INTRODUCTION

This instruction manual is a guidebook that describes information necessary to properly install

the Crimp force monitor (LT32).

This manual explains important instructions necessary to install the LT32. Before installing

the LT32, thoroughly read this manual to fully understand its contents.

It is recommended to keep this instruction manual in a safe place since the manual must also be

transferred as the machine is relocated. The design and specifications of the LT32 are subject to

change without prior notice due to continual upgrading and improvement. Therefore, the contents

of this instruction manual may slightly vary from the details of the actual machine you have

purchased. If you have any question about the machine you have purchased or contents of this

instruction manual, please do not hesitate to contact your local sales dealer.

Important Read This Instruction Manual Prior to Use.

(1) Safety
Only authorized personnel who have the knowledge about maintenance of the machine or have

taken the maintenance education are allowed to carry out the installation work.

Proper operation and periodic maintenance are absolutely required to safely operate the Crimp

force monitor (LT32). Thoroughly read the safety precautions stated in this instruction manual to

fully understand its contents before starting the work.

The safety precautions explained in this instruction manual are applicable only to the operating

procedures described herein. If the customer uses the LT32 in a way different from that described

in this instruction manual, the customer shall be held responsible for all safety considerations.

Never attempt to disassemble, reassemble, or modify the machine without prior written permission.

Doing so may cause the machine not to be operated at its optimal operating level or may cause a

serious trouble and/or accident.

In this instruction manual, the following symbol marks are used to indicate the safety precautions.

The items with these marks describe the important contents. Therefore, carefully read such

instructions and strictly observe them.

Special Care Should Be Taken When You Use LT32.

DANGER

1. Electric leak may cause an electric shock.

Make sure that the power cable is connected firmly.

Connect the grounding cable to the machine and take appropriate measures so that the

grounding cable is not disconnected.

Do not operate the machine with wet hands.

2. An electric shock hazard exists since a power source having high voltage and high current

is mounted inside the electric component box.

Never open the electric component box without shutting down of the circuit breaker of the

main power source and the main circuit breaker of the power supply source.

Special Care Should Be Taken When You Use LT32.

WARNING

1. To ensure the optimal performance and safe operation of the machine, do not install the

machine in a place where;

1) Hazardous or explosive materials exist.

2) An open flame exists.

3) It is exposed to the direct sunlight.

4) A large amount of dust or dirt exists.

5) A strong vibration exists.

6) The atmospheric humidity is high.

2. To ensure the optimal performance and safe operation of the machine, install the machine

in a place where;

1) Indoor place

2) The altitude is 1000m or less.

3) Contamination degree rank 2: General (Office, etc.)

4) Transient over-voltage (or category): Category 2 (When connected to the

commercial power supply directly, the transient over-voltage is 2.5kV.)

5) The cleaning work is not needed.

3. If a cable is connected to signals other than those stated in the specification, this may cause

the machine to malfunction. Always connect the cables to the signals specified in the

instruction manual.

Special Care Should Be Taken When You Use LT32.

WARNING
4. Do not operate the machine in a work environment other than that specified in the

following.

Doing so may cause the machine not to be operated at its optimal operating level, as well

as malfunction of the machine.

5. Always turn OFF the power completely when the machine is not in use. If unauthorized

personnel operate any switch accidentally, this may cause serious personal injury.

6. Keep hands away from applicator, because it is dangerous while the power is supplied.

Special Care Must be Taken When You Use LT32.

CAUTION

1. Keep the machine away from high voltage sources, large current sources, and large

power relays.

2. If any accident, trouble, or faulty product arises resulting from modification or change of

the machine made by the customer, the customer shall be held responsible to take

appropriate measures against such troubles.

3. When the customer asks to repair any defective part of the machine, the customer shall

restore the parts, which have been changed and/or modified by the customer, to their

original conditions.

4. Any request to modify the machine, which has been changed and/or modified by the

customer, shall not be accepted. In this case, the customer shall be held responsible to

take appropriate measures.

IMPORTANT
When mounting the LT32 on the AC81, read the instruction manual (installation) for LT32

designed for AC81.

IMPORTANT
(1) In some combinations of terminals and wires, the curled insulation grips touch or almost on

the terminal bottom. These crimps are out of specification for LT32.

(2) Double crimping and joint crimping are not guaranteed.

