RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8172 “ AN ACT FOR SALT IODIZATION
NATIONWIDE AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES (ASIN)” FOR BARANGAY _________________ FOR THE
CALENDAR YEAR 2023.

WHEREAS, under the Section 16 of the Republic Act 7160, otherwise known as the Local
Government Code of 1991, mandates all government units to promote the general welfare of its
inhabitants, provide basic services to the constituents;

WHEREAS, “Article XIII, Section 11 of the Constitution provides that the State shall adopt an
integrated and comprehensive approach to health development which shall endeavor to make
essential goods, health and other services available to all the people at affordable cost. There shall
be priority for the needs of the underprivileged, sick, elderly, disabled, women and children;

WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 8172 known as “An Act Promoting Salt Iodization Nationwide
and for Related Purposes”, or commonly called “ASIN Law” is a major step to end the silent but
tremendous nutritional problem called Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) through the cost-effective
preventive measure of salt iodization. It requires all salt manufacturers in the country to iodize the
salts they produce, manufacture, import, trade and distribute;

WHEREAS, RA No. 8172 will protect and promote the health of the people, to maintain
effective food regulatory system, and to provide the entire population especially women and
children with proper nutrition;

WHEREAS, “ASIN Law” will contribute to the elimination of micronutrient


malnutrition in our municipality, particularly iodine deficiency disorders, through cost-effective
preventive measure of salt iodization;

WHEREAS, the gains in improving the iodine status of school-aged children in the
municipality should be sustained through the collective efforts of various sectors and stakeholders;

WHEREAS, we should work together to eliminate iodine deficiency disorder by pushing for
strict compliance with the ASIN Law and ensuring that all households use adequately-iodized salt;

NOW THEREFORE, on the motion of Sanguniang Barangay member ______________, dully


seconded, it was;
RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, to adopt the Republic Act No. 8172 known as “An
Act Promoting Salt Iodization Nationwide and for Related Purposes”, for the Barangay of
__________________ for Calendar Year 2023;
