Training Title: “Campus Journalism New Categories/Events”

According to its statement of policy, Republic Act No. 7079, popularly known as
the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, was passed on July 5, 1991, with the stated
goals of presumably defending and protecting press freedom on campuses as well
as encouraging the development and growth of campus journalism. This aims to
support the growth and development of college journalism as a means of
enhancing moral principles, fostering critical and imaginative thinking, and
fostering the moral development and personal discipline of Filipino youth.

Campus Journalism is an activity where students can advance their journalistic

abilities and learn how to be a responsible journalist who wants to spread reports
of current events.

NARRATIVE REPORT
Campus journalism refers to the practice of reporting, writing, editing,
and publishing news and other types of media on a school or university
campus. It is a form of student journalism that provides a platform for
students to express their ideas, opinions, and perspectives on campus
issues, events, and activities.
Campus journalism covers a wide range of topics, including school
news, sports, features, editorial commentary, and investigative
reporting. The goal of the campus journalism is to inform, educate, and
engage students, faculty, staff, and the wider community on campus
issues and concerns.
Campus journalism plays an important role in the academic and social
development of students, as well as in promoting democratic values and
fostering a culture of transparency and accountability in the academic
community.
.
April 17, 2023 – Alexander B. Anonas
He was assigned to discussed the “Search for Campus Journalism
Project.
He said that this will be conducted by the school administrator in
cooperation with the English Coordinator to recognize and appreciate
the excellent works of campus journalist in the school. He emphasized
that the various categories of the said search were news writing, feature
writing, sports writing, editorial writing, photojournalism, and
broadcasting. The entries were then evaluated by the judges. Aside from
the recognition and prizes, the search for the outstanding campus
journalism project had several benefits for the school. First, it provided
a platform for students to showcase their talents and skills in campus