(3) To increase detection level, maintain the crimping machine and the applicator with care.

(4) When LT32 is used in a series of automatic machines, never use it with LT20.

(5) LT32 can not detect all crimp deficiencies. Therefore, never omit a visual check.

CAUTION
Always use the machine in a dry and clean room.

2. Installation/Adjustment

WARNING
Before installation, make sure to turn off breaker and brake power source. Check movable

units are not in action.

CAUCTION
Engineers or experts who have maintenance knowledge or have taken maintenance education

should install devices.

2.1. Installation

2.1.1. Checking of main unit jumper pin setting

The main unit jumper pin setting of T-sol’s pressure sensor (Fig. 1) is different from that of Yazaki’s

pressure sensor (Fig. 2).

Make sure that the main unit jumper pin setting is suitable for the pressure sensor.

2.1.2. Installation of LT32

Installation of LT32 depends on types of the crimping machine. Install LT32 in accordance with the

instruction manual on the installation stay for each type of machines.

2.1.3. Installation of Crimp Force Sensor and Setting of Force

IMPORTANT
The main unit jumper pin setting of T-sol’s pressure sensor is different from that of Yazaki’s
pressure sensor.
If the setting is made incorrectly, the following symptom occurs and the sensor does not
function correctly.

The pressure sensor mounting parts may vary depending on the model of the crimping machine as

described for installation of the crimping machine main unit.

(1) Install the head of the pressure sensor so that it is put between the ram of each crimping machine

and the base plate of the applicator (applicator fixing plate for the AC80). Install the pressure

sensor while referring to the Instruction Manual for mounting stay of each model. Install the

sensor at each of the A-end and B-end

(2) Connect the BNC cable to the LT32 main unit. Connect the A-end cable to CH1 and B-end cable

to CH2.

2.1.4. Set of Preload

Pressurize in order to control the pressure sensor inside a machine structure.

The procedures are as shown below.

(1) Display “PARAMETER” while operating LT32.

(2) Press the [ENT] button to display “Prog Select”. While pressing the [▲] button, press the [ENT]

button.

(3) Press the [▲] button four times when Passwords is asked.

(4) Enter into the Parameter mode after passwords is input.

(5) Display “5.SENSOR” by pressing the [▲] or [▼] button.

(6) Press [ENT] button to come in “5. SENSOR”.

(7) Press the [▲] button once to display “Preload”

(8) Press [ENT] button to go to the Preload screen on the side of Channel 1.

(10) Tighten the (preload) bolt and apply by 15 % - 20 %.

<T-sol’s pressure sensor>

<Yazaki’s pressure sensor>

* Tighten the bolt within 8 sec. after preloading has been started. When a value ranging from

15% to 20% is set within 8 sec., “OK!” is indicated. When this setting is not completed within

8 sec., loosen the bolt to completely release the pre-load. Enter the preload mode again and

tighten the bolt from 0% again to apply the preload.

(11) Press [MODE]button when 15 – 20 % preload is applied. Preload set is completed.

CAUCTION
Even if preload is applied, the value

decreases due to the characteristics of the

pressure sensor. Tighten the bolt quickly

without putting a pause.

If you fail to apply preload including the above-mentioned condition (exceeding 20%),

loosen the bolt once and relief preload completely. Display Preload and tighten the bolt

from 0% to apply.

2.1.5. Installation of Trigger Switch

A trigger switch is different from to crimping machine to machine. Install in accordance with

Instruction Manual for the installation stay of each machine model. The following is a representative

example of AC80.

Remove a cover provided at the rear side of crimping machine and install the photo sensor. The

following is a guide for the slit cam installation position at the top dead point.

2.1.6. Connection Diagram of Communication Cable

(1) I/O cable

The I/O cable connecting LT32 with the crimping machine depends on a type of crimping machine.

Refer to the instruction manual on a fixing stay for each type of machine.

(2) Serial Communication Cable

To set the parameters such as time delay/measurement time, use the attached PC software

“CMSS2”. Use a RS232C cable (cross type) to connect LT32 and PC.

The following diagram shows the connection of communication cables to connect LT32 and PC.

In DOS/V PC, D-SUB9 pins are used for RS232C. When PC uses other special connectors,

confirm the function of pins.

2.1.7. Wiring Connection of Cables

Cables are Crimp Force Sensor cable, BNC cable, I/O cable, power source cable and RS232C cable.

