Your paper should focus on one (or two at most) of the following issues:
• The efficacy or limitations of the hourglass model as a tool to analyze an intercultural production
• Cultural appropriation vs. cultural essentialism
• Problems or effectiveness with the framing “a flavour of India”
• Cultural specificity (Hinduism, caste distinction, etc) vs. cultural universality
• Choice of form between source (kathakali, kutiyattam, etc.) and target (spoken theatre) artistic
models
• Priority of source culture vs. reception and the ramifications of either choice
• The role of economic and political power in an intercultural production

You can decide to side (or not) with either side of the debate. Be sure to explain the arguments of both
sides clearly, using proper quotes (with pages numbers) as needed. However, your argument in support of
your choice should come from your analysis of the production, with descriptions of specific sections from
the videos (with timestamp).

Follow all academic writing guidelines with proper citation (MLA, Chicago, etc.) and 12-point font in
Times New Roman.
