SITUATION
Don Macchiatos is a small 39ers cafe business primarily started by Nickie San Juan and
her partner. They launched the business by selling a ₱39.00 Iced Caramel Macchiato and
they continued to expand their coffee menu by releasing a matcha version of the drink.
They operate in small stalls scattered around Cebu Province. Since their product is
affordable, locals are enticed to buy it especially this summer season.
The business translated to success as their plan to sell affordable caffeinated drinks
became a blockbuster as various customers from different walks-of-life line up for their
products. Since they operate in various enclosed small stalls, accommodation of their
customers is always an obstruction as long lines are expected for ordering and claiming
the products. Additionally, problems with order handling arise as they do not provide
receipt and proof of purchase to the customers. The security and efficiency of their
ordering system is clearly inefficient and lacking.
PROBLEMS AND CONSTRAINT
Although Don Macchiatos is a small café business, the way they manage the orders and
resources can create errors and miscalculations as it lacks the technicality of a machine-
operated system such as kiosks and POS. Additionally, lengthy waiting time,
mismanagement of orders, and fake orders are some of the notable constraints that can
occur in the business operation since it lacked automation.
Lengthy Waiting Time – Handling orders while making the product will result in a
lengthy waiting time for the customers to receive the product. Even if ordering and
claiming the ordered product is separately handled, long lines and extended time is
still expected.
Mismanagement of Orders – Not having an organized or automated system will most
likely cause mismanagement of orders. Problems such as lacking orders and
redundant orders are projected to happen.
PROBLEMS AND CONSTRAINT
Fake Orders - Since there is no receipt or sale slip, a customer can order more than
what they paid. This is most likely due to human error such as when staff are working
under pressure and their attention is divided in managing customers and making the
product.
OBJECTIVES
The group’s main objective is to solve the aforementioned problems Don Macchiatos is
facing and will potentially face by creating an organized ordering and inventory system.
This will help the business operate efficiently and securely.
Boundaries - The minimum requirements to be used for the systems are as follows:
