GUIDE FOR 2023-25 ASPIRANTS


RELEVANT TOPICS FOR EXTEMPORE – PI
This list has been prepared by the Media Committee. It is not exhaustive, and expected
topics for the extempore will not be limited to this list. Do not limit your preparation to
solely these topics.
1. Finance and economy
• Was post-pandemic resurgence too steep?
• Nifty nearly touched 19k – comment
• India – the fastest growing economy in the world
• India is the 5th largest GDP. Is that enough?
• India is the world’s largest producer of milk, pulses, jute, and spices
• India is the world’s 2nd largest producer of rice, wheat, sugarcane, peanuts,
and cotton
• The cryptocurrency collapse of 2022 (FTX etc)
• Rise of fintech in India
• Pros and cons of digital payments
• Should startups chase valuation or profitability?
• No income tax upto 7.5 lakh – short and long-term effects

2. Science and technology


• Search for clean transport (biofuel, EVs, hydrogen fuel cells)
• Need for alternative materials
• First complete sequencing of the human genome
• Can we move to Mars?
• Existing and potential impacts of ChatGPT
• How close are we to AI taking over the world?

3. Government schemes and activity

• Aadi Mahotsav – how does it help?
• Should reservation be removed?
• Impact of India-Australia ECTA
• Impact of India’s G20 Presidency

4. Global economy
• What do you think about Brazil and Argentina’s proposed common currency?
• Are emerging markets driving innovation?
• Existing and potential effects of China + 1 strategy
5. Issues of society
• Yamuna cleaned itself during COVID-19. Comment.
• Ozone layer is set to self-heal. Comment.
• Can the effects of global warming and climate change be reversed?
• Impact of social media on society
• Impact of digitization on society
• Sedentary lifestyles, bad posture, and fast food
• Comment on increase in incidents of road rage in India
• India’s population: a boon or a curse?

6. Ethics
• Should celebrities use the brands they endorse?
• Should you obey the letter or the spirit of the law?
• Should smoking and drinking be legal?
• We sometimes treat loved ones worse than strangers. Comment.
• Should we move to Mars if possible?
• Should a self-driving car try to save a pedestrian or the passenger in case of
an imminent collision?

7. Miscellaneous

• Rise in Indians heading MNCs
• Does counter-urbanization exist? Why / why not?
