“Good afternoon! I am Charlene Sanchez , together with me are my groupmates, Ms. Rivera, Ms.
Rodriguez, Ms. Ruegas, Mr. Sarmiento, Mr. Torres and Ms. Velgado and we are from BSCA 3C .”
Before we start, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone for making time
despite your busy schedules especially to our panelists.
“We’re here this afternoon to present our research’s Chapters 1 and 2 about the EMPLOYABILITY OF BS
CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION GRADUATES OF BATCH 2021 OF GORDON COLLEGE IN OLONGAPO CITY.”
Here is the overview of the contents of our chapter one, the problem and its background
We have Introduction
Conceptual Framework
Assumptions
Intro: Cha
Graduates of BSCA batch 2021 of Gordon College aim to have a job after they graduate, but there are
challenges that they had to conquer just to get a decent job related to their program. As we all know,
the labor market is too competitive. So in order to stand out, the skills and knowledge that we gained
from school will be our weapon to get hired. But aside from those skills and knowledge, there are some
factors which affect the employment.
According to Bacelonia, W., & Patinio, F. (2022, June 10), “The country's employment rate improved in
April 2022” Which means that the chances of landing a job is high since we are now recovering from the
damage which the pandemic brought to our economy.
As we all know Gordon College is known for producing competent graduates specially Customs
Graduates. Last 2021, Gordon college’s CBLE passing rate was 41.38% surpassing the National passing
rate which was 34. 35%. Not only that, out of the 16 graduates 12 of them passed and out of those 12
who passed 5 became topnotchers.
According to Calub, C. L. (2016, June 8), “The success of the institution lies in its graduates.” This allows
for employers to have an image for the institution that if the applicants are from the institution, it
creates a branding that these applicants are competent enough for the job.
According to EconoTimes (2021, August 4), “During the 2019 survey, two out of five employers believe
school and college graduates are unprepared for employment.” Although this survey is from 2019, we
can see that there are companies which think that there are graduates who are unprepared for
employment and the school has something to do with it. The unpreparedness of the graduates can also
be one of the factors affecting their employment status.
We decided to conduct this research paper because it piques our interest since Gordon College is one of
the well-known institution for producing Customs Graduates, and as BSCA students, this is an
opportunity for us to study these factors, to learn from it, and the output of this study can also serve as
a preparation guide for Customs broker aspirants like us.
The Purpose of this study is to determine the employability of the Bachelor of Science in Customs
Administration graduates of the Gordon College batch 2021 which includes the factors affecting the
employment status, and it also aims to help enhance or improve the course program.
Conceptual framework illustrates the expected relationship between variables. So in our research the
conceptual framework demonstrates a distinct connection between employment/employability, skills,
and competencies. Paano nga ba nagagain yung knowledge and skills? Ofcourse through the help of the
institution by creating course curricula that are in line with the needs of the sectors their graduates deal
with, the Commission on Higher Education and Gordon College play a significant role in aiding their
graduates in developing these skills and competencies.
In order to determine whether effective yung curriculum in producing graduates who are employable
and whether the competencies and skills acquired are being applied in their jobs, follow-up with thee
graduates will be conducted through this study. If the results are not favorable, it will serve as a wake-up
call and a source of feedback for the Commission on higher education to examine their curriculum and
make improvements.
To sum it up, the employment status/employability is dependent to the skills and how competitive the
applicant is.
In our input, you can see the profile of the BSCA Graduates, the respondents’ employment status, the
impact of the pandemic with regards to the respondents’ learning and job seeking experiences, and
how the BSCA program which helped the respondents in their personal and professional life. Basically
these inputs are based on our Statement of the problem.
Process, which includes the Data gathering procedure which will be further discussed as we go along.
And out of the information gathered is the analyzation and interpretation of data which will be
descriptive in nature.
(Descriptive in nature – paragraph/essay type of interpretation)
And for our output, this research aims to come up with the recommendations which can be offered to
improve or enhance the employability of BSCA Graduates in Gordon College.
After accomplishing this study, the study seeks to answer the ffg questions:
*insert sop*
(explain lang Sop briefly lang since self explanatory naman na yung mga questions)
Example: Our Statement of the problem is bound to be answered at the end of our study.
(Since qualitative tayo, we use assumption. Throughout conducting this study, eto yung mga
pressumptions natin from data gathering up until magather na natin yung data, maanalyze and
magcomeup sa conclusion)
1. The researchers assumed that the interview will elicit reliable resources for the research.
- Throughout the interview we assume that all gathered data will be reliable to our study.
