Semi Detailed Lesson Plan FINAL

This lesson plan is about teaching polygons to 7th grade mathematics students. It has three learning objectives: to identify polygons and non-polygons, classify and illustrate different types of polygons, and identify convex and non-convex polygons. The lesson will begin with an introduction and review of related concepts. Students will then participate in an activity to motivate the topic where they arrange jumbled letters related to polygon definitions. The teacher will then present information on what polygons are, their characteristics and classifications. Students will learn about the parts of polygons, and the differences between convex and concave polygons. To apply the concepts, students will identify figures as polygons and classify them. The lesson will end with an evaluation activity where students answer questions about a polygon figure

Semi- Detailed Lesson Plan

Mathematics 7

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
a. Identify polygon and non-polygon
b. Determine and illustrate the classification and parts of polygon and;
c. Identify the convex and non-convex polygon

II. CONTENT

A. Topic: Polygons
B. References:
Online References:

C. Instructional Materials: Power point presentation, bond paper

III. LEARNING PROCEDURES

A. Preparation
 Greetings
The teacher will greet the class
 Prayer
The teacher will choose one student to lead the prayer
 Checking of attendance
The monitor of the class will be requested to check the absent in the class.
 Classroom management
The teacher will remind the students about the classroom rules.
 Review
The teacher will review the students about the previous lesson by showing them a figure
and the students will answer the following questions.
Interior Angle Corresponding Angle
Exterior Angle Alternate Interior Angle
Parallel Alternate Exterior Angle

_________1. ∠C, ∠P, ∠J, ∠E

_________2. ∠A and ∠O
_________3. ∠B and ∠P
_________4. ∠L, ∠G, ∠N, ∠A
_________5. ∠K and ∠G

 Motivation
The students will be group according to their birth month and they will arrange the
jumbled letters based on its definition.

1. XTEVRE - It is a point where two lines or rays meet forming an angle

2. VXNOEC- The surface or a line with the measure of all its interior angles are less
than 180 degrees.
3. LREEQILAUTA- it means that the total sides are equal.
4. COVENAC- a surface or a line with at least one interior angle is greater than 180
degrees.
5. RLAUNGAUIQE- it means that all angles are equal.

B. Presentation
The teacher will discuss the following:

1. WHAT IS POLYGON?
“poly” = many
“gon” = angles
Polygons are 2-dimensional shapes. They are made of straight lines, and the shape is
"closed" (all the lines connect up).

2. CHARACTERISTICS OF A POLYGON
 Polygon is a closed plane figure formed by three or more segments called sides
 Has at least three sides (with straight lines called line segments and no curves)
 Have at least three angles

3. CLASSIFICATION OF POLYGON

4. PARTS OF A POLYGON
A. SIDES
The line segments which are connected to each other and intersect at their endpoints
B. VERTEX
The intersection of two segments
C. DIAGONAL
The line segments which are connected to each other and intersect at their endpoints

D C agon

5. CONVEX AND CONCAVE POLYGONS

 A polygon is said to be convex if the measure of all its interior angles is less than 180
degrees and all diagonals are drawn inside the polygon.

 A polygon is said to be non-convex or concave polygon if at least one interior angle

measure greater than 180 degrees and at least one diagonal is drawn outside the polygon

6. REGULAR AND IRREGULAR POLYGON

 REGULAR POLYGONS- all the angles and sides of a polygon are equal

 IRREGULAR POLYGONS- all the angles and sides of a polygon are not equal

ACTIVITY:
I. Write P if the figure is a polygon. Otherwise, write NP.
II. State whether it is convex or concave polygon. Also, classify each polygon.

C. Application
The teacher will ask the student to look inside the classroom and bring something that
represent a polygon.

D. Generalization
The teacher will ask the students the following questions
1. How can we describe a polygon?
2. What are the classifications of polygon?
3. What are the parts of a polygon?
4. What is the difference of convex and concave polygon?

IV. EVALUATION
Use the figure to answer the following questions.
S I

T L

N E

1. Name of the polygon.

2. How many diagonals can be drawn from vertex S?
3. Name the diagonals that can be drawn from vertex S.
4. Is the polygon convex or concave?
5. Is it a regular polygon?
6. How many sides does it have?
7. What do you call TE ?
