Note
SupportNet stores some of your download history. If you have previously downloaded
the software, SupportNet may not prompt you for all the steps in the procedure below,
such as step 6.

platform-specific version of the software you want to download.
8. The following is platform dependent:
On Linux:
Untar the file. For example:
# tar -xvf 2010??_ESDM.rhel4.tar

On Windows:

Note
The following instructions use WinZip as the extraction utility. If you use a different
extraction utility, make appropriate selections to ensure that the directory structure of the
Mentor Graphics software is preserved.

i. In the File Download pop-up, click Save to save the .zip file to your machine
ii. In Windows Explorer, right-click the .zip file.
iii. From the pop-up menu, select Winzip > Extract to...

Quick Install for Windows

Note
By default, the Mentor Install Program is installed to C:\MentorGraphics\Install on
Windows. If you need to install the Mentor Install Program to an alternative location, see
“Installing the Install Program to an Alternative Location” section in the Managing
Mentor Graphics Software manual.

1. Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the release to. Double-click setup.exe
to start the install program.
Alternatively, if you are installing from DVD/CD ROM, insert the disc into your drive.
If the installation does not automatically start, select Start > Run, specify the DVD/CD
ROM drive letter and install executable (for example C:\setup.exe) and click OK.

Note
You must have Administrator privileges to install the software products from DVD/CD
ROM on Windows systems.

Note
It is highly recommended that you stop all other programs before you install Mentor
Graphics products.

Tip: After the Mentor Install Program invokes, instructions for performing each of the
following tasks are available in the online help.

2. In the Mentor Graphics Install window, click Install Products. The Source and Target
screen displays.
3. Specify the source location by typing the source path in the source location field or click
Search to select the source directory. The default source location is the path where you
invoked setup.exe in Windows. Valid source directories display as gold-colored folders.
4. Type the target path in the target location field or click Browse to select the target

during the installation process, respond No and reboot after the installation has
completed. Once all the post-install processes are complete, the install wizard indicates
the overall install process is complete.

10. Click Done when the installation is complete.

Caution
If you choose to run verification on the install, run it immediately after installation and
prior to running any of the products as the products can modify the installed files. These
modified files could return unsatisfactory installation verification results.

Note
For the remainder of this installation, the server has the IE3D Distributed Computing
Service product installed and the agent has the IE3D Distributed Computing Agent and
IE3D EM Designer products installed.

11. Set the system environment variable “MGLS_LICENSE_FILE” to the license server,

Connecting IE3D Server and Agent

During project development, distributive simulation is performed on the design to maintain
design specifications. Before you can perform distributive simulation you need to connect the
agent to the server. Use the following procedure to connect the agent to the server.

Prerequisite
• The workstation server has IE3D Distributed Computing Service product installed.
• The workstation agents have IE3D Distributed Computing Agent and IE3D EM
Designer products installed.

Procedure
Windows
Double-click on C:\MentorGraphics\15.0IE3D\SDD_HOME\IE3D\server\zds.exe.

Linux
Double-click on C:\MentorGraphics\15.0IE3D\SDD_HOME\IE3D\server\run_zds.

1. In the Configure Distributed Agent Licenses screen select ZDM-8 or ZDM-16

(Figure -2). The selection defines the maximum number of cores allowed for any Agent.
Choose ZDM-8 unless you have more than 8 cores.

Connecting IE3D Server and Agent

Figure -2. Configure Distributed Agent License

2. Enter the number of licenses required and click OK.

The number of licenses limits the number of agents used by the server. For example; if
the requested licenses is 4, the server can connect to a maximum of 4 agents.
3. In the IE3D Distributed Service screen, the Total licenses equals the number of
requested licenses. The Stop button is active, indicating the server is started ().

Figure -3. IE3D Distributed Service Window

For an agent to connect to the server you need the server’s name or IP address and Port
number. The IE3D Distributed Service screen provides the servers name (screen
heading) and port number. To obtain the servers IP address, use the following:
a. Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
b. On the command line enter systeminfo.

Windows
On the agent, double-click
C:\MentorGraphics\15.0IE3D\SDD_HOME\IE3D\agent\zdm.exe.

Linux
On the agent, double-click

Checking the server’s IE3D Distributed Service screen shows one agent connected and
the licenses remaining is decremented by 1 (Figure -6). Additional agents can connect to
the server as defined by the number in the Remaining Licenses field. Each agent
requires a license.
For distributed simulations, refer to the IE3D User’s Manual.
