SILVER OAK UNIVERSITY

College of Technology (01)

Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering
Subject Name: Power Quality & FACTs
Subject Code: 1010083437
Semester: 7th

Prerequisite: Electrical Power System & Power Electronics.

Objective: Power quality is of much concern in electrical power systems at both utility &
consumer end respectively. Quality of power can have a direct impact on many industrial
consumers. There has recently been a great emphasis on revitalizing industry with more
automation and more modern equipment. Also use of power electronics devices for reactive
power compensation & HVDC has increased. The more and more use of power electronics
devices in the power systems at every stage increases the problem of power quality. The course
is aimed to provide exposure about power quality; the commonly used power electronics based
compensating devices, FACTS and various power quality issues mitigation techniques.
