Star Exercise 1-B-R11

Purpose
1. To enter equipment data and protection landmarks.
2. To navigate, enter, and retrieve data from each library into respective devices.
3. To Run Protective Device Design Assessment and verify the entered data.
4. To test the protection and coordination settings of this system by generating TCCs.
5. To display the Datablock for Device Settings on one-line.
6. To Run short-circuit in Star, verify TCC kA, and display of Min. and Clipping Current in
Star View.

Part 1: Data Entry


1. Open project “STAR-EX1-BR3” and use default ETAP library file (etaplibxxxx.lib).
2. Make sure you are in Edit mode, use the following One-line Diagram in the project and
enter the data for elements shown below.

Phase CT

Enter the below data for CT1 and CT2 then connect to Relay1.
Note the CT Phase/Ground Type option can be selected when the CT is disconnected from relay.
The Phase/Ground option becomes display only after connection to relay.

Overcurrent Relay

Select GE Multilin Relay 735/737 from library on OCR page of relay editor.
In Current tab of Input page, assign CT1 to Phase terminal and CT2 to Ground terminal of relay.

In Base tab of Input page, select the Cable1 as the protected element to have the ampacity as
reference for adjustment of relay pickup settings.

In Output page, add Digital Output (DO1) and Interlock it with HVCBs.

Apply the Phase Settings in Phase tab of OCR page. Compare pickup with Cable Amps.

In Rating page, select below breaker and trip device from library. In selection, pay attention to
the required information for proper selection of breaker and trip device.

Overload Heater

Select Typical Curve for Thermal characteristics of overload heater and enter the Trip Amps.

Part 2: Run Protective Device Design Assessment


1. Run the Protective Device Design Assessment from one-line and verify there is no
warning or alert displayed in violation of requested data entry steps in Part 1.

Part 3: Creation of TCC and Device Settings Report


1. Select the whole one-line and make a Star View.
2. Create Device Settings Reports from one-line and Star View.
3. Select the “Device Settings – Brief” Datablock format from toolbar and display it on one-
line for printing.

Part 4: Run Short-Circuit in Star


1. Run / Update Short-Circuit in Star to update the TCC Clipping Currents on TCC kA page
of devices with minimum (30 Cycle kA Short-Circuit Current in Standard page from
Study Case) and maximum (1/2 Cycle kA Short-Circuit Current in Standard page from
Study Case) bus fault currents.
2. Compare the bus fault currents displayed on one-line with TCC kA page of adjacent
protective devices and verify the updated Clipping and Minimum currents.
3. Display the TCC Clipping Current and Minimum Current on created Star View.
