Final Paper
Scenario 1 Answer
Using my personal ethics statement and my morale, I would be handling this situation with utmost care
and dignity. This is because, situations like this are part of any organizations and its functioning as all
these entities are holding human resources as their major assets and we are prone to both work and
personal lives together. Women are more vulnerable to such problems and are also prone to not receive
any growth or handle positions due to the same reason. Due to these reasons, being a professional
manager and good team player, I should be taking this one step at a time such that the other team member
who is already handling a lot is not put to more difficulty.
Firstly, I will be studying the progress of the project keeping in mind the deadline which is given for the
project launch. I will be analyzing the Gantt chart for the same as it will be giving me a bird eye view of
the whole project and the days left for finishing off the same. Once I know which tasks are completed and
updated along with the tasks that are pending, I would also take the list of members who are assigned
with the tasks.
Once all these are done, I will be getting an idea about whose works are pending and what should be the
action plan taken for covering the delay which have already happened and such that the whole situation is
resolved. With the detailed revised plan, I would be communicating the status and what should be done
for making us move forward and reach a point where we can launch the project as anticipated at first. I
would also be taking inputs from other team members along with putting forth my suggestions such that it
is made to be an open conversation.
I would also put forth the situation of our team member who is coming to office at 7 A.M and handling a
very tough position in the office and finding it difficult to handle her personal and work life. After this
detail discussion I would call the team member who is behind in the schedule and meetings such that I
can take an available time for arranging a meeting with her. During this meeting I would be presenting
her with all the necessary data pertaining to the project along with the tasks assigned to her and what is
pending such that she gets an overall idea of the same. I would then discuss in detail with her and ask her
suggestions regarding how we can handle the situation understanding what she is facing and how she
thinks she can tackle it. Here one thing to be made clear would be to either split the tasks given to her
with someone who have less tasks to be done in the office and have enough space to handle more
responsibilities.
Or another would be that she takes up the responsibility and ensure that she is able to take break from
some other tasks in her main position such that she is able to put enough time for this project until it is
launched on the said due date without any fail. Or if she is having any better suggestion, I should be
keeping the space often for considering the same and ask for an open discussion with other team members
to know how they can step in for helping the whole team come up with a solution such that we are able to
finish off the work.
One thing I will be keenly addressing is that my team members or I does not take any decision which will
be calling out a clear discrimination shown towards the team member as being a lady. And instead, we
come up with some revolutionary or a good idea which will be marking a different approach to handling
such a situation, and which also provides an example for everyone for referring to the approaches we can
take for handling a situation like this where we need to think and do broader than what we are used to in a
hierarchical and traditional working and workplace approach.
Ethics is all about patience, civility, compassion, honesty, kindness, diligence, self-reliance and much
more than what we suppose it is to be. So, keeping my ethical statement which is very simple as it is only
inclusion of everyone and everything along with relying on yourself for any possible solution working
with this problem would also be easy.

Scenario 2 Answer
Becoming a part of a certain organization no matter what type of organization, it is, you have the
obligation to serve the said company with all you can and part of serving it is going above and beyond
your job description when needed. Being a production Manager in a small manufacturing firm that
produces wood furniture for homes, it is ethical to have a strong environmental management plan because
you are dealing with environmental resources as your main direct material in producing a desired product.
However, based on the case above, the company particularly the CEO is not open for this kind of process
which is very unprofessional and will soon create a massive impact for the entire organization, its clients,
and most especially, the environment.
What would you do in this situation and what are your choices?
As a manager of a company who happens to have a CEO who does not care about an environmental
management plan, I have a choice to either let the operation continuously go according to the old process
they used to do or stand up for what is right and establish an innovative and sustainable approach that will
encourage the CEO and the entire organization to apply changes based on calculated plans and decisions.
Technically, the latter option is the best choice to make. As a manager, I do not only commit to do my job
based on the job description but to serve the company and the clients with integrity and professionalism.
Using your personal ethical statement, build a response.
Establishing a response for the situation should be done properly. The CEO has been approached about
the situation twice already and yet, the CEO is still not open for any kind of changes. So as a manager, I
will take my time first in creating a report that will justify the need for environmental management plan.
I'll let the CEO know about this report that I'll be working and to tell him to give me a time where we can
gather a meeting for me to present my findings and the solutions that is needed to be applied once I am
done with my report.
Identify subsequent steps you would take and justify these consistent with your personal ethical
statement.
The next steps to do is to do an extensive research within the organization and take note about the things
that must be changed, the implications of this things when not fixed right away, and the actions that can
be done to fix them. From the statement above, there are several processes which have environmental
implications, and the next steps will begin from them. There is excessive use of cardboard and paper
products in wrapping the furniture for shipment. Excessive use of packaging materials is a waste of
money for the business. The costs may seem to be not noticeable for the meantime, but it will surely build
a huge amount of money when calculated. The money that is wasted from the excessive packaging can be
used in other aspect of the production that needs improvement. As part of the corporate world, the
business must be responsible not just in creating profits but also in being practical to its expenditures.
Also, cardboard and paper products are made up of resources that are from the environment and using
them inappropriately also means wasting the said resources.
The manufacturing floor is illuminated with older and fewer efficient lighting units. To be more efficient
when it comes to producing products, the company must invest in the improvement of its manufacturing
floor and lightning as these resources plays an important role in the business. It surely costs the business
money with all the improvements needed, but it will save the business from any future problems and will
provide them with long term benefits. Because if the said problems will not get fixed for now, soon they
will permanently be disabled, and it will cost the business more money because the problem is already
bigger.
The plant is not using any kind of renewable energy source to heat the building or power machinery. This
is another unpractical thing that the business is doing. Relying on the energy source that is not renewable
also costs the business money. Application of any renewable energy source will lessen the utilities that
the business is paying and at the same time, it gives them the opportunity to help the environment save
energy. Again, investing for this kind of energy source requires funds, but it will provide them long-term
benefits in the future. The furniture is being shipped by a fleet of older trucks that are not fuel-efficient.
As a company that supplies products from different clients, a fast and efficient service vehicle is must to
provide faster and more convenient transactions. Keeping an old vehicle will only produce slower work
and time will be wasted because the business spends more time in transportation services. Plus, investing
in new vehicles that is fuel-efficient is cost effective. There is no recycling practice for refuse and scrap
products. Scraps are part of the production process, but they do not have to be turned into waste. The
business can use some machinery and equipment that can help them recycle these scraps and turn them
into something valuable and useful that will soon be used to incur additional source of income. Wood
stains, paint, and other chemicals are put into steel drums and stored on the grounds and to your
knowledge, are not disposed of properly. Waste Management is essential as part of following the
environmental protocols of the Government for all businesses. Doing a practice that does not comply with
the said guidelines and rules can put the business' name at risk or worse to face the law for improper
disposal of waste. Adaptation of a waste management plan is needed to secure that all the wastes made by
the business is well disposed.
Here is my personal ethical statement about the problem above. I hope that they give you some insights
on how to face those kinds of scenarios. Remember that to be part of the business world does not only
deal with profits. There is a bigger picture of it and one of that is to abide with environmental awareness.
