Beige Minimal Creative Portfolio - Presentation PDF

This document discusses applying learner-centered principles to teaching preschoolers. It outlines four clusters of principles: cognitive/metacognition, motivational/affective, developmental/social, and individual differences. For each cluster, one principle is selected for elaboration on how it can be applied in teaching preschoolers. For example, the principle of constructing knowledge is applied by observing how preschoolers build understanding through play, experimentation and interaction. Assessment of preschoolers considers their progression and areas needing support to guide learning. Overall, the document provides guidance on a learner-centered approach tailored for preschool education.

DIRECTION
For each of the four clusters, pick one principle. Refer to Module 1's complete list of
the 14 principles. Explain how this principle can be applied in all areas of the
teaching-learning process involving preschoolers based on your knowledge of and
understanding of preschool learners.

CONSTRUCTION OF KNOWLEDGE

ELABORATION OF PRINCIPLES FOR PRESCHOOL LEARNERS

Children learn by playing. This is something we often say, but what does it mean?.
Children are active participants in developing their own understanding since birth. They
accomplish this by experimenting, observing, and interacting with other children and adults.
Children construct knowledge and build on what they already know.
Each child is observed by adults. They observe the children as they work with the materials
and toys. Teachers create an environment in which preschoolers can build on what they
already know.

MOTIVATIONAL & EMOTIONAL INFLUENCES ON LEARNING
-The motivation of the learners influences what and how much is learned. Individuals' motivation
to learn is influenced by their emotional states, beliefs, interests, goals, and thinking habits.

ELABORATION OF PRINCIPLES FOR PRESCHOOL LEARNERS

Motivation is required for effective teaching and learning. Not only does it result in more
positive behavior in students, but it also contributes to a greater sense of well-being.
Understanding how to motivate children and young people in school is critical if we are to
give them the best start in life possible.
Motivated preschoolers are much more likely to achieve their potential and find success.
Motivation in education assists children and young people in focusing their attention on a
specific lessons which influence thier emotional goals/interests .
In conclusion, motivation is the most important factor influencing the preschoolers.

DEVELOPMENTAL INFLUENCES IN LEARNING
-Individuals' learning opportunities and constraints change as they grow. When differential
development within and across the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social domains is
considered, learning is most effective.

ELABORATION OF PRINCIPLES FOR PRESCHOOL LEARNERS

Playing is a child's primary method of learning and development. Genes, nutrition, physical
activity, health, and community are all other factors that influence development.
The most important factor in child development is obviously the family. Parents spend the
most time with their children, especially in early childhood, and we (sometimes unknowingly)
influence how they act, think, and behave.
The family is the most influential factor in a child's development. A child's most formative
years are spent with his family. The behaviors of family members have a significant impact
on the development in learning of a child.

STANDARDS AND ASSESSMENT
-Setting appropriately high and challenging standards and assessing the
learner as well as the learning progress

ELABORATION OF PRINCIPLES FOR PRESCHOOL LEARNERS

Child assessment methods can be informal (natural observations, data collection, and
children's work for portfolios, using educator and teacher ratings) or formal (using
assessment tools such as questionnaires and standardized testing).
It is important to address the issue of standards in early childhood because standards
establish a baseline of expectations for teaching methods and assessment. Standards
also assist us in comprehending and defining the goals of early childhood pedagogy.
Cluster 4- individual differences factors

ELABORATION OF PRINCIPLES FOR PRESCHOOL LEARNERS

Based on what preschoolers make, write, draw, say, and do, assessments are made to
find out what knowledge and understanding children have. Early childhood specialists
evaluate the progression of children's learning and development, what subjects they are
prepared to learn, and how to support them.
In order to support preschool students' learning and development, educators must first
understand the children they are working with. It aids educators in recognizing the areas
of the children's learning and development where they may need additional support and
nurturing in addition to their areas of strength.
