1. Introduction
Car washing is a single task performed to maintain the car's exterior clean. The
majority of it is done manually in locomotive garages, resulting in further loss of
water, labor, and time. The automatic car washing system reduces the use of water as
well as the demand for people. ARDUINO is used to control our car washing system.
Foaming, washing, and drying are the three processes that our vehicle washer system
goes through. Washing cycles involve a detergent wash followed by a water wash.
ARDUINO is a micro controller that can easily control most machinery. In
ARDUINO, installing and configuring an application is a breeze. Before releasing a
programmer developed in C, it can be authenticated and checked. The programmers
produced in C may be authenticated and checked before final installation, and they
can also be modified at any time without disrupting the project's physical apparatus.
The nicest feature of using ARDUINO is that it doesn't require any traditional wiring
or rewiring if the previously installed application is changed. ARDUINO primarily
performs three functions that are repeatedly performed in the same order. (1) Input
testing (2) programmer execution (3) output updating are the three basic functions. In
ARDUINO, input terminals are provided for connecting input devices, while output
terminals are provided for connecting output devices.[1]
1.1 BACKGROUND
There are around 630,440 cars in Addis Ababa. Each car owner wants his car washed
at least once a week. Most of them rely on local guys or their apartment’s watchmen
to clean their car. The cost for this varies from area to area and is unregulated. The
experience is often unsatisfactory. So, this car wash provides a solution to this
problem.[2]
This project is designed to fill the gap created by the unequal demand and supply of
the car wash service in the city. Even though there exist many numbers of
automobiles in the hands of individuals, business men & organizations there is no
enough and quality service given by car wash stations.
1
The major competitors of our projected business are those who give the car wash
service in the gas stations and those youngsters who raise money for their living by
cleaning cars around running waters. However, those competitors are not in a good
standard and take much time, one & half to two hours per car wash, and aim to meet
the needs of the price-conscious individuals who are choosing the service simply so
they do not have to clean their car themselves. This automatic car wash system on the
other hand targets the quality-conscious individuals who value their car to make it
look good and the time-conscious individuals who have given value to their time.
This automatic car wash system intends to setup a new car wash system with
modern computerized controlled equipment’s and sophisticated techniques. The plan
is introducing a new car washing system with safe, quick, satisfied car washing
service to car owners. It can provide the facility of quick washing service facility with
the capacity of dealing 12 cars per hours as per car in 5 minutes.
Since there are more than 600,000 automobiles in Addis Abeba, where owners
want them cleaned once a week, car washing in our country is still in need of
improvement. Owners rely primarily on locals, and because prices vary depending on
location and are unregulated, the results are still subpar. So, considering the excessive
water use and pollution caused by car washes, we asked ourselves, "What if? "; what
if we came up with an effective idea to reduce water waste as well as time and money
waste, which then led us to discover an idea on how to make it actually happen,
though it was only theoretical at first, talking about it with each other.
There are many automobiles in Ethiopia nowadays, notably in the capital of Addis
Ababa there are around 630,440 cars and also many in other regional capital cities,
but due to the damaged roads and several unfinished highways, they appear dusty. In
the summer, the cars also appear muddy because of the floods that inundate the roads.
As a result of these and other factors, city cars appear dirty, which gives the nation a
negative reputation.
2
Due to the fact that most people's jobs require them to leave early in the morning
and return late at night, washing cars at least twice a week will help prevent this.
These machine make life easier.
The majority of car wash establishments waste a lot of water, and their
surroundings are not properly cleaned; they appear muddy because there is no sewage
present. But the water we used for washing will be put back to use in our project after
being cleaned and dropped into a container. The best part of the machine is how it
works in the last stage, where the car must go through 4 layers to be thoroughly
cleaned, dried, and re-used of water.
