like it was our last and had a blast.

Right before we started eating, my name was called up and became

one of the candidates of achieving the title “King of the Night” or also
known as “Prom King”. I was very glad to hear that I was one of the
candidates but there were tough competitors, so I didn’t get my hopes up
that much.
The food, on the other hand, was very delicious and tasty although
I didn’t mind it that much because I was too focused on enjoying the ball.
As the night came to a close, my name was once again called up and I
received the title of “Best in Formal Wear”. Although I didn’t get the
crown of Prom King, I was more than happy that my red velvet suit won.
Soon after the coronation, we once again partied like it was the end,
some students left early but that didn’t affect us and carried on with our
business. For a minute, there was nothing on my mind but the moment
that I was submerged in.

This experience climbed its way up on one of my core memories.

This once in a lifetime event also taught and improved me on how to be
myself. That night was indeed a special moment for me that I can see
myself holding close to my heart. I would like to express my gratitude to
my school for giving me the best first experience of my JS Prom Night,
thank you very much.
