Girl doll with big eyes and big breast. She is a soubrette.

Black woolen dress with white cotton collar and cuffs.
White cotton apron and headdress.
Brassiere and panties. Petticoat of tulle. Knee socks.

How to make 1/2 girl doll

A soft cloth doll in lace clothes.
You can make life-size doll by enlarging the pattern.

Half size doll named Mochiko.

78 centimeters in stature. B41cm, W28cm, H42cm.
Blue eyes, dark brown hair, and pink lips.
Body is fat, rather realistic.

If you are a beginner, this may be difficult.

Only people who have spirit of endeavor and improvement will do it.
I don't post how to make her outer clothes. Please make good clothes for your doll.

So even if you print this pattern in 200%, the doll may not be 200%.

Materials
 For base, flannel cotton, sheeting or broadcloth.
 For stuff, polyester fiberfill, cotton batting, wires.
 For skin, stretch fabric.
 For hair, yarn.
 For clothes, any cloth.

White stretch fabric, pink stretch fabric, white broadcloth, cotton flannel, cotton batting, lace.

Girl doll Body base

To make the breast thick, shrink the circumference with small stitch.
Cutting
Draw body patterns on cloth.
Bust and hips are flannel cotton, others are sheeting or broadcloth.
Cut out with 0.5cm allowance.
Breast
Sew the upper breast.

Stitch around the nipple.

Put a small pill of cotton batting in the nip, and pull the thread.
Gather around the breast cup.

Sew the breast to the body.

Outside.

Sew and stuff

Sew the back.
Sew the darts of the hips.
Sew the hips to the upper back.
Sew up the back and front.
Needed gathering the lower line of the back hips.
Stuff polyester fiberfill in the body.
Color the top with eye shadow.

Girl doll Head and face

Refer to tall boy's head and face, or basic girl's, kimono doll and so on.
Head base
Make the base.

This doll has the paper nose.

Cut out thick paper triangle, fold it.
Glue cotton batting inside.
Glue it on the face.

Glue thin cotton on the nose.

Put the lips. See tall boy's lips.
Glue a strip of cotton on the cheek and chin.

Cover with stretch fabric.

Paint features
Needs seam allowance (0.5cm).
Sew the skin cover.
At first, sew uo the back of head (L-M).

Sew the back and side (P-O-N-M-N-O-P).

Cover the head with skin fabric.

Paint eyes and lips.

Stitch the crown top.

Girl doll Covering and arms

This is difficult process. Use a long needle and strong thread. Pull the thread strongly.

Covering
Put the neck in the body.
Stitch it firmly with a thick thread.
Cover the body.

Draw up the cover of the back and pierce the needle from A to B.
Pierce the needle from B to C to A.
Pierce From A to C.
Needle from D to E to C to A.
Pull down the cover of the back. The end of the thread is hidden.

Arms
Make the arms.
See tall boy's arm. The same making, but wrist joint is omitted.
Close the opening of the base.

Stick the wires on the shoulder. Stitch the base of arm to the shoulder.
Stitch the cover.

Girl doll Legs

Same as tall boy's legs. But this girl's thighs are separated.

Leg making
Sew the legs.
Turn inside out.
Stuff polyester fiberfill.
Make the knees.
Joint them with a thick thread.

Sew stretch fabric.

Cover the leg.
Stitch the toes. The way is the same as the base of the toe of tall boy. (you may omit)
Stitch the base of leg to the body.

Sew the cover with ladder stitch.

Groove by thread
Make a groove (A - D) and a navel (B - C) with a thick thread.
Stitch the thread a few times.
Front.

Girl doll Ears and hair

I use thin acrylic yarn for hair.

Attach the ears

If you mind the slack of the chin, stretch a transparent thread from ear to ear.

In this picture, I use thick white thread to show clearly.

Make ears. Refer to baby's ear.

Attach them to the face.

Hair
Sew the darts of crown cover.

Put the cover on the head and stitch around.

Bunch yarn.
The longer is side hair. Tie at the middle.
Another is forelock and back. Sew at near the front.
Refer to Nekomimi doll.

Glue hair on the crown cover.

Give her a haircut.

The doll was completed.

Girl doll Lingerie

Brassiere and shorts of stretch lace. Refer to swimsuit and brassiere for sewing.

Bra
Cut lace and fabric.
Sew the darts.
Trim the cup.
Sew the band.
Attach the straps and ribbons.

Panty
Cut fabric and lace.
Sew up the side.
Attach ornaments if you like.
Sew the elastic or stretch tape.

Put on.