(See also section 1.4., Structure of Devices, in the Instruction Manual (Operation).) Run the cables

properly so that excessive tension and/or buckling do not occur.

The following shows an example when running the cables of the AC80.

2.2. Parameter Set

There are two setting ways for LT32 and CMSS2.

1) Quick set

2) Manual set

2.2.1. Quick Set

< Aim >

・ Reduction of setting time

・ Restriction of dispersion of settings input by each operator

・ Simplification of set

In Quick Set, the following items are performed in programs semi-automatically.

・ Delay and measurement time

・ Waveform division lines A, B, C and D

・ Tolerance AB, BC and CD

Operation and the procedures are explained as follows.

(1) Start-up PC Software CMSS2 on Start Menu.

(2) Click LogOn to log-on.

Click “Log On”

(3) Click the PAR icon to change program numbers and select any channel number and part number.

Then click OK and Close to exit.

Click “PAR”.

(4) Click the Quick icon and type passwords. Click OK.

Click “Quick”.

(5) This is a Quick Set screen.

When the standard waveform is registered in the selected parts number, the waveform is displayed

on the screen in red. To perform Quick Set (Parameter Set), crimp terminals just the way they are.

1) Gain

The first crimp mode is “Gain”.

Crimp conforming terminals. The gain value, delay / measurement time can be gained.

2) Good

When the first crimp (Gain) completes, it goes to the next crimp mode “Good” automatically.

Crimp 30 conforming terminals here.

<Workaround in case of failure during Quick Set>

a) Click the checkmark after crimping to reset.

b) Count is cleared when the checkmark is reset. Crimp again if you fail.

REFERENCE
If the electric wire or terminal cannot obtain the gain or waveform of the OK product correctly,

change “Effective Wave Level” in [Input] in the “Gain” dialog box from “8” to “15” and retry it.

3) Check

After 30 conforming terminals are crimped, the “Check” button becomes active. Click the

“Check” button to go to the next crimp mode (Bit Insulation terminal).

4) InsCrm

Crimp one bit-insulation terminal (1/3 defect). The “Check” button becomes active. Click the

“Check” button if it is accepted. Remove the checkmark if crimp is failed. Crimp another bit

–insulation terminal (1/3 defect) again.

5) ConFra

Crimp one cut-conductor terminal (1/3 defect). When all crimps complete, “Press Completed” is

displayed. If cut-conductor terminal crimp is failed, remove the checkmark. You can crimp

another cut-conductor terminal again.

6) Cal

After all crimps complete, click the “Cal” button.

・ Waveform division lines A, B, C and D

・ Tolerance AB, BC and CD are calculated.

7) Check the following.

Press the “Cal” button to calculate the waveform division lines A, B, C and D and tolerance

between each division automatically.

a) Start-up of waveform comes to the left end of screen.

b) Measurement time till the waveform peak should be set. (The waveform should be captured.)

c) The waveform division line D should come to the peak of the standard waveform.

d) The waveform division line B should come to the branch point of the standard waveform and

the waveform crimped at the cut-conductor terminal crimp mode.

e) The waveform division line C should be set in the middle of B and D.

f) The waveform division line A should come to the branch point of the waveform crimped at the

bit-insulation terminal mode.

Click the “OK” after checking the above.

8) Press the “OK” button to go to the OPERATION mode automatically.

< Check of Defect Detection >

・Bit Insulation

Crimp two bit-insulation terminals (1/3 defect) and check that they are detected as a defect.

・Cut-conductor

Crimp two cut-conductor terminals (1/3 defect) and check that they are detected as a defect.

IMPORTANT
* If deficiencies are not detected

If deficiencies are not detected at the time of defective detection, the defect articles may be flown out.

Reset the tolerance level to detect the deficiencies.

1) Set the tolerance to detect the level when editing the program in parameter mode.

2) Crimp a terminal in Operation mode, and check that the crimp defect can be detected.

The detection levels vary with a combination of terminals and wires.

Be sure to crimp a defective terminal and check the detection level.

CAUCTION
1) Crimp terminals in each crimp mode while comparing crimped samples and the crimp waveforms

on the screen.

If you fail crimping or do not adopt the waveform for set, remove the checkmark on the screen to

eliminate the waveform data from the calculation.

2) Depending on a combination of terminals and wires or the service condition, you may not set

even on Quick Set.

