The Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) monitors the presence of the officer of the watch on the bridge to improve safety and prevent accidents. It has three modes - automatic, manual on, and manual off - and can be switched off by the master only under specific circumstances like when the ship is under pilotage or alongside. The system provides three levels of alarms to alert the crew if the officer has not reset the alarm within set time intervals.