2. The researchers assumed that the target respondents would be reliable sources of knowledge that
would give rise to this research's accomplishment.
- We assume that in selecting our target respondents, we will be able to get accurate and precise data.
Here in our study, our target respondents are the BSCA alumni of 2021 because they are the only ones
who can give answers to our questions since this study is all about their employability.
3. The researchers assumed that there are various factors affecting the employment status of customs
administration graduates of batch 2021.
- Before conducting this study, we already assumed that there will be factors affecting the respondents’
employability.
4. The researchers assumed that the institution of Gordon College relies on the passing rate and
employability rate of customs administration graduates.
- This explains why the institutions not only Gordon College but also other Colleges, State Universities,
and Universities monitor their passing rate.
5. The Researchers assumed that it would be able to deeply explain the objective of the research to its
target respondents, as well as to its readers.
- Before conducting the interview, the researchers must be clear of their intention on why they conduct
this study. In this manner we will be able to deeply explain the objective of the research to its target
respondents, as well as to its readers.
(Yung scope and limitation ng study natin is from employment status to factors affecting the
employment status lang)
• To the institution: As said earlier, the recommendations of this study can be offered to improve
or enhance the employability of BSCA Graduates in Gordon College and can help its students
enhance their skills or reach their goals.
• To the Customs Administration Graduates: This study will allow them to know the common
factors among the graduates which affects their employment status. And can also benefit from
the action plan which will be facilitated by the institution, if there’s any, or a bridge for
collaboration with the LGU for job fairs.
• To the Customs Administration Students: As Customs Broker aspirants, this study gives us the
opportunity to study the factors which our seniors encountered during their job search. It also
gives us the opportunity to use this knowledge and information as a preparation once we enter
the corporate world.
• To the Future Researchers: This study can be used as a related literature of the future research
studies with the same objective.
Chapter 2:
The researchers will use a qualitative approach. We use qualitative approach because we focus on
employment status and the factors affecting the respondent’s employment status. The factors will
depend on the respondents because they have different perceptions, ideas, and experience and it will
be based on the truth as to how the respondents perceive it.
Since we only have limited respondents, a qualitative approach will be used to gather precise data from
the insights, experiences, opinions and underlying reasons of the respondents.
The interpretation of data will be descriptive in nature. The researchers will be focusing on a certain
demographic segment. Demographic segment refers to a certain grp of people sharing the same distinct
characteristics such as education, in which our respondents are all Customs Graduates, same batch
within the same institution.
Respondents: Vane
The respondents of the study are the graduates of Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration of
Gordon College batch 2021. The institution has a total of 16 Customs graduates in 2021. They are the
main source of information of this study.
The study will take place at Gordon College located at Olongapo City Sports Complex, East Tapinac,
Olongapo City. Gordon College, Olongapo City is a local college operating under the City Government of
Olongapo City established in 1999. Gordon College has made its name for being a well-known Customs
Administration School in Luzon and has produced competent graduates throughout the years.
The research instrument used in this study is an interview questionnaire via google form which is
formulated by the researchers. The researchers use this kind of research instrument to gather precise
data since the questions are formulated by the researchers themselves, and through the use of google
form, it allows instant result from the interview.
The first question in the questionnaire includes the profile of the respondents, which consists of Name
which is optional if the respondent agrees to be known or not due to confidentiality, Age, Gender,
Employment Status, and whether they are Board Passers or not.
The remaining questions in the questionnaire consist of a dichotomous question which is answerable by
yes or no, a multiple choice type of question to assess items consisting of a stem, which poses the
question or problem, followed by a list of possible responses, also known as options or alternatives.
Open-ended questions are also used in the remaining part of the questionnaire.
(Bale dito ieexplain lang kung ano research instrument natin, bakit ayun yung napili nating instrument
and yung type ng questions na makikita sa questionnaire natin.)
The instrument that the researchers used is a questionnaire form via google form which is constructed
by the researchers intended to be asked during the interview to gather more accurate and precise data.
The researchers will conduct an interview through a google form questionnaire from Gordon College's
alumni from the Customs Administration program batch 2021. The purpose of the interview is to gather
information which can answer the questions in the SOP. And from those answers, we can come up with
our interpretations which allow us to construct our conclusion and recommendations.
The purpose of the study and the directions for answering the interview will be explained to the
respondent before the administration of the questions. The questions consist of a dichotomous or yes or
no question, multiple choices, and open-ended questions, structured and prepared in advance.
Thank you for listening and as we bring our presentation to a close, we once again thank you for
allowing us to be here this afternoon. We are now open for questions.
