Access Data FTK 32x-33x Upgrade
Access Data FTK 32x-33x Upgrade
x Upgrade Information
This document provides useful information for FTK 3.2.x users who are upgrading to FTK 3.3.0 FTK allows multiple major-release versions to be installed on the same computer at the same time. What this means: FTK 3.2.x does not have to be uninstalled prior to installing FTK 3.3.0 The Database Install ISO is not needed if FTK 3.3.0 is going to use the same Oracle installation as FTK 3.2.x is using If you need to utilize KFF data with FTK 3.3.0, you will need the full FTK 3.3.0 Application Installation Disk (or the KFF Install 3.3.iso from the main downloads page) and run the KFF install after FTK 3.3.0 is installed. Cases are kept in separate instances of the database and will only appear in the version of FTK they were created in Case work can be started or continued in either version independently. This allows cases started in 3.2.x to be completed in the same version of FTK even after a newer version has been installed Cases can be copied from older versions of FTK to newer versions (but not from newer to older) Uninstalling FTK 3.2.x after FTK 3.3.0 is installed will not affect cases in 3.3.0 Only one version of FTK should be running or processing at any one time Installing FTK 3.3.0 without Uninstalling FTK 3.2.x To have both FTK programs installed on the same computer: Extract the upgrade ZIP For installation on a 32-bit OS, Launch the AccessData Evidence Processing Engine.exe installer from the upgrade zip file and follow the prompts. For installation on a 64-bit OS, Launch the AccessData Evidence Processing Engine(64-bit).exe installer from the upgrade zip file and follow the prompts. Do not check the box on the Destination Folder window Install as distributed processing engine When complete, launch the AccessData Forensic Toolkit.exe (for 32-bit OS installs) or AccessData Forensic Toolkit (64-bit).exe file (for 64-bit OS installs) and follow all the installation steps (refer to the FTK 3 Install Guide for more detailed installation instructions). Refer to the guide on Configuring Distributed Processing for the installation instructions on the distributed processing engine. The Distributed Processing Engine is installed by running the AccessData Evidence Processing Engine installer on the computer to be used for distributed processing and checking the Install as distributed processing engine box after the license agreement step. Do not install a distributed processing engine on the same computer as FTK, it will disable all FTK processing capability. KFF installations are unique to each major version of FTK. If KFF is needed for FTK 3.3.0, it needs to be installed from the FTK 3.3.0 Application Install ISO/disk even if KFF is already installed for FTK 3.2.x.
No database installation is necessary as long as FTK 3.3.0 will use the same database as FTK 3.1.x Moving Cases from FTK 3.2.x to FTK 3.3.0 To view or continue working on cases in FTK 3.3.0 that were originally created with FTK 3.2.x, launch FTK 3.3.0 and from the Case menu select Copy Previous Case . Enter the Oracle SYS password if prompted. This will display the cases currently in the database that were created with previous versions of FTK. Use the Control or Shift keys to multi-select the cases you want to import into FTK 3.3.0. Cases will still be available for use in FTK 3.2.x after they are copied. Uninstalling FTK 3.2.x after FTK 3.3.0 has been Installed To remove FTK 3.2.x and leave FTK 3.3.0 installed: From the Add Remove Programs list, uninstall AccessData Forensic Toolkit 3.2, AccessData Evidence Processing Engine 3.2, and AccessData KFF Library 3.2 Leave AccessData Evidence Processing Engine 3.3, AccessData Forensic Toolkit 3.3, AccessData KFF Library 3.3, AccessData Oracle 10g, and CodeMeter Runtime Kit v4.20b installed.
