SESSION NUMBER: Sixth

SPEAKER: Engr. Amando A. Plata, PEE

TOPIC: Low Voltage Electrical System

Figure 1.1 The Second Speaker

The first speaker of the sixth session was Engr. Amando Plata, PEE who gave a technical
and substantial presentation about Low Voltage Electrical System. Engr. Plata is a Professional
Electrical Engineer who graduated from the same institution, Batangas State University. His
lecture about Low Voltage Electrical System is mainly rooted from his experience from working
in the industry. This topic is regarded as one of the most fundamental topics that should be talked
about when starting off a career in the engineering industry.
On the first part of his presentation, Engr. Plata gave a short introduction about Low

Voltage Electrical System. From the presentation below, it can be read that “Low voltage is

relative term. Usually low voltage are used in electric power distribution. Any voltage below

1000V, engineers consider low voltage. Low voltage circuits that are exempt from protection

required at higher voltages.” This indicates that, in the context of electric power distribution,

engineers generally consider any voltage below 1000 volts to be low voltage. This voltage level

is typically used in distribution networks that supply power to residential, commercial, and

industrial buildings. In comparison, high voltage power transmission lines that carry electricity

over long distances typically operate at voltages above 100 kV.

Figure 1.2 Low Voltage Electrical System

Engr. Plata also discussed the One Line Diagram which is a simplified graphical

representation of a power system or electrical distribution system, which is used to show the

interconnections between the various components of the system. The diagram uses symbols to

represent each component and a single line to represent the electrical connections between them.

Typically, a one-line diagram will show the main components of the power system, including

generators, transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and loads. The diagram will also show the

ratings, voltages, and other important parameters of each component.

Figure 1.3 Transformer

After discussing the One Line Diagram, he then proceeded to talk about Transformer, 3

Types of Wires, and 2 Types of Low Voltage Cables. An electric transformer is a device that is

used to transfer electrical energy from one circuit to another by means of electromagnetic

induction. It consists of two coils of wire, called the primary and secondary coils, that are wound

around a magnetic core made of laminated iron or steel. Alternating current (AC) and direct

current (DC) are two different types of electrical current. AC is a type of current that changes

direction periodically, typically many times per second. This type of current is commonly used

for power most household and industrial appliances. DC, on the other hand, is a type of current

that flows in only one direction. DC power is commonly used in electronic devices such as

computers and mobile phones, as well as in some high-power applications such as electric

vehicles and renewable energy systems.

After Engr. Plata’s lecture, his segment was ended with token and plaque of recognition

awarding. With this, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Engr. Plata for taking the

time to speak to us last seminar session. His expertise and knowledge were truly enlightening

and inspiring. His insights on Low Voltage Electrical Current have given us a deeper

understanding and appreciation for this topic, and we are confident that his presentation will

have a lasting impact on us.

SESSION NUMBER: Sixth

SPEAKER: Engr. Ramil Acuzar Dimaculangan, REE, RME, MBA

TOPIC: Operation Management

Figure 2.1 The Second Speaker

The figure above shows the second speaker of the afternoon session held on March 15,

2023, Wednesday at Amphitheater, 4th floor, CEAFA Building. He is Engr. Ramil Acuzar

Dimaculangan, a Marketing Director IV, UHS-EHPI from 2014 up to present, a Founder of

DreamBuilders International, and a Business Builder Adviser, IN10CT International from 2018

up to present. Engr. Dimaculangan have a topic “Operation Management”.

Figure 2.2 Relation of Quality, Speed, Efficiency, and Cost in Management

The figure above shows the relationship of the quality, speed, efficiency, and cost to each

other. This simply shows that the higher quality, higher speed, and higher efficiency will caused

a low cost in management. While, if the quality, speed, and efficiency become low then the cost

will possibly get high or increase. In this part, critical thinking is necessary to achieve the said

first situation. Because one thing will not work properly in just one snap.

Figure 2.3 Board Exam Tips

Engr. Dimaculangan leave five (5) board exam tips for all the EE students who attended

the seminar. First, we must know our goal and claim it. Second, we need to plan or think of the

strategies on how we can make sure that our study will be effective for us to pass the board

exam. Third, we need to be consistent because consistency will lead us to good results. Fourth,

we need to focus on our goal; do not be easily distracted. Lastly, pray, believe, and receive.

These are the things that for Engr. Dimaculangan can help the aspiring board exam takers to pass

or achieve the licenses that we want to have.

is with Engr. Reyes, and Engr. Marcaida, the heads of the seminar. This awarding is necessary to

give thanks the speaker for giving his valuable time and expertise to the hundred of attendees of

the seminar. A simple token and a signed certificate is a our sign of appreciation.

SESSION NUMBER : Sixth

SPEAKER: Engr. Eduardo Villena Barairo, REE, RME

TOPIC: Preventive Maintenance of Generator Set

Figure 3.1 Preventive Maintenance of Generator Set

The figure above was held in the Amphitheater on March 15, 2023. Engr. Barairo was the

third speaker of the session. In his presentation, he describes how preventive maintenance of

generating sets is vital to ensure that the equipment does not fail or malfunction throughout its

operation. Regular inspections will save you money on repairs and will significantly improve the

life of your generator set.

The frequency and kind of maintenance required on a generator set will be determined by

a variety of criteria, such as the generator set's operation, the environment in which it runs, and

the percentage load it carries.

Leading Innovations, Transforming Lives, Building the Nation

Generator manufacturers often propose inspections and preventative engine-alternator

maintenance every three months for emergency usage, and every 250 or 500 hours for

continuous use, depending on the brand and each manufacturer's guidelines.

Figure 3.2 Types of Generator Set

Engr. Barairo also discussed about Types of Generators Set. It includes the Basic/Open

Type Generator Set, the water tank, diesel engine, alternator, and control box all share a single

chassis. The basic genset is the most common. It could alternatively be a self-starting unit or a

microcomputer-controlled automation genset. Portable Trailer Mobile Type Generator Set, the

trailer genset (power station) is fitted with a toka on the basis of the quiet type unit, which allows

for easy mobility of the unit and is appropriate for short-distance emergency power delivery

between cities. And Container Type Diesel Generator Set, the container type generator set is

mounted in the container. It is designed and produced specifically for field engineering power

supply. The genset's power is usually greater than 500KW.

Figure 3.3 Basic PMS for Generator Set

Engr. Barairo also talked about Basic PMS for Generator Set, which is important in

maintaining the good condition of generator sets Generators feature several moving elements,

ranging from the control panel (the generator's brain) through the batteries and connections.

These are a few chores to include on your preventive generator maintenance checklist.

For each use, maintenance is required.

 General examination

 Batteries for testing

 Examine the intake and exhaust systems.

 Start by hand

 Engine practice

 Adjustments

As needed, maintenance

 Repairs

 Filters should be replaced.

 Lubrication

 Cleaning

 Cooling system maintenance

 Service of the fuel system

Figure 4. Difference Between Diesel and Gasoline

Leading Innovations, Transforming Lives, Building the Nation

Last but not least, Engr. Barairo also discussed the Difference between Diesel and

Gasoline Genset. If you want a generator that requires minimum maintenance, diesel generators

are an excellent choice. A diesel generator, unlike a gas generator, does not have a carburetor

and instead develops an electric current by compression. Diesel generators are more fuel-

efficient since they last longer and consume less fuel.