Make any clothes you like and dress her gorgeously.

Basic doll
Soft cloth doll in simple clothes. 80 centimeters.

This doll is the base of my dolls.

You may want to make Nekomimi doll, 1/2 girl doll, tall boy doll, or life-size baby doll.
Before making them, you should see the process of this doll.
And you will understand quick and easily.

Basic doll / Materials and tools

Please refer to materials page too.

Materials of doll
 Cloth for bases.
I use cheap cotton cloth which is rougher than broadcloth.
A doll of cheap cotton is fatter than broadcloth doll only a little.
 Stretch fabric for skin.
 Cloth for base of neck. I use cotton flannel.
Soft and thick cloth is good ... towel, wool, or fleece.
 Cloth for lining of arm and ear.
I use cotton lawn. Thin cloth is OK.
 An applicator cotton for nose.
 Stick is the bone of neck. I use bamboo chopstick.
 Polyester fiberfill.
 Cotton batting.
 Woolen yarn.
Fiberfill, cotton batting,
yarn, applicator, bamboo stick,
white stretch fabric, stretch fabric of skin color, cotton lawn, cheap cotton cloth, cotton flannel.

Tools
 Sewing kit (sewing machine, needles, scissors, awl, chalk, and so on).
If you don't use a sewing machine, hand-sew with small back stitches.
 Threads.
o Ordinary thread for base sewing. I use polyester. But silk is better.
o Thick thread for jointing.
o Silk or nylon thread of the same color as skin.
 Tacky glue.
 Big stick for stuffing.
 Thin stick (like a knitting needle) for turning.
 Acrylic colors and small brush. I use Ceramcoat.
  Rouge for cheeks.
 Scale and rule.

Glue, brushes, powder rouge, threads,

colors, needles,
palette,
marker, pencil, chalk, ripper, awl, scissors, sticks.
Basic doll / Head
It is important to make the chin firm and hard.
Base of head
Cut the pieces of head with 0.5 centimeter margin.

Sew up middle of the front (A-a-B).

Sew up middle of back (A-d-D) and the chin to neck (B-c-C).
Make notches on the margin of the throat (c).
Sew up front and back around (A-b-B-b-A).
Turn inside out.
Filling
Stuff into the head with the polyester fiberfill through the opening of the neck.
Stuff the filling into corner solidly.
Not stuff into the neck.

Make the neck

Put some glue on the cloth whose width is 10 centimeters.
Let it roll around a stick.
This is the base of neck.
Insert the base into the head.
Stitch the head cloth to the base of the neck roughly.

Put the nose

Cut applicator cotton.
Open a hole on the face. Insert the applicator with glue.
Skin cover
It needs 2 covers -- "skin" and "under skin".
Under skin is lighter color.
Fold each fabric.
The facial pattern doesn't contain seam allowance.
Add seam allowance of 0.5cm to the seam line. Top and bottom have no margin.
Turn inside out.
Wrap the base of head with the under skin.
Pull fabric and remove a sag.

Fit the crown of the head and pin the hem.

Stitch the hem of under skin to the base of head with thick thread.
Wrap with the skin fabric, too. Don't stitch yet.
Cheek augmentation
If you mind the wrinkles of face-line, glue a little cotton batting on the seam.
If you like full cheeks, glue soft cotton balls on the cheeks.
Which is full?

asic doll / Face

Dollmaker's individuality appears on the face of doll.

Paint features
You should paint the face as you like.
Now I don't do iron-on transfer.
Draft out outlines with a pencil or marker.

Paint with acrylic colors.

Rouge the cheeks.
Put eye shadow if you like.
Skin stitch
Stitch the skin fabric at neck and crown.
The same way of the under skin.

Cut the cover of scalp and sew its darts.

Only darts need seam allowance.
Put the cover on the head and stitch.

Ears
Put two sheets of stretch fabric among two sheets of thin cloth.
And sew the ears around.
It is economical to use the remnants of arms.
Cut with margin of 0.2 - 0.3 centimeters.
Open a small hole on one side.
Turn inside out.
Put a little fiberfill in the ear. Close the opening.
Stitch the ear to the head around the opening.
This ear is the same type as 1/2 girl, life-size baby, and kimono doll.
Basic doll / Hair
This hair style is side-parting.
Cut wool yarn
Cut woolen yarn and make 2 bunches.
One is shorter than another a little.

Layer thin paper, long bunch, thin paper, and shorter bunch.
Sew at the middle with small stitches.
The length of seam is about 9 centimeters.
Move the shorter hair on another side.
Remove the paper.

