Chua - Cedrich - Walk On Holy Ground
FAITH
Although it took a few replays, I found all 3 models of faith in the song. The most
evident model was the fiducial model, which was evident to me when the song stated
‘Lord, I will go where you will lead me.’ This part of the song emphasized the fact that
God is more of a revealer and a guide rather than a savior. Faith is more akin to trust in
this model, which I noticed when listening to the lyrics mentioned previously. I believe
trusting the lord to lead you throughout your life is the greatest example of this model as
it allows you to live by the promises of God.
Moving on, I noticed the performative model of faith shortly after the fiducial model. It
was evident to me during the lyrics ‘I will walk on holy ground’ and ‘I will find you in the
crowd.’ I believe this aligns with the performative model of faith as it is about taking
action to shape one’s belief and understanding of faith. In this model, faith is seen as
something that is lived out and embodied in one's actions and practices, rather than
simply believed or held in the mind. It suggests that faith is not only about what one
believes but about how one lives; the way one lives can shape and inform one's beliefs.
Hence, I believe actively looking for the Lord amongst the crowd of noise, distraction,
and temptation is a strong sign of faith.
Furthermore, I found the intellectual model of faith last during the lyrics ‘Lord, you
came to set the captives free and to heal the broken-hearted, reaching out to those in
need. Servant of the poor, now you send me as your sign of love for all humanity.’ In
this model, faith is seen as something that is primarily a matter of the mind or intellect,
something that is believed or held to be true based on the information or knowledge that
one has. It suggests that faith is primarily a cognitive or intellectual activity, in which
one's beliefs and understanding of faith are shaped by one's ability to reason and
understand. I believe these lyrics align with the intellectual model of faith because it
finds support in the scriptures. It was said that the Lord came to those who needed him
most. Additionally, it has also been stated that he sent his apostles to teach and testify
of Jesus throughout the world. I believe these lyrics closely resemble some of the
writings in the scriptures, which is why I believe it is part of the intellectual model of
faith.
To conclude, I believe we may all have different interpretations of faith. Our answers
may differ from one another based on our own experiences with faith. However, there is
no one thing that is called ‘faith.’ It is a vague concept that can be opened to
interpretation by many.
