● Definition
Animation is the process of creating the illusion of motion or shape change by
means of the rapid display of a sequence of static images that are minimally different
from one another. In short, animation is a method by which still figures are manipulated
to appear as moving images.
The word "animation" stems from the Latin "animātiōn", stem of "animātiō",
meaning "a bestowing (giving) of life".
Animator is an artist who creates multiple images, known as frames, which give
an illusion of movement called animation when displayed in rapid sequence.
● Types of Animation
1. Traditional Animation
Traditional animation also known as cel animation, or hand-drawn animation is an
animation technique in which each frame is drawn by hand. The technique was the
dominant form of animation in cinema until computer animation.
Traditional animation is created by hand-drawing each frame of animation on
paper or other medium. It uses transparent sheets of celluloid (called cels) to animate the
drawings.
2. Digital 2D Animation
Digital 2D is a type of computer graphics that uses two-dimensional (2D) images
to create artwork, animations, and special effects. It is commonly used in multimedia
applications such as video games and movies. Digital 2D can be done in a variety of
software programs, such as Adobe Photoshop and Flash.
Digital 2D animation is created using vector graphics, which allows for more
detailed and scalable animations. Digital 2D animation is created using frame-by-frame
animation, where each frame is a still image that is created and edited individually.
3. Digital 3D Animation
Digital 3D animation is the process of creating a three-dimensional moving image
in a digital environment. It is achieved by using specialized software and hardware to
create a virtual world populated with 3D models. Digital 3D animation is used in films,
video games, television specials, and other interactive media to create a visually stunning
and immersive experience.
3D animation uses 3D models for characters, objects, and environments to create a
more realistic, lifelike look and feel. 3D animation incorporates textures and lighting to
add depth and realism to models and environments.
4. Motion Graphics
Motion graphics is a digital art form that combines graphic design and animation
to create visually stunning and engaging videos. This form of art is used to communicate
an idea, tell a story, or simply entertain an audience. Motion graphics can be used in a
variety of industries, from advertising to education, and can be found in almost all forms
of media, from television and film to websites, apps, and virtual reality.
Motion Graphics involves creating graphics and moving them in time and space to
achieve an intended goal or tell a story. The motion graphic elements are placed in a
sequence of frames to create an illusion of motion.
5. Stop Motion
Stop motion is a filmmaking technique in which objects are physically
manipulated in small increments between individual photographs or frames so that they
appear to be moving on their own. It is also known as stop frame animation or frame-by-
frame animation. This technique is used to create animation in movies, commercials,
music videos, and more.
Stop motion is created by taking a series of still images of a static object and
sequencing them together. It relies on physical objects that are placed and manipulated
frame-by-frame to create the illusion of motion. Stop motion requires the use of props and
sets to create the desired animation.

2. Urduja (2008)
a. Short Description
- Among the other exciting milestones in the fast-emerging Philippine animation
industry was the creation in 2008 of Urduja, an animated film adaptation of the
legend of the warrior princess of Pangasinan. Produced by APT Entertainment,
Seventoon, and Imaginary Friends. Urduja is recognized as the first fully animated