journalism. Second, it helped develop students’ critical thinking,

research, and writing skills. Third, it encouraged healthy competition and
camaraderie among the student body.
The search for outstanding campus journalism served as a motivation
for students to engage in campus journalism and develop their talents
and skills in various media platforms.
April 17, 2023 – Ronilo D. Destajo
He was assigned to discussed “Science Discovery”.
Campus journalism can play an important role in disseminating
information about science discoveries to the wider community. Campus
journalism can cover science discoveries such as: reporting on scientific
research conducted on campus; covering science-related events on
campus; highlighting science-related student projects; analyzing
science policy and its impact on campus; and explaining complex
scientific concepts in accessible language.
As overall, campus journalism can play an important role in
communicating science discoveries to the wider community, making
science more accessible and promoting scientific literacy.
NARRATIVE REPORT
April 18, 2023 – Junela D. Alob
.
She was assigned to discussed about “Research in Campus
Journalism”.
Research is an important aspect of campus journalism as it allows for
the gathering of accurate and reliable information that can be used in
news articles, features, and other forms of journalism. Campus
journalism can cover a wide range of topics such as current events,
academic issues, student life, sports, and campus culture.
Research is the process of discovering new knowledge. This knowledge
can be either the development of new concepts or the advancement of
existing knowledge and theories, leading to new understanding that was
not previously known (discoverphds.com,2020).
In doing research there are processes to be followed: (1) observation,
(2) questions, (3) hypothesis, (4) experiment, (5) conclusion, and (6)
result. In doing this research, there were gaps on it. Why do research
gap matters? It matters because it provides specific focus to a study. It
identifies variable that give flesh to that gap in knowledge and/or
practice. Leads to formulating the research question. Helps see what
makes your research different from previous works. Solves problems in
old and possibly new ways.
To conduct research in campus journalism, the questions should be
clear, focused, concise, complex, and arguable question around which
you center your research. You ask an issue that you can genuinely
curious about. Research question help writers focus their research by
providing a path through the research and writing process.
NARRATIVE REPORT
April 18, 2023 – Olexer C. Dela Cruz
He was assigned to discussed about “Online Publication”.
Alternative media are media which provide alternative information to
mainstream media in a given context, whether the mainstream media
are commercial, publicly supported, or government-owned. Alternative
media differ from mainstream media along one or more of the following
dimensions: their content, aesthetic, modes of production, modes of
distribution, and audience relations. Alternative media often aim to
challenge existing powers, to represent marginalized groups, and foster
horizontal linkages among communities of interest.
The online publishing is an example of Alternative Media where the
process is not much different from the traditional paper-based publishing
process except that the online publishing does not need any offset
printing press to print out the products and secondly it does not need the
distribution of a physical product like paper book or newspaper.
Social media is harmful if it is not used responsibly. There is best time
to post on social media. Like in Facebook the best to post is between 1-
4 pm. The best days were Thursday to Sunday and worst day is
Tuesday. In twitter the best time to post on is between 12 – 1pm. The
best days were Monday to Friday and the worst days are Saturday and
Sunday. For Instagram the best to post on is between 11am – 1pm and
7pm-9pm. The best days were Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and
the worst days is Sunday.
Important reminder in social media is that “People ‘remember 80 percent
of what they see and do, 10 percent of what they hear, and 20 percent
of what they read’. (Lester, 2002)”
NARRATIVE REPORT
April 19, 2023 – Rey Y. Obenieta
He was assigned to discussed about “Mobile Journalism (MoJo)”.
Mobile Journalism is a new workflow for media storytelling were reporters
are trained and equipped for being fully mobile and fully autonomous. A
mobile journalist or MoJo is a freelance or staff reporter that normally uses
portable devices such as smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, or laptops
for gathering, shooting, live broadcasting, editing or sharing news. News
can be sent to the newsroom or can be shared directly on social media by
the MoJo.
Mobile Journalism is about empowering the individual storyteller to use
whatever consumer technology they have available to them to make the
best possible visual story that they can. Mobile Journalism definition can
be extended to other mobile devices beyond smartphones, like DSLR,
cameras, laptops, GoPros, etc.
It is important to remember, amidst all of the technology advancements and
their implications, that mobile journalism is still journalism. While
technology changes may change the way news is reported, the basic
foundations and rules of journalism still apply.
April 19, 2023 – Jean V. Logarta
She was assigned to discussed about “Investigative Reporting”
Investigative reporting is a type of journalism that involves in-depth and
thorough research and analysis of a particular issue, often involving
government or corporate wrongdoing, public policy, or social issues.
Investigative reporters typically use a variety of sources and methods to
uncover and verify information, such as public records, interviews, and data
analysis.
NARRATIVE REPORT
The purpose of investigative reporting is to expose hidden or unknown
facts and bring important issues to the public’s attention, often holding
those in power accountable for their actions. This type of reporting can take
many forms, including long-form articles, documentaries, and books. It
often requires a significant amount of item, resources, and dedication to
uncover information that may be hidden or difficult to access.
Investigative Journalism involves in-depth, long-term research & reporting,
documentary research and use of public and private records, following the
paper trail. It requires intensive interview, Crime-solving tools and methods
(undercover reporting, hidden cameras, surveillance). Revealing
information others want to keep secret or information not known to the
public.
Investigative reporting should be: determined, patient, careful and fair.
There
. were key features of investigative reporting. These are:
 Investigative reports often take a longer time to research.
 They reveal new information, not just the results of someone else’s
investigation.
• They are based largely on documents and extensive interviews.
April 20, 2023 – Gelli Rae P. Ortega
She was assigned to discussed about “Creative Infomercials”
Creative Infomercials refer to a form of advertising that uses creative and
innovative approaches to promote a product, service, or event in the
context of a campus journalism organization.
NARRATIVE REPORT
In campus journalism, infomercials are often used to promote events, such
as a school fair, a fundraising activity, or a club recruitment drive. Creative
infomercials are design to capture the attention of the audience and convey
the message in an interesting and engaging way.
Some examples of creative infomercials in campus journalism include short
videos, social media posts, posters, flyers, and other forms of multimedia
content that are designed to grab the attention of the audience and convey
information in a clear and concise manner.
The goal of creative infomercials in campus journalism is to promote
awareness of a particular product, service, or event, and to encourage
participation from the campus community. By using innovative and creative
approaches, campus journalism organizations can create a buzz around
their activities and attract more attention from their target audience.
April 20, 2023 – Ma. Jane D. Ramirez
I was assigned to discussed about “Development of Instructional Materials
in Campus Journalism”.
The development of instructional materials in campus journalism refers to
the process of creating educational resources that can be used to trach
and train students in the skills and techniques of journalism.
Instructional materials are the content or information conveyed within a
course. These include the lectures, readings, textbooks, multimedia
components, and other resources in a course. These materials can be
NARRATIVE REPORT
.
used in both face-to-face and online classrooms; however, some must be
modified or redesigned to be effective for the online environment. The best
instructional materials are aligned with all other elements in the course,
including the learning objectives, assessments, and activities.
Instructional materials provide the core information that students will
experience, learn, and apply during a course. They hold the power to either
engage or demotivate students. This is especially true for online courses,
which rely on a thoughtful and complete collection of instructional materials
that students will access, explore, absorb, and reference as they proceed
in a course.
Therefore, such materials must be carefully planned, selected, organized,
refined, and used in a course for the maximum effect. The planning and
selection of instructional materials should take into consideration both the
breadth and depth of content so that student learning is optimized.
The development of instructional materials in campus journalism is
important because it helps to ensure that students receive a
comprehensive and well-rounded education in the field of journalism. It
provides students with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in
the field and helps to promote high standards of professionalism and
ethics.
In addition to helping students learn skills and techniques of journalism,
instructional materials can also be used to train and mentor new journalism
teachers and advisers, helping to ensure that the next generation of
journalists and educators have the resources they need to succeed.
NARRATIVE REPORT

She was assigned to discussed about “Advocacy Journalism”.
The term advocacy journalism describes the use of journalism techniques
to promote a specific political or social cause. Advocacy journalism is a
genre of journalism that (unlike simple propaganda) is fact-based, but
supports a specific point of view on an issue.
Advocacy journalists might be expected to focus on stories dealing with
corporate business practices, government policies, political corruption, and
social issues.
