Content: Adaptation for Struggling Writers
Content Standard: Acquire understanding of the procedures that a skilled writer takes when writing, and enhance
their writing abilities.
Learning Competency: Student will be able to write with proficiency, adhering to the rules of accepted English
grammar and usage.
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:
a. discover the different text type and analyze its distinct features,
b. analyze the distinctive features of text type, and
c. demonstrate the writing process by composing a character sketch.

A. Preliminary Activity

B. Motivation (3 minutes)
Q & A Portion!
The teacher will start the class by facilitating a game in which student is place in a situation where they need to
answer questions found in a beauty pageant. It is to examine if student has the capability of forming coherence
and cohesion with their ideas relevant to the lesson. The student will encounter the following question:
 How will you describe your ideal man/woman?
 What’s the admirable trait of your mother that you love the most?
 If you’ll be one of our national heroes, who would that be and why?
 What distinct characteristics must the next leader of our country should possess?

C. Lesson Proper (20 minutes)


Discussion
Teacher will provide a model text of a genre and together with the class they will analyze its distinctive features.
Student will be given handouts containing different example of text type.

Text type : A text is a piece of writing that you read or create.The type or the characteristics of a text are very
important for any work of summarisation on it. It is easier to select the main ideas from certain types of texts, as
the narrative ones (texts “telling a story”) then from others, such as expository texts (texts “speaking about”).
The type of a texts depend on their purpose, structure and language features. One of the most commonly used
classification text materials is that one based on text’s purpose and meaning. In this classification, there are three
main categories:
 Expository texts
 Narrative texts, and
 Argumentative texts.

ABSTRACTION (5 minutes)
Then while in discussion the teacher will engage with the student by asking them to identify the following:
 The characteristic language of the genre (formal or informal, the expressions or vocabulary and
grammar used to convey meaning.)
 The linking words and transitions used to connect the sentences of the text.
 The format or layout of the text.

ANALYSIS (10 minutes)


Activity and Discussion
The teacher assigns an activitiy to train the students in using the right type of language, linking words, and layout.
The students will work on the language and format of the genre by answering the sentence completion activity
sheet . After understanding the topic, the teacher will introduce the student with the Writing Process:
 Planning: Learners are prompted to collect as many ideas about the topic as possible through
tasks such as brainstorming, discussions, chart filling, quick write, answers to questions, etc.
 Drafting: This is the first version of the writing. Students shouldn’t be concerned with accuracy
at this stage.
 Revising: When they finish writing their first draft, students are encouraged to look at the overall
organization of the text, paying attention to whether the ideas included are relevant, getting rid
of those that don’t fit, and adding more ideas if need be. They should understand that the
reader should be able to follow their line of thoughts.
 Editing: At this stage, learners focus on tidying up their drafts. They check diction (i.e., the choice
of words), grammar, and mechanics (e.g., spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.)
 Editing can be done by the learners themselves (i.e. self-editing) or with the help of their peers
(i.e. peer editing).
 Final draft: The final draft is the final version of the text. To recognize and value the students’
productions, help them publish their writing online such as on the class blog, Facebook group, or
wiki.

APPLICATION (7 minutes)
Pick a Topic!
Student will be assign to different topic by picking out form the pool of topics. Given with topic they will construct
a paragraph regarding the topic they have picked following the writing process previously discussed to them.

D. Generalization (5 minutes)
To recapulate the lesson in this day, the teacher will ask the student these following questions:
 What is a text type?
 What are the three categories of text type?
 What are the steps in writing? Enumerate the Writing Process.

IV. EVALUATION (10 minutes)


Create a Character Sketch!
Ask the students to write a character sketch of person that influence them a lot. The teacher has to remind them
to: List down important character traits they’ve notice in that person. Choose one which they want to emphasize
on they’re essay. Recall or collect enough details and decide what overall impression that their subject has made
on them. Use those impressions as starting point so they could begin with their first draft.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Instruction: Rewrite or finalized the character sketch that the student have done and pass a printed output of it.
