1 System requirements
 Minimum 80 GB disk space (160 GB or more recommended).
 Intel® Core2 Duo Processor running at least 2.4 GHz.
 Minimum 1 GB RAM (3 GB or more recommended with large CAD models and laser
systems).
 USB ports (for printers, memory devices, DK2 dongle).
 Network card required for PC connection to MCC300, MCC200, ACT/AIM, LK4000 and
LK2000+ controllers. Further network cards may be required for connection to a company
network or to connect to the OPCD laser controller.
 Minimum 128 MB RAM graphics card (256 MB or more recommended). The following link
has information on cards recommended by Tech Soft America (the developers of the
HOOPS graphics engine):

Metrology for further information on graphics card support).

1.1 Supported Operating Systems

 Windows XP Professional 32-bit (Service Pack 3 or later). If WinXP Service Pack 3 or
later is installed, then the Windows Firewall must be switched OFF.
 Windows 7 Professional x86 (Initial Release or later).
 Windows 7 Professional x64 (Initial Release or later).

1.2 System Configuration

Internet Explorer 7 or higher must be installed (however this does not need to be used as the
default browser). If Internet Explorer 9 is installed, clicking on links to pdf files within the
CAMIO help files may cause them to crash. This is a known Microsoft issue. See section 5.3
Quick Guides to CAMIO for more information.

Display settings should be set to at least 1024x768 with colour depth set to High Colour or
True Colour (recommended). Lower settings are allowed but the interface may appear
distorted. It is also good practice to obtain the latest versions of the drivers for your graphics
card display adapter.

2 Before you install CAMIO Version 8.x
 Ensure that your PC system meets the minimum system requirements as described
above.
 If you are upgrading from an earlier version of CAMIO software, back up your essential
data - see below.
 Release notes are available on the installation CD for reading or printing.
 These installation notes are available on the installation CD as a PDF file for printing.

3 Backing up your data
Always back up your C:\LK folder and databases before installing or upgrading CAMIO
software. These should be backed up regularly as part of your normal IT procedures, and in
addition we recommend that you copy these to another location before running any
installation program (if you are unsure about this, contact your IT Department or
Administrator).

 C:\LK folder contains your CMM configuration file and many other critical files.
 The databases contain your inspection data and machine calibration data.
The minimum requirement for a back-up location should be a zip drive, tape drive, recordable
CD or USB memory device, or another PC if on a network.

IMPORTANT: if you suspect that your machine data or other files have been altered during
an upgrade or installation, DO NOT copy the back-up C:\LK folder to its original location
without contacting Nikon Metrology for advice. This folder also contains files that are
installed with new versions of CAMIO software, and overwriting with older versions will
prevent the new installation from working correctly.

3.1 LK folder upgrade strategy

In the C:\LK folder, files that are already present will not be updated, only new files/folders
will be added.

3.2 Database upgrade strategy

When you install CAMIO you should be aware of what will happen to the databases:

If you are installing CAMIO 8.x on a machine where a version of Camio 6.3 or lower is
already installed then the new database will sit alongside the existing database. In this case
you will have to save the old data manually and import it into the CAMIO 8.x database using
the "CAMIO Database Admin Tool".

If you are installing CAMIO 8.x onto a machine where any version of CAMIO 7 or a lower
version of CAMIO 8 (lower than x) is installed then the database will be upgraded to your
new version.

If you are installing CAMIO 8.x onto a machine where a higher version of CAMIO 8 (higher
than x) is installed then the database will remain unchanged.

4 Installation of CAMIO

4.1 Switching off the Firewall

If you are running Windows XP with SP3 or later, you will need to switch off the Firewall
before installing and using CAMIO. From the Control Panel, select the Windows Firewall
icon. In the following dialog, click the Off button:

4.2 User Rights and Configuration Management

The CAMIO installation no longer creates any Windows local user groups. Instead, the
CAMIO installation configures your system to allow all Windows users to configure CAMIO
as required.

4.3 Start the Installation

Before you install/uninstall any software, it is always recommended that you close all other
programs and temporarily disable anti-virus software. Administrator privileges may be
required to make these changes, and are mandatory for the CAMIO installer.

To start the main CAMIO installation, run Setup.exe from the CAMIO folder. This installer
contains all of the 3rd party components that CAMIO uses, such as Microsoft SQL. It also
then installs CAMIO 8.x.

You may again be asked if you want to allow an unknown publisher to make modifications to
your PC – you must accept this:

The installer will then go through a number of 3rd party installs that are required for CAMIO.

Some of the requirements listed above might already be installed on your computer, in which
case they will not appear in this list. Installation of some of these components might require
confirmation.

The installation should proceed without the need to do anything except click ‘Install’. Once
all the requirements are installed the installer will proceed to install CAMIO.

Click Install to begin the installation. The CAMIO installer will install all the components and
options provided with CAMIO. Although all the components of CAMIO will be installed, you
must obtain licences from Nikon Metrology before you can use them.

