Arts 6 - Q4 - M1
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Arts 6 Self-Learning Module on Package or Product Design !
This module was collaboratively designed, developed, and reviewed by
educators from Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its Officer-In-Charge
Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A. Agustin in partnership
with the Local Government of Pasig through its mayor, Honorable Vico Sotto.
The writers utilized the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum using the Most
Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) while overcoming their personal, social,
and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners
as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:
Welcome to the Arts 6 Self-Learning Module on Package or Product Design!
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful

Using pencil and paper we can create designs of accessories, furniture,
building, and many other things. Today, designs can be digitally enhanced using
modern technology like computer, laptops, tablet, and phones; designing and
printing made easy. Have you tried creating designs such as dress, car, or
building? How did you come up with the design?
Product designing is creating a new product that will be sold by a business to
its customers. It also refers to the art of creating or projecting the outside over-all
appearance and the presence of a product.
Packaging is anything used to as a purpose to attract the attention, to be
recognize, for safety and convenience, and other advantages. It includes items
such as boxes, trays, crates, containers, tubes, bags, and materials for wrapping.
CONTRAST AND HARMONY
It is important to remember that when using technology to design something,
you still use the same art elements as lines, colors, shapes, and textures. In
addition, the principles of art such as contrasts and harmony should also still
apply.
Contrast is a principle of art that refers to the formation between opposite
elements such as light versus dark, rough versus smooth, large versus small and
so on. It may enhance the visual experience and excitement.
Complementary colors give a high level of contrast. These are the colors
located directly across each other on the color wheel. Red and green; blue and
orange; and purple and yellow, are all examples of complementary colors.
When using the color, we also must consider value. It is the darkness or
lightness of a color. Using a full range or value means there are enough amounts of
light value-called tints, and dark value-called shades.
Harmony refers to how good all the visual elements are working together in a
piece of art. It shows the good combination of colors, shapes, value, style, and
subject. The Mandala art is an example of piece that shows good combination of
pattern and colors. This can be seen in many of packaging such as paper bag or
gift wrap.
Look at the pictures below, can you observe the principles of art in the
following product design or packaging? What principle is most observable on the
images? Is it the contrast or the harmony?
