The Muscular System

The muscles make up the bulk of the body.

Muscles are account for One-Third for all body weight.
They are estimated 40% of body mass
The human body is approximately contain more than 600 Muscles
Muscles have the ability to contract and Relax

Types of Muscles
1. Based on the structure of muscles they are Three Types
a) Skeletal Muscles = Found attached for bones
b) Smooth Muscles = Found stomach
c) Cardiac Muscles = Found Heart wall
2. Based on their Function they are Two Types
a) Voluntary Muscles
b) Involuntary Muscles

Skeletal Muscles
 This muscle contain bundle of threadlike structure called Myofibrils
 Each myofibrils is made up two types of Proteins which are
a) Actin = Thin Protein
b) Myosin = Thick Protein
 This two proteins form overlapping pattern called Z-line
 The region from on Z-line to next Z-line is called Sarcomera

Muscular Movement
Most muscles are arranged in opposing pairs for example the Biceps and Triceps Muscles
When the Biceps Muscles Contract the Triceps Muscles Relax
When the Biceps Muscles Relax the Triceps Muscles Contract

Health Complications of the Muscular System

Muscles can be affected diseases and disorders caused by injuries the common one are
 Muscle Cramps: a state of sudden contraction in one group of muscles, it causes severe
pain. This happened due to lack of oxygen, calcium or overuse of muscles
 Muscle Fatigue: is the inability of muscle to contract, this due to depletion of ATP
energy. Example the Marathon runner collapses after race suffering lack of ATP
 Muscle Strain: This is mostly result from fatigue, Overuse, improper use of muscles
 Muscle Tearing: are torn caused by lifting heavy weight object the tearing can be
whole or partial and sometimes accompanied by bleeding