Turn the bunch over, and move the longer hair on another side.
Remove the paper all.
And the seam will be hidden.
Set hair
Glue the yarn to the crown at the seam.
Glue the inside yarn on the scalp.
Trim the length of hair if needed.

The doll has been completed.

Making wavy hair
Plait the yarn and clip every end. I used safety pins.
Iron out with lots of steam. Unravel the braids after dry.
The wave will disappear in several months.

Basic doll / Arms

Easy hand like a mitten. You needn't care which is the left or right.

Sew up arms
Draw pattern of arm on thin cloth which is lining.
Put two sheets of stretch fabric among two sheets of lining cloth.
Sew up.

Cut out carefully. Seam allowance is 0.5 centimeters.

But 0.2cm or less for around the thumb.
Turn inside out. Use thin stick when turn the thumb.
Stuff the arm
At first, stuff cotton batting into the thumb.
Roll the cotton around thin stick tightly.
Rolled cotton is longer than the thumb.
Insert it in the thumb and pull out only the stick.
Stuff polyester filling in the palm and arm softly.
Hands with fingers
Used pattern of "Hand B".
Sew, cut, and turn.

Stitch lines between fingers with a thread of the same color.

This is an example of hand-sewing.
You can use a sewing machine.
Put cotton batting in every finger.
The length of cotton is from fingertip to wrist.
Stuff polyester fiberfill in the palm and arm.

"Hand C". Divided fingers.

Stuffing is the same as above.
Basic doll / Body
The thighs unite with the body.
Sew the body base
Cut out front body and back body with 0.5 centimeter margin.

Sew the each dart (breasts, front, hips, and back).

Sew up front and back.
Cut between the legs. You may cut before sewing.
Make notches.
Turn inside out.
Stuff with polyester filling
Stuff from the opening of the neck.

Don't stuff in the groin.

Upper of the chest, dividing filling into either side so as to insert the neck easier.
If you fill it good, it sits stably.
When the groin is thick, sew the front through the back.
You can sew it before stuffing hips.
Instant breasts
When you want to give her ample bosom, glue balls of cotton batting.
I don't think too big breast suits her.
Body cover
Cut stretch fabric with seam allowance (0.5cm).

Sew the darts of hips.

Sew up the sides of front and back.
Turn inside out.
Basic doll / Legs
Stuff with polyester fiberfill solidly and smooth.

Sew the base of feet

Draw the pattern to the double cloth.
Sew both sides (A-a-B and C-D).
Don't sew the knee (A-C) nor toe (B-D).
Cut out with 0.5 centimeter margin.
Notch on the margin of the ankles.

Spread the margin of the toe and fit on seams.

Draw the line of toe.
Distinguish the right and the left.
Sew the toe and cut off extra margin.
Turn inside out.
Stuffing
Stuff with polyester fiberfill.
Stitch the opening of the knee with a thick thread.
Stuffed legs.
Join
Stitch leg to thigh at the sides with a thick thread.
Covering
Fold the stretch fabric, and draw the pattern of leg cover.
Sew the back line. It doesn't contain the margin.
Cut 0.5cm outside of the seam.
Turn inside out.
Cover the base of leg.
Stitch the hem to base.

Plus knee
She has dented knees although Tall boy's are roundish.
If you like small effort, attach simple knees.
Wrap a ball of cotton batting with stretch fabric, and stitch.
Make it a ring.
Put it on the knee, and stitch at the back.
At the front, stitch only upper side.
Covered.
Basic doll / Put together
When stitching the neck, use a thick thread.
Body cover
Put the cover on the body entirely.

Fold the margin of hem inside, and stitch it to the legs.

Between the legs, sew the hem of front and back.
And the bases are all hidden.
Put the head
Insert the neck into the body.
Stitch the neck to the body tightly.
Put arms
Fold the end of the opening of the arm and sew to close.
Stitch the arm to the shoulder.
Basic doll / Underwear
If you make brassiere, downsize 1/2 girl's bra.
Pants
Cut the cloth with 0.5 centimeter margin.
I used stretch cotton and stretch lace.

Fold the margin of hem outside or inside.

Stretch the lace, and sew it to the hem.
Sew up the sides.
Sew the lace on the waist.
Other materials.
Panties of no-stretch cloth need elastic strings at the waist and groin.

Slip
Cut thin cloth in 50cm width × 25cm length.
Cut laces.
The narrow stretch lace becomes shoulder straps.
Wider stretch lace is for the chest.
Non stretch lace for the hem.
Sew the lace to the bottom.
Sew the stretch lace to the upper.
Fold in two and sew up. The seam is back.

