Project Highlights
Khatib & Alami (K&A) is working on an important project in Burayda, the capital of
Qassim Region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This inland city spreads over 70 km²
and is home to a current population of over 500,000 persons.
The city was originally built in the middle of a very large wadi. Hence, it suffers from
serious flooding problems during the rainy season. This disrupts businesses and causes
a lot of damages to private and public property. Because of this serious problem, the
Amanah of Qassim has nominated K&A to prepare a flood mitigation plan that can
properly control and minimize flooding, thus protecting the city from damages and
losses. In addition, K&A is providing the Amanah with added value by developing a
computer program that predicts the outcome of the 5-year, 10-year, 25-year, 50-year,
and 100- year storms. This will help the Amanah make the necessary arrangements to
deal with the current flooding problem until the proposed flood mitigation scheme is
fully set up.
