Monggo Seeds

The student conducted an experiment to test how different solutions affect the growth of mongo seeds. Mongo seeds were placed in water, vinegar, oil, salt water, and sugar water. Over six days, the seeds that floated were observed. Seeds in sugar water were the only ones that sprouted, reaching 6mm in height by day 6. The conclusion is that mongo seeds have the ability to germinate when moisture, air, light, and the right temperature are present, even without soil.

Title: The Effect of every Treatment/Solution On the Growth of Mongo Seed


Question: Why some of the monggo seeds float while others sink to the bottom?

Hypothesis: If the monggo seeds is more dense than water, then it will tend to sink, if it is less dense, it will tend to float.

Experiment(materials)
1. 50 Mongo seeds
2.Salt
3.Oil
4.Vinegar
5.Tap water
6.Sugar
7.5 Plastic Cups

Experiment (steps)
1.Fill 100ml of water in every plastic cup. 6.Place 10 monggo seeds each cup.
2.Fill 100ml of vinegar in the second cup. 7.Observe for 6 days.
3.Fill 100ml of oil in the 3rd cup.
4.Put 1 spoonful of salt in the fourth cup
5.Put 1 spoonful of sugar in the fifth cup.
