Status of Solar Energy Development in Virginia

This document summarizes the status of solar energy development in Virginia as of November 2016. It finds that there were over 3,400 photovoltaic installations statewide totaling 27.3 megawatts of net metered capacity. Several large utility-scale solar projects totaling 354 megawatts were either under construction or complete. Electric cooperatives and municipalities were also pursuing solar projects. Many companies had received permits or were seeking permits for "small" renewable energy projects under 100 megawatts through the state's Permit by Rule process.
