Principles of Writing Good English-1
Principles of Writing Good English-1
Principles:
There are certain principles of writing in English language which can improve your writing skills and can
make your paragraph/essay/articles etc. effective.
2. No Grammatical Error:
Grammatical errors make your writing unprofessional and unreadable. Grammar gives structure to
your writing so if you messed up with grammar, you have simply knocked down the structure of
your writing.
3. Punctuation:
In this world of instant messaging we have completely forgotten about the importance of
punctuation. Punctuation matters a lot; in some cases, the meaning of sentence is completely
changed just by taking out punctuation marks and in some other cases it is difficult and irritating
to read without punctuation marks’ support.
e.g. I ordered a pizza burger regular fries and cold drink
I ordered a pizza, burger, regular fries and cold drink.
It’s time to eat, Aslam.
It’s time to eat Aslam
4. Unity:
Unity means that all parts of your writing are connected with each other. It shouldn’t feel
like; after every sentence you’re talking about a different thing. They should be written in
a sequence with the help of transitory words. Unified writing is easy to understand and it
enables your audience make connection with your thoughts. Unity in a paragraph shows
your professionalism and the expertise of conveying the message effectively. In simple
words data should be organized.

5. Use of Pronouns:
The basic purpose of using pronouns instead of nouns is to avoid repetition, to make your writing
clearer and smooth. Moreover, pronouns are also used to refer to something e.g. other person
(specific or common), ourselves, some object (specific or common) etc. In writing, you are
talking to a single person and you have to make the reader feel like you are talking to
him/her. This can be accomplished by using pronouns like you, I etc.
e.g. There may be barriers in your path but you can make through it.
In this example pronouns you and your will make reader connect with your feelings.
Observing:
This step involves thinking and understanding the assignment.
First step of this part is to understand the task assigned to you e.g. if you’re assigned to write an
essay then understand which type of essay you want to write or is allocated to you.
After that decide the topic of your task, while deciding you have to keep in mind the audience
who are going to read it. It should appeal to your audience .
Next step is brainstorming about the ideas and outline of your topics. Make an organized image
in your mind that how your task should look like? And how organized will it be?
Your writing should be based on facts and figures; it should not contain unrealistic or
inappropriate information which is far from reality.
It should contain the information you saw and shouldn’t be based on what you think you saw
which means you have to be clear in your thoughts.
Each sentence of the paragraph/essay/article should have the ability to stand alone and give full
meaning to the reader. It should not look like they are not linked to each other; every sentence
will give information about other sentence so the reader could understand our thoughts.
You should try to convince reader by adding verification quotes in your writing. It will give a
sense of feeling to the reader that data written in it is authorized and fully based on facts. It will
help to convince the reader to your thinking.
In the end you should describe the setting of your task and the materials used to fulfill it.
Audience Collecting:
Next step in writing process is audience collecting; some important points of this step are given below:
A writer always writes keeping in mind a specific audience for whom he/she is writing or whom he/she
thinks they would love to read it. Because a writing is always written on a specific topic which may
attract a certain audience but may disappoint the other.
So first of all you should keep in mind your targeted audience then make a list of the websites or
bookshops you’ll search to find your desired information.
Search for books and research papers that you think can help you find the information; while
doing research make an outline of your search or organize your research so that it is easy for you
to write about it.
Composing:
Composing process refers to the entire writing process, including the three phases of imagination,
reflection, and revision. The author repeats certain tasks such as reasoning, repetition, and word search.
In writing composing is an important part, after doing all the research and collecting all the data you have
to repeat the process, again imagine your topic, collect needed data from your research and organize them
according to your imagination.
Drafting:
Drafting includes that you have to write the researched information
you have to create an organized form of it, doesn’t matter whether it is perfect or not but you have
to write all the information you gathered through research and after that proofread it.
You will proofread it to make sure that you have written everything you meant and have
conveyed your message.
Repeat this process for two or three times until you are convinced that you have shared all the
information with the reader.
Revising:
Last step of writing process is to revise what you have written.
Read your writing and rearrange it in order to make your thoughts clearer and make sure they
have a chronological order.
If you think that you need to take out some parts which are not giving your desired information
or add some important parts, then do it in this step.
After revising if you feel like you need to make some more research then search for it and avoid
using same words again.
In the end read it again and repeat the process if you’re not convinced. Repeat it until you are
convinced with you what you have written.
Process of writing missing.