In that case, set it manually as in the past. The manual set procedures are described from the

following pages.

2.2.2. Manual Set

As in the past, you can set Parameter manually. The following shows the procedures.

(The following shows an example of general crimping machine.)

(1) Click “Log On” to communicate with PC and CMSS2.

Click “LogOn”.

(2) Click the PAR icon and select any channel and parts number from the program number change.

Click “OK”.

Click “OK”.

(3) Select “Program Edit”. Type passwords when asked. Then click OK.

(4) Tolerance between each division is set at 0% on default. Change tolerance to AB=20%,

BC=30% and CD=10%. Check that the delay/ measurement time is 0/100 (ms) and click “OK”.

(5) Click “Teach”. Type passwords as in the case of Program Edit.

(6) Change the number of samples (Teach Q’ty) from 4 to 1 to teach Parameter Set. Click “OK”.

(7) Click “Close” and close Parameter window.

(8) Click the “Teach” icon to be the Teach mode.

*Conduct TEACH according to procedures of equipment.

(10) Crimp the second terminal on the Teach mode.

(13) The waveform crimped on the Teach mode is displayed.

The crimped waveform is shown.

(14) Drag the waveform division line A to the start-up of waveform.

At the start of crimp waveform, which the

main waveform is shown in the area A, a

noise waveform sometimes appears

regardless of the crimp directly. In this case, Noise

adopt the main crimp waveform.

(15) The value of the waveform division line A to the measurement time in 100ms is indicated in %,

which becomes the delay time.

(16) Input the delay time.

(17) Drag the waveform division line B to the peak of waveform. (In this example, the waveform

division line B is adjusted to the peak point.)

(19) Click “OK” after the delay / measurement time is set.

Click “OK”.

(20) Select “Teach” and type passwords.

(21) Change Non-Similar from “On” to “Off”. Click “OK”.

(22) Click “Close” and close Parameter Window.

CAUTION
“Non-Similar” is a function to compare the standard waveform registered at Teach with the one

to be registered at this time. This is to prevent defective waveforms. However, in case of

manual set, it will cause an error due to this function after setting the delay/measurement time.

After the delay/measurement time is set, turn off this function once. Even if you turn it off, it is

turned on automatically after Teach completes.

(23) Click the “Teach” icon to be the Teach mode.

(27) Select “Program Edit” and type passwords.

(28) This is a Program Edit screen. The displayed waveform is Teach.

(29) Change the waveform display from Normal to Differential.

(30) Drag the waveform division line C to the peak of differential waveform, and the waveform division

line D to a singular point that is crossed with the horizontal line (zero) dropping to the right side.

(31) Return the waveform display to the normal waveform. Check that the waveform division line D

comes to the peak of waveform. Press “OK”.

(32) Click “Close” to close Parameter window.

(33) Click the OPE icon. Select the Operation mode.

(34) Crimp one bit-insulation terminal (1/3 defect) on the Operation mode.

(35) Crimp one cut-conductor terminal (1/3 defect) on the Operation mode.

(36) Click the PAR icon to establish the Parameter mode.

(37) Select “Program Edit” and type passwords.

(38) The displayed waveform is a standard waveform of a conforming article on TEACH. Display the

history line of a defective waveform on [Display] and [History line display].

(39) Drag the waveform division line A to a branch of the bit-insulation defect and the standard

*Set the waveform division line using a characteristic of the defective waveform.

1) The bit-insulation defect diverges or rises toward the higher pressure at the first half of

waveform. Set the waveform division line A there.

2) The cut-conductor defect diverges toward the lower pressure at a place where the

waveform goes up toward its peak. Set the waveform division line B there.

(41) Return samples (Teach Q’ty) from “1” to “4”, and click “OK”.

<Checking Defect Detection>

(1) Crimp two bit-insulation terminals (1/3 defect) on the Operation mode to check if they are detected.

(2) Crimp two cut-conductor terminals (1/3 defect) on the Operation mode to check if they are

detected.

IMPORTANT

*If deficiencies are not detected

If deficiencies are not detected at the time of defective detection, the defect articles may be flown out.

Reset the tolerance level to detect the deficiencies.

1) Set the tolerance again to detect the level when editing the program in parameter mode.

2) Crimp a terminal in Operation mode, and check that the crimp defect can be detected.
