At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
a. Define a source;
b. Differentiate primary from secondary sources; and
c. Identify primary and secondary source in a statements.

A. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of: South and West Asian literature as an expression of
philosophical and religious beliefs; information flow in various text types; reality, fantasy, and
opinion in listening and viewing materials; word decoding strategies; and use of information
sources, active/passive constructions, direct/reported speech, perfect tenses, and logical
connectors in journalistic writing.

B. Performance Standard
The learner transfers learning by composing a variety of journalistic texts, the contents of which
may be used in composing and delivering a memorized oral speech featuring use of properly
acknowledged information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and
emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior.

Based on the activity that we did, it is just to


say that today we will be studying primary and
secondary sources.

Before we proceed to our discussion, let me


just show you the objective of our lesson this
morning.

So, our topic for today is all about Primary and


Secondary Sources.

Let’s first define what is source.

Sources are references that you use in


gathering information like books, newspaper
and other materials.

Primary source are firsthand information


taken from original evidences such as reports
on discoveries and events and interviews from
persons in authority.

Characteristics of a primary source


1. An original material
2. Created during the time it happened
3. Created by someone who has a first-hand
experience of the event

Examples of primary sources include:


 diaries, letter correspondence
 original documents e.g. birth certificates,
trial records
 interviews, speeches, oral histories
 laws, regulations, constitutions
 government documents, statistical data,
research reports
 journal article reporting new research or
findings
 creative art works, literature
 opinion pieces

Secondary source are secondhand


information taken from the primary sources.
 Information that was created later by
someone who did not experience first-
hand or participate in the events.

Characteristics of a secondary source


1.Not an original material
2. Not created during the time it happened
3. Not created by someone who has a first-
hand experience of the event

Examples of secondary sources include:


 journal articles that comment on or
analyses research
 textbooks
 dictionaries and encyclopedias
 books that interpret, analyze
 political commentary
 biographies
 dissertations
 newspaper editorial/columns
 criticism of literature, art works or music

Now, how about this scenario:
This woman survived the World War I when she was
