Exam Tips - Part 1
1. Fully Meets is a special category that is rarely used
For a result to get a Fully Meets rating, the query & user need must be specific, clear, and unambiguous. The first page the user lands on must satisfy the user's needs. They will not have to click on any further links to get to the page that they want. Example: A query [amazon website] with the result www.amazon.com
2. A broad query can never receive a Fully Meets rating
For the query [Manhattan Chinese food], there are many possible user intents. This makes it a broad query. A broad query can never be rated as Fully Meets. The user could be looking for the names of local Chinese restaurants in Manhattan, contact details of Chinese restaurants or information about Chinese food in general. If the query is for Chinese restaurants in a specific location and the result shows only one local Chinese restaurant, most or all users will not be satisfied with this therefore the result is never Fully Meets.
3. Low/Lowest Page Quality Rating
Page Quality is rated Low or Lowest if there are problems with functionality or errors displaying content. These are examples where Low/Lowest are not always used: ● Pages that do not load ● Pages that open as something other than a webpage, a PDF for example ● Pages where the page location does not match the rating location. For example an English (CA) page showing for a task that we are rating in English (US)
4. Some queries will have an explicit location
Some people will add a specific location to their query. For example, in the query [New York hotels] the explicit location is ‘New York’. Most users will not be happy with search results showing hotels in any other location. The explicit location is found inside the query and it makes the query easier to understand and interpret.
5. User location vs Result location
To determine whether a business is too far based on the query and user location you should always consider the type of business, the user location, your judgment and the user intent.
6. Determining the Needs Met rating in a Result Block
For a Result Block you should always evaluate the content inside the block to determine the Needs Met rating. In some cases you will also need to evaluate the landing page. 7. Use the examples in the Guidelines The Guidelines provide you with the basics of Rating. You will use them once you pass the exam and become a rater. For now, they are a great tool to help you pass the exam. They are full of helpful examples that are similar to the questions that appear in the exam. The examples explain the reasons behind why certain answers are correct.
8. Read the question carefully multiple times
Read the question carefully to understand what is being asked. The wording of the questions can be tricky and require your full attention. Look in the guidelines to find the answer and then select True or False. Before submitting your answer read the question again to ensure that you have answered what is actually being asked
