Lacking of difficulties:
 Cutting: Cutting is the process of removing
material from a workpiece using a cutting
tool. This is typically done by moving the
cutting tool along a path that removes
material from the workpiece.
 Sanding: Sanding is the process of
smoothing a surface using an abrasive
material such as sandpaper. This is often
done to remove small imperfections or to
prepare a surface for painting or other
finishing processes.
 Knurling: Knurling is a process of creating
a pattern of small, raised ridges on a
workpiece. This is typically done to
improve grip or to create a decorative
pattern.
 Drilling: Drilling is the process of creating a
hole in a workpiece using a drill bit. This is
typically done to create holes for fasteners
or to allow for the passage of fluids or
electrical wiring.
 Deformation: Deformation is the process
of changing the shape of a workpiece
without removing any material. This is
often done to create complex shapes or to
improve the strength or durability of a part.
 Facing: Facing is the process of cutting a
flat surface on the end of a workpiece.
This is typically done to create a smooth,
flat surface for mating with another part.
 Turning: Turning is the process of rotating
a workpiece while cutting it with a cutting
tool. This is typically done to create
cylindrical or conical shapes, such as
shafts or cones.

Analysis:

Teacher: (Temonera) Lathe machine called mother of all (Temonera): The lathe machine is often
tools in what particular way? called the "mother of all tools" because
it is one of the oldest and most versatile
machines used in manufacturing and
metalworking. It has been in use for
thousands of years, and it remains an
essential tool for creating a wide range
of precision parts and components.

Teacher: (Edelmar) as a machining students why is it

that we need to learn on how to operate lathe machine? (Edelmar):
Learning how to operate a lathe
machine is essential for machining
students due to its versatility and wide
application in manufacturing industries.

Abstraction:
Students will listen to the teacher
Lathe machine:

A lathe is a machine tool that rotates a workpiece about

an axis of rotation to perform various operations such as
cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, deformation, facing,
and turning, with tools that are applied to the workpiece
to create an object with symmetry about that axis

The main parts of a lathe machine and their meanings

are as follows:

1. Bed: The bed is the base of the lathe machine,

which provides a foundation for all other
components. It is usually made of cast iron and is
designed to absorb vibrations and maintain
accuracy.

2. Tailstock: The tailstock is located at the opposite

end of the lathe bed from the headstock. It
supports the other end of the workpiece and
provides a means of holding cutting tools.

3. Carriage: The carriage is mounted on the lathe

bed and provides a platform for the cutting tools.
It can be moved along the bed by using a hand
crank or an automatic feed mechanism.

4. Cross slide: The cross slide is mounted on the

carriage and can be moved perpendicular to the
axis of the lathe bed. It is used to control the
depth and width of the cuts made by the cutting
tools.

5. Compound rest: The compound rest is mounted

on the cross slide and can be swiveled to control
the angle of the cutting tool.
Students will listen to the teacher
6. Tool post: The tool post is mounted on the
compound rest and holds the cutting tool.

7. Chuck: The chuck is attached to the spindle and

is used to hold the workpiece in place while it is
being machined.

8. Spindle: The spindle is located in the headstock

and rotates the chuck and workpiece.

Some safety precautions when operating a lathe

machine include:

 Always wear appropriate personal protective

equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses and
gloves.
 Keep the work area clean and free of clutter.
 Check the lathe machine before each use to
ensure that it is in good working order.
 Never touch the cutting tools while they are in
motion.
 Use proper tooling and cutting speeds for the
material being machined.
 Keep long hair and loose clothing away from the
moving parts of the lathe.
 Do not use the lathe machine unless you have
been properly trained on its operation and safety
procedures.

Application:

Teacher: (Rey Benedict) Why is it that we need a proper (Rey Benedict): A proper training in
training in operating lathe machine? operating a lathe machine is necessary
to ensure safety, prevent accidents, and
optimize the performance of the
machine.
Teacher: (Arvin) why do we need to check the lathe (Arvin): It is important to check the lathe
machine before each use? machine before each use to ensure that
it is in good working condition, identify
any potential issues or defects, and
prevent any accidents or damage to the
machine and the workpiece.
