The daily lesson log summarizes a math lesson on relations and functions for an 8th grade class. The objectives are to understand key concepts of linear inequalities, systems of linear inequalities, and linear functions. Learning activities include discussing the differences between functions and relations, playing games to identify functions, and completing a worksheet with examples. Formative assessment involves justifying answers in a quiz show and assignment questions about representing relations in pictures.

variables and linear functions

B. Performance Standards The learner is able to formulate and solve accurately real-life problems involving linear inequalities and system of linear
inequalities in two variables, and linear functions.

C. Learning  Illustrates a relation and a function. (M8AL-IIc-1)

D. Discussing new concepts and 1. Discuss briefly how to determine function from not function given many-to-one and one-to-one correspondence.
practicing new skills #1
E. Discussing new concepts and 1. Do “Play Ko, Spot Mo” activity. The students sing a song in unison from the slide show. The students (by group) will represent the
practicing new skills #2 relationship or function being described in the song. They will identify whether the answer is function or not function. They will raise
their final answer using a colored cards ( blue cards for function and red card if not function) when the teacher will signals them to
do so. Let one representative explain or justify their answer.
2. Do the BIG WHEEL EG. Spin the wheel. The teacher will spin the wheel to determine the points for each question on the slide
show. The students (by group) will represent the relationship or function being described in the game. They will identify whether the
answer is always, sometimes or never. They will raise their final answer using a flag let when the teacher will signals them to do so.
Let one representative explain or justify their answer.
( This activity integrates music, science and EsP)
F. Developing mastery 1. Through quiz show by group (same grouping), the students will classify the given scenarios whether they are function or not.
(Leads to formative assessment 3) Students will be given praised for every correct answer.
2. Let the students justify their answers. Students will be given praised for every correct answer.
G. Finding practical applications
of concepts and skills in daily
living
H. Making generalizations and What is function? When is a relation considered a function? Students will be given praised for every correct answer.

I. Evaluating Learning Answer the worksheet individually. relation
Determine the relationship of each statement and write “DEX” if it is function and “TER” if it is
1. The relation of the weight gained to the amount of food intake
2. The relation of the intensity of head ache to the number of problems being solved
3. The relation of heart rate to the age of a person
4. The relation of the amount to be paid to the number of liters of gasoline purchased
5. The relation of physical appearance of a person to the number of friends of that person
J. Additional activities for Assignment:
application or remediation 1. Cut and paste a picture from old newspaper or magazine where function and relation can be observed. (You can draw if there is
no picture to be used)
2. Paste the cut out on a short bond paper.
3. Write 2 relations shown in the picture and represent using any of the ways of representing relations.
4. Justify your answers.
