Practical task
1. Working in pairs capture annotated photographs of the following scenarios using good practice demonstrated in class.
2. Each of your will produce individual evidence of at least 2 of the following:

• Cleaning a computer system

• Maintaining systems
• Repair/replace faulty equipment.

Task Your step by step guide Screen grabs or photographs

Cleaning the Computer 1. I unscrewed then opened

up the computer case
2. I remove the front bezel
3. I unscrewed the drive bay
then lifted it up to allow
greater access to the interior
of the computer.
4. I used the air duster to
remove most of the dust
piled on the hardware.
5. I used a brush to allow me
to brush dust off hard-to-
reach areas to allow the air
duster to do its thing.
6. After the duster has
cleared all the dust off, I
would screw the drive bay
back in, and then re-install

the front bezel, and then re
install the cover and then
screw it to the frame.

Repair/Replace Faulty 1. I open the computer case
Equipment cover
2. I unscrew the bay drive and
then lift it open to get better
visual on the wiring.
3. I disconnect the wiring to the
faulty DVD
4. I uninstall the DVD Drive,
then install the new one
5. After the installation is done,
I screw it to the computer case.

2. Improve a system by upgrading hardware.

1. Working in pairs capture annotated photographs of the following scenarios using good practice demonstrated in class.
2. You will then produce individual evidence of the following upgrades (at least 3 of the following for each section):

• Add Memory (RAM)

• Installing a CD/DVD Drive
• Upgrading the HDD to an SSD

9. After it’s done, put
the drive bay down
and then put the two
small screws back
on.
10. After step 9 is
done, put the
computer case cover
on then put back the
screws to keep the
case cover in place.

Upgrading an HDD 1. Unscrew the

to an SSD computer case

4. Remove the HDD,
and then take the
SSD and make sure
to have special
screws that fits the
SSD
5. Once the SSD has
been installed, re-
attach the cables
that were attached to
the HDD
6. Then put the drive
bay down and re-
install the screws to
ensure the drive bay
will not go loose.

3. Install one additional piece of hardware.

1. Working in pairs capture annotated photographs of the following scenarios using good practice demonstrated in class.
2. You will then produce individual evidence of the following upgrades (at least 3 of the following for each section):
• Webcam
• Printer
• 2nd monitor

Installing a Webcam 1. Plug in the webcam in a
USB-C Port.
2. Attach the webcam to
the top of the PC, ideally
being right at the middle of
the monitor.
3. Open Device manager to
ensure the webcam is
connected.

RECOMMENDATIONS REPORT:
Consider all the ideas from testing, user feedback and review to refine the system to improve the reliability and performance.
Explain how you would make these refinements

I would refine the system by thoroughly clearing the dust off the hardware because the dust could cause the hardware to overheat and causing damage to
the computer, as the dust would hamper the cooling system which in turn would cause the computer to overheat and shutdown to preserve the central
processing unit. I would also refine the system by adding/installing a more powerful SSD to improve reliability, efficiency, and storage.

Criteria covered by this task:

Unit/Criteria
To achieve the criteria you must show that you are able to:
reference

Install and maintain hardware in a technology system that includes the:

2C.P4 • Repair of at least two different internal hardware components.
• Upgrade of at least two different internal hardware components
• Installation of at least one additional external hardware device.
2C.P5 Test the modified system for functionality against the purpose and repair of any faults

Install and maintain hardware in a technology system using appropriate tools and techniques to protect data and system settings,
2C.M3
demonstrating awareness of user requirements and taking account of usability.

2C.M4 Test the modified technology system and gather feedback and use it to improve the technology system for user experience.

2C.D3 Refine the modified technology system in order to improve performance, taking account of feedback..

2D.P6 Explain how the modified technology system is suitable for the intended purpose and original requirements

Review the extent to which the modified technology system meets the original requirements, considering feedback from others and any
2D.M5
constraints.

Evaluate the initial plan against the modified technology system and justify any changes that were made, making recommendations for
2D.D4
further improvements
