FERPA Reflection

I would say a couple of things really surprised me when learning

about FERPA in this course. I have always, somewhat, known about
student privacy and the responsibility that the school and teachers have
with their students in maintaining that privacy. Something I wasn’t
expecting is to the extent that this applies to. For example, disclosing a
students grades, even if it’s in a positive light is something that requires
parent, or student if he or she is over the age of 18, approval. I also
liked that I learned that I have to be very careful when using technology
to not share anything that could violate the students privacy. I think a
good rule to remember is to not share anything about my students on
my personal pages and if I have an account for my classroom, as many
schools do now days, to be sure I am not sharing anything personal
about any of my students. These are all great things to learn, especially
as we are living in a technology driven world now.