1.3 HYPOTHESIS
To design car washing machine based on automatic system with waste water

1.5 Significance of automatic car wash
The automatic car wash is the solution to save you some valuable time especially on
weekends. An automatic car wash system uses less water than a manual car wash. On
top of that, the water is recycled and reused. They are often shocked to discovered
that an automatic car wash actually offers significant advantages:
There are actually a lot of benefits that we can get from the automatic car wash
system. Here are a few of them.
1. Cleans better than any other method: the system uses technology that is designed
to clean the car in deeper level. Normal washing often leaves water spot or debris on
the exterior. on top of that , you don't know +how to properly wash your car, you will
never get the desired cleanliness.the smooth car cleaning system in automatic car
wash designed to make your car squeaky clean in just a few minutes.
2. Damage free wash: an automated car wash system doesn't damage the car paint
and any fragile car parts. Manual car wash cleaning leaves room for errors. Even a
small error in the manual washing process might leave a permanent scratch. For this
reason, an automatic car wash system is the safer option.
3. Save the hassle: if you are a busy person then you probably know the value of
time. Manually washing a car can be a lot of work and will take a lot of time from
you. Then the automated car wash is solution to save you some valuable time-
especially on weekends. Automated car wash will give you extra hours to have fun
with your family and friend.
4
Automatic car wash investigation could be to help address those areas that remain
untouched or inadequately treated by manual car wash. The following are areas
addressed by automatic car wash but not addressed by manual car wash
A. efficient: hand washing uses a lot more water than automatic car wash machines.
This makes automatic car wash more efficient and cost friendly than its counterpart.
B. consistent: humans are prone to get exhausted. in case, the person washing the car
is tired , the washing efficiency will be affected. this will not happen with an
automatic car wash and your car will get a better wash and you can trust the machine
to give you the result every time.
D. faster: most importantly, the automatic car wash saves times and offers
convenience. You take it to your nearest automatic car wash service providers and get
a spotless car in only 5 to 10 minutes.
Moreover you can have the automatic car wash process customized. If your car needs
more coats of protection, the automatic car wash machines in the UAE can be
programmed to deliver it. and some studies show that a machine-based car wash is
actually better for your car's paints' washing your car at home with household
sponges, towels, hoses, and cleaners can scratch and ruin the paint on your car.[3][4]
2. METHODOLOGY
Data collection
The function of the car washing system is when the car is entered in the washing room
the car is placed on the small conveyor belt.
The dc motor used in conveyor belt system. The detergent water to clean the
car is provided by the solenoid valve.
5
This conveyor takes car to the lift mechanism. Lift mechanism lift the car
upside where the brushing system and sprinkler system is used.
Brushing system is used to clean the car and the sprinkler system is used to
wash the car using Component various types of components are used in this
project: for instance Proximity sensor it finds the availability of nearby
objects by emit EMF or a beam of electromagnetic radiation without any
physical contacts. We have used inductive type in our project, proximity
sensor for detection of metal cars.
3.Working system
Input-IR sensor:-
When car comes on IR-sensor, sensor sense and conveyor starts moving with the help
of motor (M2) until it will reach to the next IR sensor section As car reached to next ir
section then entry gate start to open for 2sec.
Pre-wash Section:-
As the car reaches in pre-wash chamber, shampoo water falls on the car by opening
valve (V1).Valve will remain on for 5 sec. After 5sec. valve will close automatically.
Again conveyor starts moving until it will reach to the next IR sensor section
(Brushing section).
6
You can find the sample interview in Appendix A
Brushing Section:-
As the conveyor stops vertical brushes starts brushing the car for10sec. And stop.
Again conveyor starts moving until it will reach to the next IR sensor section (Clean
wash section)
Final Wash Section:-
Valve (V2) gets open for 5 sec. and get closed. Again conveyor starts moving until it
will reach to the next IR sensor section(Drying)
Drying:-
Start dryer for 10 sec. and stop.
Exit:-
After drying stage completion open exit gate with the help of motor (M6) for 2 sec.
and stop. Again conveyor
starts starts moving until it will reach to the next IR sensor section. Close the gate
(M6).