5 Installation of the Nikon Metrology API

If you want to use a Laser scanner with CAMIO you must now install the Nikon Metrology
API using NikonMetrologyAPI.exe. If you have an OPC-D this must be switched on and
connected to the CAMIO PC when installing.

You may again be asked if you want to allow a program to make modifications to your PC –
you must accept this:

6 Before you run CAMIO Version 8.x

6.1 Print Device

Before you run CAMIO, you must either have a local or network printer installed, or software
installed that creates a PDF printer driver. This is required by the reporting functions within
CAMIO and warning dialogs are displayed if a print device is not correctly configured.

6.2 File and Printer Sharing

File and Printer Sharing must be enabled for the SQL Server to install correctly.

To check this, from the Start menu select Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services.
Scroll down the list on the right and check that there is a Server item with the status 'Started'.

If the Server item is not present follow the instructions according to your version of Windows:

For Windows XP:

1. From the Start menu select Control Panel>Network Connections.
2. Right-click on a connection and select Properties. The list in the middle of the General
tab must show File and Printer Sharing.
3. If File and Printer Sharing is not shown, click Install, select Service and then click Add.
4. Select File and Printer Sharing, then click OK.
5. Restart the computer and check that the SQL Server has now started (as described
above).
For Windows 7:
1. From the Start menu select Control Panel>Network and Sharing Centre.
2. Select Change advanced sharing settings from the right hand pane and ensure the Turn
on file and printer sharing radio button is selected.
3. If it is not currently selected, select the Turn on file and printer sharing radio button and
click Save Changes at the bottom of the screen.
4. Restart the computer and check that the SQL Server has now started (as described
above).

6.3 Quick Guides to CAMIO

You can view PDF quick guides to using the CAMIO software from the CAMIO Learning
Centre option on the Help menu in CAMIO. To view these guides, you must install the
Adobe® Reader® software after the main CAMIO installation has completed (unless you
have installed it previously). The Adobe Reader installation can be found on the CAMIO
installation CD.

The PDF quick guides are embedded in some of the CAMIO help files and the CAMIO
Learning Centre. If Internet Explorer 9 is installed, clicking on links to pdf files within the
CAMIO help files may cause them to crash. This is a known Microsoft issue. The quick
guides are also available to view from the CAMIO help directory (this is usually C:\Program
Files\Nikon\CAMIO 8.x\Eng\Help for the English versions).

7 Troubleshooting

7.1 Manually Installing SQL Server

If you have your own version of SQL server, or there are problems installing the
prerequisites, SQL Server 2008 R2 can be manually installed.

You should install SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe or SQLEXPR_x86_ENU.exe, depending on

your operating system. These are available in the Requirements folder of the CAMIO
installation and install the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express edition (Service Pack 2).

If you have your own edition of SQL Server, CAMIO should also work with the Standard and
Enterprise edition of SQL Server 2008 R2. These are paid for editions, so the CDs/download
links will be needed first.
1. Run the installer. For a new installation, accept the license terms:

If there is already a version of SQL Server 2008 R2 installed you will see the following
screen. Select the option "New installation or add features to an existing installation":

3. For the Instance Configuration, named instance must be changed to CAMIO_SERVER. It

is also recommended that you install to the default location:

4. Make sure the Startup Type for SQL Server Browser is set to Automatic, the Database
engine needs to run under the account name System, and the browser as a Local
Service:

8 Component Installation Procedures

8.1 Configuring CAMIO for the I++ Server

1. Open the file lkinspect.cfg using Notepad. This file is usually found in
C:\LK\Appdata\CAMIO. If you are using Machine Launch and have multiple machines
configured, the required lkinspect.cfg will be found in
C:\LK\Machines\<machine_name>\CAMIO.
2. Find the Servertype line in the file. Set the value to 1 for the I++ server.
3. Save and close lkinspect.cfg.
4. Start CAMIO and select the CMM Configure option from the CAMIO Options menu.
5. On the Connection tab page, ensure the port is set to 1294. Type in the IP address of the
computer on which the I++ server is installed. If the server is on the same computer as
CAMIO, set the value to 0.0.0.0.
6. Click OK.

8.2 Scheduling a backup of your database

In the Windows Control Panel go to Administrative Tools>Task Scheduler (or click System
and Security, select Schedule Tasks under Administrative Tools)

2. Specify how frequently you want the back up to run.

4. Select "Start a program".

5. Browse for the CamioDbAdminConsole.exe and enter the following argument:

--backupInspectionsDb --filename="c:\backupfile.bak" --forced
where c:\backupfile.bak is the location and file for your backup.

6. Check the box to "Open the Properties dialog for this task when I click Finish".

7. Select "Run whether the user is logged in or not".

This task should now run when scheduled and back up to the given file. You must now test
that this scheduler works and that you can restore the database from the file.