Gather stretch lace at the front.

Sew a ribbon.
Sew narrow lace to wide lace.
You can make it in any length.

Basic doll / Shoes

Right-and-left shoes which are easy to make.

Materials
Felt and ribbon.

Thick material which is not to be frayed suits for shoes.

When using ordinary cloth, set up a interlining and hem on the edge.

Making shoes
Cut the felt with margin of 0.5 centimeters or less.
But upper edge doesn't need margin.
Make small holes.

Sew up the front of instep.

Stitch the edge and front.
Sew the sole to instep.
Turn inside out.
Pass a ribbon (30-35 centimeters) through holes.

Basic doll / Skirt

Circle skirt with gathers and flare. Thin cloth is good.

Cutting
Cut the cloth in a circle. This has diameter of 80 centimeters.
At its center, make a hole, which must be larger than waist.
Cut the opening in 10cm at the back.
Waistband is 4cm × 25cm.
Contains seam allowance.
Sewing
Fold the edge of opening, and stitch.
Make gathers on the hole, and sew it to waistband.

If the hole of waist is minimum (7cm dia), need not make gathers.
Fold the waistband inside, and stitch.
Attach snaps, button, or hook and eye.
Fold the hem and stitch.
This skirt is knee length.
Easier making
When using an elastic tape, it doesn't need gathering nor opening.
Cloth Doll Making
How to make dolls

Basic doll / Blouse

Red lines on off-white ground. You can omit the lines.

Materials
Cloth.
Ribbon. I use sateen ribbon of 0.35cm width.
Bias tape. 15cm.
4 snaps.

Cutting
Cut the cloth.
The pattern doesn't have seam allowance.
Add 1cm margin to the hem of bodice and sleeve.
1.4cm to the opening of back.
Others need 0.5cm.
Sewing
Sew ribbons on collars and sleeves.

Sew up collar and inside collar.

Trim the margin in 0.3cm.
Turn inside out.
Sew the darts of front.
Sew up shoulders.

Sew the collars to neckline with bias tape.

Notch the margin.
Fold the margin and tape inside, and stitch.
Sew the sleeves to bodice.
Sew up the sides.
Fold the margin of hem and stitch.
You may stitch by sewing machine.
Fold the opening of back three, and stitch.
Sew snaps.
Front and back.
Basic doll / Cap
Simple and easy cap which doesn't need pattern.

Sewing
Cut cloth in a circle (crown) and a rectangle (band).
Circle's diameter is 20 - 24 centimeters.
Rectangle is 5cm width. Length is circumference of head + 2cm.
They contain seam allowance.

Sew a ribbon on the band.

And sew and make it a ring.
If the cloth is thin, attach interlining.
Gather the crown at edge.
Fold the band in half, and sew it to the crown.
Zigzag stitch or lock stitch on the margin.
Attach a ribbon if you like.
Put on.

Basic doll / Dress

Decorative dress of white cotton. Such fashion is called "white Lolita."
Bodice
Cut the bodices and sleeves.
At the opening of back, the seam allowance is 1.5cm, others are 0.5cm.

Sew the darts.

Sew up the shoulder of front and back.
Make notches at the margin of the neckline, and fold it inside.
Sew lace of 3cm width to the neckline.
Sew lace and ribbons.

Sew laces to the sleeves.

Gather the sleeve and sew it to the bodice.
Sew up the sides.
Pass through elastics in the cuffs.

Skirt
This example, the skirt is 110cm × 20cm.
The frill is 220cm × 10cm. Lace 220cm × 4cm.
Sew each to a ring.
The opening of skirt is about 10cm.
Gather the frill and lace together, and sew them to skirt.
Attach another frill with lace.
Make gathers at the skirt, and sew it to the bodice.

Fold the opening three, and stitch.

Sew snaps.
The uppermost pair of snaps is plastic. Because it is on the lace.

Extra sleeves
Put them on the arms. The dress looks long-sleeved.
Cutting. The seam allowance is 0.5cm except topside which is 1cm.

Attach lace as you like.

Sew up the side.
Pass elastic through the top.
Basic doll / Bonnet
White bonnet with lace and ribbon.
Making
Cut brim and inside brim with 0.5cm margin.
Attach interlining to each piece.

If you don't want to use interlining, make the inside brim of felt.
Sew gathered (or tucked) laces on the inside brim.
Cut the parts of crown.
They need 0.5cm allowance.

