EE 218 TEST 2 – GROUP PROJECT

Question 1 (100 Marks)

The floor of a classroom is supported by timber pratt trusses. Each truss is 4.5m long and they are
spaced 1.20 m on centers as shown in Drawing No.001. The floor is made from hardwood timber
deck with finishes of which the total weight is 0.12kN/m2. Live load on the floor is 2kN/m2. All
loads are not factored. The structure is to be erected in Singida and the materials for the trusses is
Tanzania softwood. Assume the members are connected by bolts.

Tasks:

1. Identify the maximum tension force and the member in which it acts. Neglect the weight of
truss members. (50 Marks)
2. Propose the economical size of timber board that will resist maximum tension force as
calculated in 1 above. (50 Marks)
