The other challenge of church mission today is devaluation worship. This means
that is now mainly centred on playing music. Worshiping is part of Christian mission
but it has been affected by the desire to love music in church than the word of God. It
should be noted that worshipping involves engagement with God and music is not
the only avenue of engaging God. The devaluing of worship to the point of equating it
with music has affected the church mission by changing the church setting into a
concert setting where music has become the core of Christian worship. Furthermore,
this has made the church more of a corporate worship than an individual worship.
Fake healing has affected the mission of the church. The Mission of the church is to
heal the sick but this has been affected by stage managed healing miracles. Society
no longer trust the church in healing the sick and this has created a major gap
between the sick and the church. Christian mission emphasise healing the sick.
Part of the Christian mission calling is to engage in some humanitarian acts which
help the disadvantaged as well as the society in which the church operates in. This
church mission has been affected by lack of sponsorship as well as corruption by
church leaders who take humanitarian donations into personal use. The church
instead of helping the disadvantaged it has disadvantaged the disadvantaged. This
has led the poor to be poorer and the marginalised more marginalised thereby
affecting the church mission as it is the one which has increased the need of
humanitarian services instead of assisting.
Persecution is another challenge that is affecting the church mission today. Church
leaders have been imprisoned, harassed and interrogated by secular world. For
example, Apostle Chiwenga has been a subject intense persecution by the state
media as well being manhandled by unknown assailants. Furthermore he has been
gagged to speak about the nation called Zimbabwe.
