Bac 2021

Corruption in sport threatens its role in promoting ethical values. When FIFA officials were accused of money laundering in 2015, it illustrated how bribery and unclear finances undermine trust in sport. Corruption is not limited to soccer and weakens public trust in other institutions. As a symbol of fair play, sport must fight corruption through athletes, fans, sponsors and journalists uniting against it. Ancient civilizations made many contributions to modern fields that should not be denied.

Part one: Reading (15 pts)

A/ Comprehension (07 pts)
Read the text carefully to do the following activities.
Sport provides joy to billions of people across the world. As fans, we have a love affair with our
favourite game. When our teams win, we are enthusiastic. When they lose, we are devastated. When
results are not determined by fair competition but by corruption, however, we feel betrayed.
Sport touches the lives of billions who do not want to think that their favourite pastime is infected.
This became unavoidable for football fans in May 2015 when some FIFA officials were accused of
racketeering and money-laundering. This crisis at the heart of sport illustrates well-known issues: bribery,
embezzlement and unclear financial black holes.
Corruption in sport is not limited to football, and the importance of fighting corruption is not limited
to its effect on sport only. Sport is a symbol of fair play around the world and a key to strengthening
ethical values. If trust in sport is lost and people can no longer believe what they are seeing on the field of
play, public trust in any other institution may be irreparably weakened.