Sew the back crown to the side crown. (A-C-D)

Sew up back crown at the middle. (E-F)
2 crowns are made. One is the lining.
Sew the brim to crown. (B-A-E-A-B)
Sew the inside brim to liner crown.
Sew up both at the edge of brim. (B-G-H-G-B)
When sewing B-G, insert a ribbon (30cm length).
Turn inside out.
Fold the margin of bottom, and close with ladder stitch. (B-D-F-D-B)
Attach more lace and ribbon as you like.
Basic doll / Socks and shoes
Lolita girls like platform shoes. Knee socks with lace too.
Socks
Cut stretch fabric.
Use pattern of leg cover. You may make them in any length.
Sew gathered lace loosely.

Attach ribbons if you like.

Thick-soled shoes
Cut felt and paper.
Scallop the upper side.
About margin, see the photo below.
Sew up the back of instep (D-C). Do the side sole (C-h).
Shorten the toe of instep with small stitches. (B-A-B)

Glue the instep to paper insole.

Glue the side heel to another insole.
Stick both together with strong glue.
Glue paper to the inside of sole.
The paper is thick a little.
Stitch the sole to side sole. (e-f-g-h-g-f-e)
Stuff polyester fiberfill in the sole.
Ornament
Cut the strap and flower. Stitch the strap.
Sew the one side of flower. Roll it, and tie the bottom.
Sew it to the strap.
Sew a pair of snaps to the strap, and sew it to the back.
Attach a ribbon on the front.
Basic doll / Drawers and corset
Underwear for white dress.

Drawers
Pattern of drawers is short leg. You should lengthen it.
Cut cloth. Seam allowance is 0.5cm.

Attach lace.
Sew up the length of leg.
Sew up the rise.

Make the waist three folds, and stitch.

Pass a elastic tape through the waist.
Pass thin elastic strings through the hems.

Corset
These corsets cannot shape up the body.
Cut cloth. Add margin except top and bottom side.
This cloth is stretch a little and thick just a little.
Sew darts. sew up sides.
Stitch on the margin.
Sew lace to on the hem.
Sew lace on the opening of back.
Lace up a string.
You can make eyelets. But using holes of the lace is easier.
Corset, drawers and socks.
This is made of non-stretch sheer lace.
Basic doll / Pannier
Hard tulle with plentiful gathers makes the skirt extended.

Sewing
The pattern of pannier is separated. Stick upper and lower at B line.
That is half. Make it double.
Cut 2 bases. One is front, another is back.

Sew up the sides. Hem with lace.

Cut tulle in 220cm × 26cm.
Sew it a ring, and fold in two. The crease is bottom.
Gather and sew it on B line.
Similarly, sew another tulle (160cm × 52cm) on A line.
Sew stretch lace or elastic tape to the waist.
You may sew a waistband, and put an elastic through.
The length is shorter than the skirt a little.
You can alter the size of tulle.
Basic doll / Bag
A heart-shaped bag with lace and ribbon.

Making
Cut cloth. Front and back need seam allowance of 0.5 centimeters.
Side cloth is a rectangle (2.5cm × 28cm roughly).
Felt cloth is good for a bag.
I used thin cloth which was strengthened with interlining.
Sew a fastener (10cm) to the side cloth.
Make it ring of 36cm.

Cut a thin string in four. One is 3 or 4cm.

Attach a folded short string to A.
Sew the side to the front.
And Sew the back to the side.
Turn inside out.
Attach lace, ribbon or other ornaments.
Put 2 handles (of cord or ribbon) through the strings.

Basic doll / Hat

Reversible hat of denim and cotton.
Making
Each piece needs seam allowance of 0.5cm.
Sew up the crown. Sew up the back of brim.

Sew the brim to the crown.

Sew up the hem of brims except the opening.
Turn inside out.
Close the opening with ladder stitch.
Boy's hat is made by the same pattern.

Basic doll / Boy doll (application)

Why not make a boy doll in the same way?
80 centimeters in height. Black hair and gray eyes.

T-shirt and sweat shirt (stretch cotton), pants (corduroy).

Socks and brown leather shoes.
These clothes were made for tall boy doll before.
The sleeves are long, and pants are narrow.

Alter the pattern

Using the same pattern of basic doll, of course, you can make a doll of boy.
If altering the body a little, it will be more boylike.
Process of hair setting
His hair is made of fur fabric.
Cut fur in a trapezoid.
Sew up the sides.
Gather up the upper. It becomes a cap.
Trim the hem if needs.
Glue it on the head.
Tall boy doll
Slim and tall boy doll with curly hair.

80 centimeter boy doll.

The body and clothes are elaborate.
